  • 4 litres isn't so good...

toyota prius has 3.5 and is bigger...

but still nice car dude .-)

  • @MyMMC at the moment when fabrication started on this microcarn there were no such cars as Prius. Sadly the Secma didn't develop with a more engine. If they had changed the engine it would have been even better at this moment.

  • a good idea maybe is if you challenge top gear send it to them not youtube anyhow didnt they build a car and drive it through oxford hmm im sure they did so i guess they passed the test

  • wat is die witte voor merk?

  • @whatsthis1888 Secma Fun Xtr'm 500. Kijk maar naar mijn andere filmpjes. Daar zie je deze microcar in actie.

  • dude learn how to speak english.

  • @voncaberte77: sorry guy, English is my third language. Dutch is the first, French the second. German is fourth (i can read it, but speaking is really hard), from this summer on I take courses Polish. So ...forgive me if I think twice before saying anything. I know for every word at least a few variants. :D

  • @nestofdragons pwned XD

  • @24jeffgordan88JRfan what does "pwned" mean ? ? ? ? ?

  • @nestofdragons it measn he put u in ur place or said something mean XD

  • aluminium can also be epoxied, which I suspect is even stronger...

you're right about microcars y'know. I'm wondering why nobody has made a luxury one, like comfy...

kitcar is a silly idea, just sell them assembled TBH, that's what people can buy into and drive

At the end of the day, low weight & go-kart handling are the coolest properties of a car, and smaller is cheaper all round.

  • names of songs please.

  • rivet construction would be easy for most people to do themselves but even making a prefab tube frame would be an option for keeping price down. things have to be mass produced to keep prices low and there arent enough willing to drop their gas guzzler and invest in microcar companies.

my favorite is the Velorex made in czech republic 50 years ago. its simple, effective, and economic. we just need someone to produce frames for cheap. but you cant even get golf carts for less than $4k now...sad=(

  • so did top gear find about the challenge yet??

  • I don't know. Maybe they heard about it, but thought that it was too much less gear in stead of top gear. Or ...maybe they don't want to do something this organised. Remember how their radioday went! No preparation at all and ...total disaster! But ...funny tele to watch. Haha.

Well, I have put my hopes on the Automotive X-Prize and hope that something usefull will come out of it. But ...also available for the man of the street ? ? ? Or again another toy for the rich? :(

  • aw.. that's too bad caz it seems like a fun challenge to watch lol

yeah i agree radio day was total disaster.. but too funny to watch at same time ^^

maybe u should contact them directly

well hopefully one day they'll take ur challenge

    good luck!

  • hmm ...A young guy from the Nederlands ...amusing himself with making prank phones to the police (just go see his videos, It is in Dutch). So ... not really somebody to take seriously.

Ah, the ladies here never tell me that my voice is iritating. They even love it and for me ...that is enough.

As for appriciation ...the feeling is mutual, kid.

Have a nice beginning of school.

  • It seems that you just want the designs to be sent to you so you can make the car for yourself. Just my opinion.

  • Haha ... I would if I liked the result. But ... I don't just do this for myself. More for all who want to travel at a lower cost.

  • so to sum it all up, your wanting them to build a kit car.

    they done that ages ago.

  • ive always that a small unibody car would be a good idea. the cost would be lower

  • Unibody car. yeah ... that will work. It proves to work on the Secma Fun Xtr'm 500. The car has just a single body-part. Oups! I am lying. I forgot the front lid and the rear lid. Ok ...three parts! ;)

  • what car is that

  • The microcar in the beginning is a Secma Fun 500 Xtr'm. A french product. The trike is a own design, but ...I shelved the project.

  • You do get that Top Gear is a pure entertinment show, it has little to do with cars and extrememly little to do with motocycles and custom works. If many mpgs was a concern, they'd feature trains, buses and boats.

