Another tip is this: When doing your renegade rows, rather than turn your hips to one side, try to keep them parallel to the floor, and keep your shoulders squared to the floor. This will engage your core much better.
when you perform the snatches. instead of swinging the KB through your legs just put it in the rack position, then set it down on the floor and the second it makes contact, rip it from the floor. according to steve cotter snatches from the floor focuses on power development.
the scuad after the push up is with lordosis, this is definetly no good for your lower back.
some rotation movements have to less stability in your center/core. this workout is creative and brings a lot of fun. But under the aspect of good an healthy workout it fails !
Just experimenting, trying different things and running them. I then test it out in the mat / ring and see if there is any benefit. All in all physical strength / conditioning is great and kettlebells are excellent.
Ok functional does not mean specific to a sport that called specificity. Functional means compound movments that are more similar to real life situations there is a difference. What he is doing is solid funtional training. I wouldnt say its martial arts specific but it definatly is functional.
It's like overhead squatting for vertical jumping. Do overhead squats for 6 months, and even if your squat/deadlift/snatch/etc don't improve, you'll jump higher
Functional is everything that uses whole body to complete a movement, some football coaches say that, they do more sled work and stuff that imply whole body, and even if theri numbers in the weight room are lower that other team's, they win games. Kettlebells, sled work, sledgehammers truly deliver functional strength. Just watch fedor using sledgehammers and kettlebells and tell me he's not functional.
Ok, how is any of this "functional martial arts training"? The term "functional training" means training that is specific to an activity; training that increases your ability to FUNCTION in a particular sport.
How is running forward with a weighted vest functional for martial arts?
When in a fight are you going to run forward with a weighted vest on and grab a kettle bell? The push ups and deadlifts for arm and back strength I can understand, even though you're not using nearly enough weight to cause adaptive changes - the moves themselves I understand.
It looks like you just made up a weird routine and decided to call it functional MA training.
This sort of training is very advantageous if you are in a fight and it gets to grappling/wrestling range, of which you should know if you've ever been in a read fight where you've had to resort to this. Or let me guess, your 'style' doesn't allow it to get to that range!!
Functional training is about utilising whole body movements an increasing over all FUNCTIONAL strength.. It works very well for martial arts in my experience... Or it worked for me anyway..
You are not going to run for a kettlebell, but you might in an MMA fight charge the person to the ground explosively or in a street fight barge through a group of attackers.
Fair enough by your comments you have a level of knowledge / expertise I imagine. I look forward to seeing your videos showing us how it should be done (do you have plans to?). I dont mind showing what I do as its a hobby / passion and I am open to comments as it may help me learn. So thanks for that.
Why use words like "functional" and "power" when you are demonstrating anything but ? if your moves are powerful what words would you reserve for sprinters and Olympic lifters ?
That is some good shit!! hey man please dont delete this lol its gonna be a good training video for endurance and explosive strength. I can bench 140Kgs and am 79Kgs but hell i'm sure i will collapse after 40-50 seconds of wat u did:)

this is that muscle confusion type training where it stimulates your muscles in a way they are not use to.

trufkin1000 4 years ago
Its actually a weight lifters belt. But its strong enough to take the attachment as well as fit comfortably.
kismet108 4 years ago
our training styles are the same....yours being more advanced and functional based. what type of matarial arts do you train for?
trufkin1000 4 years ago
Train for southern mantis and mma.

The counterweight you're attached to lets you lean forward more and shifts the emphasis of the kettlebell lifts, seems like a good variation.
