Eeek, who in Holy Greece is that gorgeously pale, toweringly tall, fine-legged, port-sipping Byronesque turtleneck God? Oh my, it's Stephen Fry. I'm only half way through my first cup of morning joe and I'm rather tempted to go back to bed ... bringing my laptop with me, of course. "Honey, it's over. Oh, don't cry. It's not you ... but it's not me, either. It's a vintage Stephen Fry".
I just noticed on IMDB that Penny Dwyer died in 2003 of "a long illness." It doesn't say anything else about it, and very little else about her. Very sad. :(
I'm in the process of reading 'The Fry Chronicles' and 'The Cellar Tapes' is listed as a huge turning point in the careers of these young people - the youngsters in this performance are signed to an agent because of it. Pretty thrilled I get to see this!
Just to back up Microburts comment. I find myself watching this ( and many other clips) because I'm halfway through 'The Fry Chronicles', it's a brilliant book and I highly recommend reading it and then coming back to view some clips.
I agree with the comments! These guys are and were great. I've been reading Stephen Fry's autobiography which sheds light on all this. They got an agent just from doing the Footlights stuff at the Edinburgh Fringe!
COMEDY HAS CHANGED SO MUCH. IT'S HARD TO FIND ANYTHING AS INTELLIGENT AS THIS TODAY. IN THE TRADITION OF MONTY PYTHON AND PETER COOK AND DUDLEY MOORE. AS WORDY AS THE TWO RONNIES BUT ALSO WITH ELEMENTS OF SLAPSTICK HARKING BACK TO THE VARIETY OR MUSIC HALL. NOWADAYS A COMIC STANDS UP AND CALLS THE AUDIENCE A BUNCH OF C**TS.
In the credits, Stephen merely looks like a caricature of himself :p. Hugh looks apologetic for finding himself in the camera's view, and Emma just looks unbelievably stunning!
Fry shows such ease and an impressive self-confidence, and he's only 24-25. Alhough the British public schools are outdated and sadistic, inculcating in an entire class of Britons a lack of compassion and a permanently confused and troubled sexuality, it certainly does produce young adults with tremendous competence and "sang-froid". It's easy to see how products of the system expect to be the "smartest people in the room", and assume they will always run whatever activity in which they engage
@moonmatter Not exactly. You see, people who go from day to day without poles shoved up their backsides can realise that that question mark is a shorter and more polite form of WHAT THE FUCK.
Oh, and you tell me that I look inept? You can't even bloody spell, so shut your trap m'dear, there's a love.
@LaSeuleEtoile I'm sure you know those people you pretentious cunt (that's a polite form of question mark). Shut your pie hole-your grammar is crap. Inept!
Hahahaha...a very nice parody of Chariots of Fire in the intro. And Stephen Fry smoking his pipe all innocent like was awfully sweet. They all look so young here! And this is the reason why I would love to go to Cambridge...
Stephen's character in this reminds me of my AP English teacher... he used to have us read the New Yorker and try to find a deeper literary meaning in the placement of the full-page vodka ads within the layout of the magazine.
Oh, thankyou. I'm not a native-speaker so I had no idea, I just try to catch the word, but sometimes I fail. Nice of you to say that, I want to improve my favourite-language...
how tall can one person be... this outfit makes Stephen's arms/legs even more freakishly long than usual lol