  • I thought that Topgear was about action, challenges. Well ...I am sure this could get as interesting as the race between two Caterhams. Stig riding one, them building one. Was fun. Well ... this can be too. Can be a sort of weekly three-minutes. Look how far some teams are and finally testing them. If possible ... not by their grandmothers. ;)

  • It's a good initiative, but it directly contradicts the spirit of the Top Gear presenters. Maybe, a race between a team which has built a custom vehicle could challenge a tall bit of douche in a gas guzzling supercar somehow? It's scripted to a high extent so the handicap would have to allow for the prototype to win, par example; for every gallon the prototype use up, the super car gets 10, sounds fair?

  • Haha ...you are quite original in your challenge. Sounds great to me and would be fun for those who just like powercars and so. Setting the coefficients right to still have a real challenge between both cars will be hard to do, but ...possible. I guess the Top Gear team has enough experience to get it right.

  • I have a Honda Civic 1.5 ls 115 Hp and i have done 5.5/100km

And is a 4 door very much confortable car

  • I know that car. Like it too. But I am convinced that using single person transport in a aerodynamic lightweight vehicle can be much much much more efficient. Haha ...effiecient ...a word my boss always uses. Haha.

  • SEAT IBIZA TDI does 4/100 km

    LOllll

    lollllllllll

  • I know that recent cars have less and less mpg. But ...I am still sure that it can be less by making such a small microcar using a more modern engine that the one in the Secma.

  • Hello friend I am from portugal to get the English translator had to go.

    and this new car market?

I have the letter motor that can be lead here in portugal the" fun extrem ", maybe one day I am to buy a entressado

  • If I understand you right ... you want to know if this car can be found as a productioncar. Yes, it is. It is a small production. But ...you can buy them.

  • Good god, all of those vehicles are hideous looking, I think you may need to re think who will want to drive them, I think the Secma is a very nice looking vehicle, the F16 is very nice indeed, I understand the feeling for economy but surely this is coming at a price of looks, in my opinion, people would rather buy a Citroen or Peugeot, cheap insurance, cheap tax, fuel economy fantastic, price much cheaper than a kit to build and then take to pass the new IVA approval scheme.

  • I can follow your thoughts. Ok, tastes are better not discussed. All has his own. But ...currently the cars are having the same economy as this one. But I am sure that a redesign of similar car can get it even more down. Weight is good here in the Secma, but airflow is baaaaaaaad! A bit more aerodynamics could do wonders.

  • i have been welding for 8 years and fabricating tube chassis for 3, i would never go with rivets for a frame over welds. if welding is a problem then get someone to do it for you.

i could give you heaps of reasons why weld are better but don't have the text space LOL.

but don't let me discorage anyone from trying, nothing makes me work harder as a fabricator to achive something than some one telling me "that won't work"

  • Haha, i know how you feel. A challenge when said "it is not possible". Ok, take the challenge and create something that is light, easy to make and economical in use. Practical? Euh ...does not need to have a large trunk. Just enough to get to work. Do you take the challenge? ? ? ?

  • here is the biggest microcar colection /watch?v=zRRxEwqPHGQ

  • There are already real cars that do over 65mpg, have 4 seats, a boot and are many times safer than microcars.

The problem is that alot of the weight in cars is there to make them safe for the occupants and for pedestrians. Would you want to hit a range rover in a microcar ???

If people regularly have more than 2 people in their car you would need to provide fuel economy greater than 120mpg to justify having 2 on the road and that would add to the congestion problem.

  • I are right at some point. I don't want to get hit by a range rover. That is why I drive defensively. It is all about being aware that you are weaker that the rest. You need to keep the rest in you sight. Motorcycles have the same "problem". I am sure that a rivetted alu plate frame will reduce the weight even so that a somewhat streamlined vehicle will get about 100mpg. And ...it might still be a "cheap" car to build yourself using (maybe slightly altered) existing parts.

  • i think you missed the point i was trying to make. Not indivdual criterea, but the skill level required to build a complete and above all safe requires some one with above average mechanical skill, and thus would be able to weld, there fore making your "plates" null and void. I could go on about the actual strength of rivits over welds but i digress... I think i'll build my own atom.

