Hello.. Thank you for sharing your story on Deaf Smith since I am living in Texas... I heard about Deaf Smith, but not deep know what he did, until I listen your stories, it was very interesting... Thanks for sharing the pictures and where he was buried..
What do you have to say this? Smith died in Richmond, Texas at age 50 at the home of Randall Jones and is buried in the Episcopal Churchyard with a modest marker "Deaf Smith, The Texas Spy, Died Nov. 30, 1837." It is not under the street. Huh!
Although Generalissimo Santa Anna was not among the dead or captured that night, he was captured the following day on the 22nd, hiding in the tall grasses near Vince's bayou. A Company under Deaf Smith had destroyed Vince's bridge before the engagement and Santa Anna was trapped on the battlefield side of the bayou.
The struggle for independence was won at that moment. Although General Houston and his staff ordered the men to stop and take prisoners, they ignored his command and continued revenge driven slaughter until dark.
April 20,1836 --- Indeed the battle was fought the next day, about 3:30 in the afternoon. The Texian army surprised the resting Mexican army and routed them in approximately 18 minutes.
hey why don't you organize to get the mayor of richmond to close that intersection in honor of deaf smith on the day he blew up the bridge. i am sure the people could find a way to drive around the closed intersection just for a day in rememberance of deaf smith
