Hmm, now that I'm looking at it - I should probably come back and beat this motherfucker, because when I played it I was about eight or nine years old and found it too difficult for some reason.
Ever notice how the 2nd-in-command types are often the main villain -- or if the #1 guy is the main villain, the #2 guy turns against them? Cases in point: Darth Vader, Number Two (from Austin Powers), and Matic.
The "evil adviser" is a pretty established trope (I wonder of TV Tropes has a page...) and used quite a bit. Part of the "reasoning" is that the person at the top has nowhere to go, but the guy below him has a motive and ambition.
Also, an extreme tangent, but as far as Vader goes, "betraying the master" is a Sith core principle. Just usually not in the way he did it.
@UsaSatsui Yeah, his motivation was the complete opposite. To the Sith, the apprentice becomes stronger than the master, then the master no longer deserves their position, so it isn't technically "betrayal" per se. As for not mentioning Kefka, I just picked a few examples. Oh, and let's not forget Jafar from 'Aladdin'. The villain in the ye olde 'Prince of Persia' was also named Jaffar (but with two 'f's).
Bionic Commando, Strider, and Low-G Man were really innovative for their era. Something I never liked about some of these games, though, is how your character's jump is too high and not far enough. This is also true for Faxanadu (another one of my faves regardless of the lame jumping). Flashback (Genesis, Sega CD, Amiga) was the opposite since it used rotoscoped animation. Jumping was realistic. I always had trouble with Strider's triangular jump when I was a kid.
@TheGreenPlague Cripes, Low G Man...Every so often, I get the idea to play through the game, then when I do, I'm suddenly reminded why it's not worth playing through.
It's now one of my goals in life to go to Egypt via phantom train. And if I get to run up the side of a pyramid while fighting people once I get there I'll just consider that a bonus.
they did i think. its called strider 2 on the psone. but i wish they made a new ps3 strider game. that would kick major ass as long as capcom didnt give it to some shitty rookie studio
Why does Ryuzukai have to be seriously into that "Strider thing" just because he wears a mask? Apparently you don't respect their Strider heritage. . .
I've heard of glitches in the game that let you pass through doors you don't have the key for...you can beat Australia very early this way, and skip most of the game.
You also got to love the music at these scenes. Especially the Capcom rendition of Egyptain music. When I first got the game, I was stuck at this level for months as well. But the music never got boring. LOL
Man... When I first got this game years ago, I was stuck at that jump for months.
I didn't have any kind of manual or a guide or anything for this game, and it wasn't until a few months later while trying to get up that damn wall, I discovered that I accidentally seemed to do a triangle double jump higher off the edge.
Then I spent, literally 6 hours trying to figure out again how I did that jump, before to clear that wall.
I mastered the triangle jump right away. I can do it almost 100% of the time and easily climb areas in China as well as receive the 3 energy capsules toward the top of Khazak. What got me stuck in Egypt for a while was not know how to slide and I failed to see WHERE I needed to slide. I play this (and 6 other NES games) once a year to beat them per tradition. Each year, I'll perfect something, while screwing up somewhere else for the first time. LOL
what i liked about this game back then, well now too, is how they treat every time you get a new password like an upcoming episode in a comic or a tv show.
Better in ways because they leave so much more to the imagination. Kids these days are creatively deficient I think due to everything being 'filled in' for them
I love this game, but when he runs up the pyramid is the only time his running pose doesn't look awkward haha.

@IggyHazard Low G Man is proof that "innovative" doesn't always mean "good".
Flashback is on my list of games to walkthrough. Somewhere near the middle.

Nobody wears masks anymore. They're so 1400s.

Well, it may not count as a mask, but Hiryu covers his face too.