  • So if they can't weld, can they assemble and bleed brakes properly? Are you assuming that every one has a snap on digital torq wrench in their kitchen drawers? An all these people have the uncanny understanding of tracking and camber? I understand your drive for better fuel economy and comfort vs price. Go with that. In the mean time I'll just sit back and watch the top gear ariel atom vid again.

  • Camber and so are things that just need to be adjusted according to plans. Bleeding brakes is something that many non-welders also can do. I am sure that who ever start such a project will be rather handy. Somebody with two left hands will not start such a project.

  • not happy with the two left hands bit i happen to be left handed like many other people

  • Its a curious angle you're comming from. Read the responces and everybody has a valid point. Remember though.. if you're asking the general population who has no knowledge of welding to assemble a car with nothing but a rivit gun.. Would you realy want to share the roads with these people? Most mechanics (reasonable and upwards) can ALL weld. These are the people who i trust to build vehicles that will not malfunction and kill me as an innocent road user.

  • I have no problem sharing the road with such vehicles.

Welding is a thing that many think they can do, but the welds are not properly done. i would hate to see a car fall apart in front of me on a highway.

  • How about a four-passenger car that uses 2l/100 KM (160MpG) fuel and costs less than 15,000 euros? And that will be in production next year/ Like the Loremo ... loremodotcom

  • i wish u success.

  • stop wasting time, get a propper job or work harder and stop whining

  • Haha, "stop wasting time". Hmm ... I am trying to create something here. Want to give the world something usefull. Sounds better than nagging about things you don't like. "Get a proper job". Euh ... am in top 20 of firm with 140 employees. So ... doing good. "Stop whining." Whahaaaaa. Who is whining? Not me! Haha.

Ok, I may not share the same idea as you have. I am truely sorry. But ... I try to be positive and have a life full of joy. Euh ... I guess that beats a life full of negativisme.

  • Are you serious? things added by the goverment? you mean like, bumpers, airbag, and headlights?

People will NEVER use garbage like your selling, why should people suffer and be uncomfortable to travel, people want to travel and be comfortable, and take other people. Movements like this will never, ever catch on.

An Enzo is one the most aerodynamic cars and light weight cars on the road anywhere in the world, and look at its fuel useage.

  • Hmmm...an Enzo ...not really a car for the man of the street. I know that such a vehicle as I propose can be comfortable. Ok, not the same way as a Enzo, but my former Mazda 121 was not so comfy either.

You mentioned weight. Great! Reducing weight is really what should happen and ...that is why I return to the basics.

You predict that ideas like mine never will catch on.Hmmm...have you seen how popular the velomobiles are getting? And in those are ...pedals like bikes! Some really want basics.

  • Really? clearly you have no idea about people, nor the world we live in, I see MAYBE 1 smartcar every month, and the hybrids are nothing but status symbols for the upper middle class who want to make other people THINK they care. People will never go with this because people want to feel good, and they have a basic need to show off. At its core its a genetic trait to lure the opposite sex...just like every other creature on the planet. More people have commited cult suicide then gone along withu

  • Haha. This is getting kind of funny. I sure can see you are from a land filled with Jeeps, pick-up trucks and so. I admid ...I have a Dodge myself and a 1500cc chopper besides my microcar. I know where you are talking about. But ...some people want to be creative and want to make their own things. Call them crazy if you like. I can them Shapers, Makers and most are friends. We are with more than you think. OK, not 50% of the population, but ...enough to make the introduction to my idea.

  • Enough of a the population? are you kidding? hybrids are the smallest niche market in the world, at a time that is most likely there peak due to media trends - not needs, and yet its still only about 4% of road going traffic. Even at 4% that number disgusts me. My Hemi powered Jeep burns what those hybrids save, but I can turn the key and go through any weather, at any time, and never worry, all while being very comfortable. People that want basics won't even go without A/C

  • enigma, this is my last reply. Yep, it is very clear to me. You are from the US. All is big there. Especially the cars. But ...changes are coming. I am not sure that those monster cars still will be available within a decade. Treasure the one you have now. Might be ...it will be your last.

  • LOL, change is not coming, infact every day people are figuring out just how much back sliding were doing. Thsoe suv's will be around for another 30-50 years, and after that, instead of the rich buying sports cars they'll buy SUV's, its the need, and americans car needs developed in very different ways for different reasons, much of america was built around the car and people don't live huddled in a city. Its open, and theres space. I believe in 10-15 years, with infrastructure, hydrogen maybe.

  • I will sound very un-socialistic I think it's wrong to give a hope to poor people that they can afford to use cars. I think those companys like Tata and other cheap indian or chinese shit makers should be punished.

Imagine what will happen when those cheap pollutants will hit the streets in large ammounts? Traffic? Pollution?

  • Hmmm ...you are afraid that there will be more pollution. Euh ...I think that the pollution depends on the amount of fuel burned too. If the car used less fuel, it gives less pollution. Right? Ok, the proposal I have can lead towards such a less-consumming car.

  • Bikes are not dangerous. Its the cars you have to drive with that makes it dangerous.

  • I guess I didn't say bikes were dangerous. I said you get tired and wet.

  • Using a means to locate the panels exactly before bonding them?

Absolutely. This could be done by pins or rivets, as you say. Or by capture devices that are stamped into the metal itself. Every effort to make assembly foolproof should be made, because for many this will be their first building project.

I don't know how "forgiving" the adhesives are, but for this job they might be reformulated. Perhaps a longer time to set rock solid would be better, or one that sets only with a heat gun?

  • Your idea is a good one, but I feel that you overlook a technology that would make amateur building of this type of car a possibility. I am talking about construction adhesives, like those used by car manufacturers and by body repair shops.

Joins made by these adhesives have been proven to be as strong as welds, and body parts that are built up using them are only limited in strength by the gauge of the metal panels used.

This technology would seem to be a great breakthrough for homebuilders.

  • Hey, lets keep this in mind.

I am still thinking that using pins (like rivets) makes the parts be placed like they should be. Less chance they are not good in line. Do you understand?

  • it would be more practical for a fiberglass body instead of riviting panels. to put it together you just bolt it to the frame.tons of rivets are needed for water tight fits.with sealant or caulk.and those tons of rivots need to be fastened to alot of framework

  • um..... i will stick with a v8, gas is cheap right? ;)

  • Euh ... V8. Euh ... ok, you seem to like power. i sure hope you have a powerfull bank-account too. ;^)

  • i beg to differ that motorcycles are dangerous . for one most of motorcycle accidents are caused by idiots in cars. also bikes are as safe as the person driving the same as cars

  • Ok, I think the same. I have a 250cc Yamaha scooter. I had more fear from the cars around me than my own driving. I knew that I would reduce speed if I felt unsafe. Euh ... I cannot tell that for a lot of car-users. :(

  • I am sorry but this is just a joke! and also to say that he chalenges TOP GEAR is more of a joke and more!!!!!! ah do something else like looking into hybrid cars or alternative motors for cars for they will never go. I do agree that we need more beneficial motors and invirument freindly but this stuff that is on the vid we can do with out as we are anyhows!

  • Well, it all started as a joke. The kind of ... "what would happen if ...?" . Well, I took the guts to try it anyway. Even knowing that the odds are all against me. But ... I had to try it. Well, The current automotive X-price will be a better way to get a good solution, but I had wanted to try it another way. Well, I haven't heard from Topgear. They probably had a good laugh with it all, but ... I had fun making the video. Still working on a similar project ... for real.

  • ...my point is that if you want cheap transport there isn't much point challenging a TV Program, or encouraging people in their sheds. The challenge needs to be leveled at manufacturers as they are the only one who can produce enough of them to keep costs low.

What is the cheapest hatcback? Take out a couple of seats/doors, have thinner tyres, lose some weight/features. Then de-rate components (engine/suspension) because it's smaller & lighter. Then you have a simple car for £3000, brand new!

  • Nice idea, but the solution isn't a kit car.

If a company like Suzuki decided to make a basic 2 seat sports car it would be considerably cheaper than the cheapest hatchbacks available, thanks to the reduced weight/materials. Unlike the Secma which is 2.5 times the price of some brand new 4 or 5 seat cars.

Mass production is the answer and I cant believe with all the complaining over the price of fuel and about the environment that it hasn't happened yet.

  • Ok, I totally agree. But ... mass production of a car that is rather unconventional is a GREAT risk for a firm. Which firm is willing to take such a risk????

I am sure that whoever does it will get the reputation as a "improver" for life. Could be a good thing for a reputation of a firm.

  • Have you seen the Tango EV? Motorbike size car with tandem seating. There is a 25 minute presentation on youtube.

The theory is there is a market for literally millions of these cars for people to use as commuter vehicles. Obviously not a primary vehicle, but as a households 2nd or 3rd car.

If it wasn't so rediculously fast (0-60mph in 4sec.), with completely over the top safety (NASCAR roll cage). Then you allow for the economy of scale and they could come cheap enough to fill this void.

  • I know the Tango. I like it a lot. But ... they cost a fortune. Not what I was looking for. I want to reduce the cost in general.

  • Its people like you that can help change the world. Great video.

  • If anyone crashes into you driving one of those cars then you're dead..

  • Hmmm...you are probably right. But ... like I said. To me it is more of a step forward compared to motorbikes. How good can you survive a collision when using a motorbike? I wonder.

  • Man I like yer thinkin , I ride a Bmw and wonder at the economey and realize it's like a parachute . A man in an envolope bike is capable of about 85 MPH with only legs for power , yet my 60 HP motorcycle can't go a heck of a lot faster . I think the secret is getting the drag down and this will require repackaging the occupants in a thinner manner , either like a motorcycle or staggered . Just use a nitrogen tank for a frame and run it on compressed air . I liked the show , thanks .

  • wow, a beer can on wheels! Honestly no one would take this on a road! It's so amazing what tiny little cars these people drive!

  • My other car is a Dodge Caliber. So I have small and large at the same time. But ... for fun I ride the Secma. For lower expense too.

  • It would take something with the idea of the volkswagen beatle! A small car that is attractive/reliable enough that the people will want it regardless of tradition. With the gas prices rising perhaps the people will feel squeezed enough to purchase a vehicle like this! Also for the luxary/sports car fans adaptions would be simple!

  • "This is made out of tubes", built by tubes, and driven by tubes.

There is no substitute for the 2cv!

  • Sorry, I do not agree. I like the 2CV A LOT. But ... with the current technology it is possible to build something that is more performant, safer and with better mpg. Only thing is ... it is not being built because most people want a BIG car. If they would have seen the market for a really small car, the 2CV will be no longer the king of the cheap cars.

  • You are the genius that this world deserves in the field of automotive vehicles! The only problem I see with this is many people now a days would be too terrifyed to purchase a smaller car due to the hordes of SUV's. Look up the T-Rex or Aerial Atom and than imagine them with a fuel efficent engine and perhaps lighter weight if possible. The natural beauty would attract the masses and possibly outweight the negative views seen from the people. This could all be done relatively cheap. Great idea!

  • Me genius??? Euh ... no. Having fear when you ride a microcar between SUVs? Why? I ride my microcar most of the time between large trucks. Never had a problem. Oeps. A lie. Once! A family car with a driver that not even look sideways before he manoeuvred. Just to proof you can always get hurt on the street. It is filled with crazy persons! Just hope it is not the one driving next to you. ;)

  • 2CV can do some damage. Last one I had, I re-engined with a GSA 1200cc (Originally 1015) twin turbo. (Long story, previous owner replaced the chassis with the wrong one, but just bolted the two-pot 602cc on it anyway) slipped on ice in '94, span round and went into a Volvo wagon. Killed the Volvo dead, I drove home like Roger Moore in For Your Eyes Only.

  • negative people and comments are everywhere.

    keep up the good work!!

  • Thanks for the support. I keep the spirit high and continue with my own project.

  • This movie was NOT funny, i was really bored!

  • I admit. My speaking is a bit slow and not really prepared. So ... the video has not the style of Top Gear. But ... the next ones will surely have more style. I am building myself a 2 wheeled-proposal. And I will report here from time to time. So ... keep following the topic.

  • i found a big problem... jeremy clarkson hates bikes so he wouldnt do it

  • Yes, I remember him sitting on top of a motorbike in part of Ariel Atom. ;) . Well, I am working a bit of the 2-wheeled thing myself. But ... the three-wheeler is still a good project. And if he HAS TO HAVE 4 wheels. Why not? Just keep it simple to make, cheap to produce, wind and rainprotection and ... high mpg. That is all! Well, all, euh ... I would be SUPER-pleased with this. ;)

  • Hey, Im from Australia and am building an enclosed pedal-electric quadricycle. The crazy thing is, Im making the space frame out of bamboo tubing! I wish I could collaborate with more like minded ppl...

  • I like the idea, but ... the material is questionable. It has been used to in the early days of aviation. But was abandoned because the quality of bamboo was not easy to check, if I recall it right.

  • what is the song at 4:30

  • "Bitter SWeet Symphony" of The Verve, I think to recall me. Don't shoot me if I am wrong. ;)

  • thks u r right

  • good ideas but not very safe cars. and i wouldn't want a 3 wheeler. not very good handling... Get a Diesel BMW or VW Jetta... 55 MPG plus safe and reliable. go with Diesel!

  • I would consider them as cars, but as motorbikes with a roof. Diesel? Euh ... why not? I don't care about powerplant, but ...I want something be created that is high mpg and dry and super easy to make.

  • Yep, it is awful made. But ... it is not the video that is important. It is the message and ... the challenge.

I will try to get the next videos better spoken and less boring. But remember ... I am not a professional in this stuff. Just amusing me.

  • ok is there even a funny point to this video! clarkson hammond and may prob found it funny cos of how awful it is!

  • If you don't mind me asking, whats the Horsepower and weight on that micro-car you have in the video? I bet you could make the car light enough, it'd be really fun to drive with significantly low power. I bet something like that with a sports bike motor would be a blast to drive!

  • The Secma is just under 400kg and has a engine which is limited at 21 HP. This car is very basic. So ... I guess to get it lighter you would have a tough job. But ... as a single seater (which needs a smaller engine), you might be able to do it. Secma has now a prototype of the Extr'm with a powerfull engine. Its topspeed is about 200 km/h and it handles on the track like a Porsche I have been told.

  • What types of micro cars do you have and what types of micro cars are available? Is there any available for purchase in the U.S? How much do they cost and do they require welds or rivets? Also, can you tell me the names of all the books and documents you have read on micro cars, kit cars, airplanes, etc?

These cars are very interesting and you might see a lot more of these in the U.S. soon due to high fuel costs, inefficient engines, green-house gases, and many want cheap cars, not costly.

  • I only have my Secma. It is more a kind of speedy enclosed light buggy than something you would consider as a 30 mph microcar.

Which are available in USA? Euh ... all I guess ... if you don't mind the shippingcosts. I have no clue which ones already have a USA dealer.

You also ask about welds or rivets. Remember that the Secmas are totally finished cars. It is not a kit.

I have followed a decade the world of kitcars. I have worked 2 months in a kitcar firm in UK just to see how they work.

  • You ask about my books on cars, airplanes and so. Euh ... I have a nice collection of those (mostly airplanes). Some very technical (including how to design them), others just having nice pictures.

Microcars being good for USA? Sure! But you need to see your own laws to see if you can get it regulated. I have heard laws are different from state to state.

Maybe the classic fuel engined microcars are not the future, but ... they would be a very good first step. Later to change into electro.

  • I really believe the ecomobile, mono tracer could be redesigned into a world class vehicle.reducing weight, better ergonomics[door or doors]composites add to the cost and are they really neeeded, better handling with retracts down, with auto control. A+performance + high MPG+comfort+fun winner

  • THe ecomobile. Not unknown to me. Sadly ... the ecomobile demands a complete training to ride it. Even the Belgian importer who uses it daily made several slides in it. I would prefer something with at least three wheels.

  • They look more like huge ugly rollerskates if you ask me. I would kill myself before letting anyone see me in one of those. That is unless i get killed by driving into an old lady on a bike.

Your proposal is pretty pointless if you ask me. It´s like making a video for Tom hanks, chances of him watching it is very slim, chances of him replying are even slimmer.

Write a letter directly to BBC instead.

  • You better compare them with motorbikes, because you have bikeplates. To my opinion it is safer than a motorbike.

Hmmm ... contact Top Gear directly ... maybe. But I think it is too pushy.

  • Nevenmind England.... dare to inspire the world.....

  • WOW COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thay are a dit price have you checked out the site yet.

    Electric Car Hub Motor

    V: 48V-96V

    P: 1500W-4000W

    Rpm: 350-850

    Efficiency: >85%

    the rim is 10'' .

    With disc brake

    A cut & pa

  • If you want to look at a few modern microcars, go search for the Corbin Raven and the Myers Moters NMG. Both are really goodlooking. But the price is ... HIGH.

The Moonbeam is a nice example for a low-budget microcar. But ... it lacks a bit of performance for my taste. The Moonbeam is more for local traffic. Not highways. Ok, its styling is also a bit ... euh ... below normal standards. I hope to see this project end in something with more ... karma.

  • Have you considered pre welding the joints & telescopically connecting the parts? How about a electric hub motor with 2 45 volt alternators

  • Hey, can you guide me towards more info about this technique. I am curious because I don't know it or not under that name.

Electrical engines ... hmmm ... most people don't trust them yet. I guess it would not be ideal to become a wide-spread vehicle. I stay a bit longer with the usual engines. Small engines.

  • Yongkang Success Permanent Magnetic Motor Manufactory make the hub motor. Sorry its a 42 volt alternator made by Bosch. By telescopically I mean tubing inside tubing

  • Aha ... now I understand the telescopic-stuff. Hmmm, not a bad idea. My mind is already making ideas and ideas in that direction.

  • Sorry to say this but im sure that most people who "watch" this video just close it after realising it has nothing to do with top gear. In fact only 8 people have rated it.

  • Maybe true. I cannot see that from the viewcount, but ... what if with this video it becomes a true part of Top Gear ? ? ? ? I know I know I have not the style like Mr. Clarkson. But I was a bit nervous on that first video. Normally I don't talk like a retarted slow-motion mule. Just watch the second video to see me in more real style.

  • I see your point, why not just make cheap featureless cars built just to fill the pupose of going from point A to point B?

  • I am really happily surprised that a teenager from the USA (country with very LARGE vehicles) also sees the need for these tiny cars.

  • your vid's only popular because of 'top gear' in. infact i hope they don't see this

why don't you come up with the plans?

  • Might be your are right about that popularity. But ... I cannot help you to like my project. Seems like you are more into muscles-cars. That is ok, but not my style.

Even if I come up with own plans it would not help the world. I have not the power to convince. Top Gear has that power.

  • I don't want Top Gear to convince others to believe in microcars. No ... just to convince others to join this project to get these two vehicles available for those who need or want it. Anyway ... if they don't take the challenge I will try myself to get it done. But I know already where it will end. In a one-off and a place in some small history book. Thats all. And it could be ... much much more.

  • with iran (iraq?) and their new 2500 dollar car, i think someone in his garage could create a 3 wheel kit car much the same way, utilizing a motorcycle engine and such.

  • no, if it was your project, it'd be great. but you're requesting someone else do it.

if you come up with the plans, and come up with the design, and sell them/ give them / do with them what you want, then you changed the world.

as far as muscle cars? Sure, I like sports cars, italian, japanese, i like euro cars just as well. As far as mini cars, i'd love to have a 3 wheel little two seater to go around down, I'd love the T-Rexx really, but that's 50000..

  • The TRex is not really a small threewheeler. It is a very powerfull machine. Microcars have mostly less than 500 cc. But ... man ... what a looks that TRex has! NICE! By the way, there is a kitcar named G2 that is similar to the TRex.

I wish you all the luck with your muscle-cars. I hope you grant me the pleasure to ride a microcar threewheeler.

  • I just looked at the most viewed video list. It was placed in total on number 53. Man, this is the first video I ever made that is ever in that list. Yihaaaaaa! If you think that is not impressive, I can tell you that there were only 3 Top Gear related videos in front of mine. Waaaaaw!

  • I cannot believe it! Just passed one of the Top Gear videos. Only 2 Top Gear videos in front of mine.

  • hey meneer Vandekerckhove(Koen),

mischien kan je via doorstuurmails werken, om meer reacties en bekeken video's te hebben?

    groeten Michaël,

  • A reply in Dutch for a pupil of me. Michael, je bedoelt waarschijnlijk zo die brieven die je tien keer moet doorsturen of een of ander accident overkomt je. Euh ... niet echt mijn stijl. Ik wil niet dat andere accidenten hebben, want ... ik rij er ook, he. Die anderen moeten toch ergens tegen botsen he. De kans dat ze dan tegen mij vliegen wordt dan groter he. ;^)

  • 1100 views in a single day! WAAAAAAAW! Man, this is going really good. Will it keep rising? I sure hope so.

Please, please, let it be true.

  • good luck! how about an electric version?

  • Well, I like the idea of electrical microcars. But ... the public still has no confidence in pure electrical cars and that would make this project fail. A hybrid makes the whole construction heavier as you need two engines. More weight of engines means more weight of structure to hold it which leads to more power needed to get it rolling ...

  • If you use the hub motor the weight would be in the wheel, so construction only needs to hold the engine & alternators. No gearbox

  • Diron3, I am a bit familiar when hub placed electrical engines. I have seen them in velomobiles (enclosed trike recumbent bike). Looks pretty easy to install it in a 2 or 3 wheeler if having the proper battery and controller. Unless ... you refer to the hub placed gasoline engines. I have not really a lot of info about those. SOunds interesting though. But ... would it not be easier to simply use a existing maxi-scooter engine with CVT?

  • now hope that top-gear accepts the challenge!

    greets karel-marc

  • Hallo menneer Vandekerckhove(Koen)

    Hier Michaël van 3MT

Mooie video ,maar over wat gaat het juist buiten buitengewone mot's en aut's?

    groeten Michaël

  • A quick reply in dutch to this student of me.

  • You can build an inexpensive version of the Caterham, its called the Locost(check out TotalKitCars website). It already falls into your criteria as the panels can be pop riveted.

The new Tata car (videos on YouTube) comes close to your specifications, inexpensive, good mpg but not fast enough for some people.

  • Hey, thanks, I didn't know that. The main difference between the Locost and my project would be that the delivery box of this kitcar would be ... flat. Just plates. Easier to transport and lower in price to transport. Just CNC cut plates.

  • hallo meneer vandekerckhove(Koen)

Hier Michaël van 3MT allemaal eigen creatie?

over wat gaat deze video eigenlijk.

    groeten Michaël

  • A reply in dutch to this student of me. Yep, ik heb de video zelf gemaakt. Wees gerust ... niet echt Brad Pitt, he. En de video toont aan dat ... de lessen Engels wel handig zijn, he. ;^)

  • really!?

  • I truely am serious. I am not sure if they will react to this challenge. But ... somebody has to find a solution to the ever rising fuel costs for daily transports to work/school.

I think that this project might be it.
