  • See, Russell said that after you watch it the first time and you know all the details, but really the nice thing about Doctor Who is that there are a lot of episodes that you can watch over and over and over and still not fully understand, so you watch it for the second or even third or fourth time and there's still something you see that you didn't before. That's part of the reason it's so fun to watch.

  • I love that after so much commercial success, and at the height of so much publicity, Russel Davies still talks about his craft like a truly passionate artist, with real artistic integrity. That's refreshing.

  • Congrats to David on his wedding!!!

  • Whatever David's doing with his mouth around 15:19 is... hhnnnnggggg

  • David Tennant is hands down my favorite actor in existence!! but i have to tip my hat to Matt Smith because he will always be my Doctor. But on the other hand...Tennant was absolutely brilliant! So both are very loved in my heart! :)

  • David's giggle at 9:03 ASDGGJ

  • I really miss him as the Doctor. I hope I can get used to 11 before he has to go.

  • poor smith. he is a good doctor, but with david tennant on everyone's mind he'll have it hard to convince people...

  • Damn Russel and Phil for David calling himself "The Timelord Victorious"! Trust melters!

  • The difference between RTD and moffat are vast.

    RTD is king.

  • for all the people saying you rather see David not be in Hollywood.....YOU AINT AMERICAN!! him being in Hollywood is the only way i can see him! i love all the stuff he does but its feaking hard to watch! hopefully he will get a amazing role in a good Hollywood film!

  • @jesusmusiclover20 Hes too good of an actor to go to hollywood. I am an american but prefer BBC T.V.

  • I have Single Father and I absolutely love every moment of it!!! I agree with David and Russell about knowing about a film, really I don't want to know so I can be surprised and shocked by the movie or show. I hate it when the plot is given away!!! I loved every time I saw a new show of Doctor Who because it was always new and exciting!! I would have loved to seen David and Russell at the 2009 Comic Con!!! I watched Doctor Who when I was a kid and Tom Baker was my Doctor and now David is!!

  • all this time i was wondering what is missing while watching the video.WHERE THE FUCK ARE TENNANT'S SIDEBURNS?

  • Are they stoned?

  • I absolutely adore David's laugh. It's so cute. :)

  • bless David's heart he's so cute :)

  • These two are the men who took Doctor Who to a new level and without them the THE SHOW IS SHIT

  • @lestat1468 The shows not that bad its kind of like books turning into movies its two different things...It could have been alot worse and the new doctor has the weirdness too like David. I wouldn't say its shit i would say its differnt but not a bad different.

  • Russell T Davies is a lib douchebag.

  • Yes, he was the best.

  • I have been a Dr.Who fan since I was 2 years old, I first had mixed feelings about the 2005 series and didn't really like the 9th Doctor so when he left and David Tennant took over I was even more skeptical, but is was Tennant that really made the series move who-ish and he reminded me alot of Tom Baker's version of The Doctor. So when Tennant left I was very sad. To make it worse I HATE Matt Smith LOL I think he's bad for the show.

    \

  • I was miserable to see David go, I was crying, and cursing Russell for making that last stupid episode so sad before I remembered that Moffat is a genius. He can write in a loophole without making it seem like an overt one and there is still the clone that they left with Rose. I'll bet you anything that Steven could write it in if he wanted to, and we could get David back. They brought back Billie Piper for a few episodes, they can bring back my Doctor. :P Haha! My fangirl hope is not yet dead!

  • David was my first doctor and is my favorite doctor... he was amazing and showed a side of the doctor that i came to love...so well done sir well done...

  • ai leik dis sho

  • David looks so tiny when he's next to Russel. lol.

  • I LOVE YOU DAVID <3

  • I'd like to iron your shirt, David.

  • effulgent hahaha ... William the Bloody anyone???

  • Yes David why did you leave?! Thats what I love the British entertainment biz, they dont milk it. Leave em wanting more really works. Plus I heard it was bloody hard work !

  • WAARM AND EFFULGENT....nice vocab david....it's all quite awkward though isn't it? Russell seems like a deer caught in the headlights in every interview i've seen...god love him...it's nice to know that these talented and successful people are still just people

  • lol! david looks so small in comparison to RTD

  • @Linmae90 - reminds me of when Hamster is talking to Jeremy Clarkson

  • Just saw David Tennant in "Single Father". Fantastic work, simply superb. You'd never get a role like that in Hollywood. I'd rather see Tennant as a working actor in quality roles, than a Hollywood star.

  • @TheSeverusSnape I fully agree with you in that David has done brilliant work without being in Hollywood!! I'd rather see him in work like Single Father, United, & his various other projects like Decoy Bride. He is such a talented actor both in Theatre & TV that I think he won't have to wait long for work!! Quality work is better than being in Hollywood too many remakes, movies that are over done like Friday the 13, & Halloween Ugh! There is no variety, imagination, & no guts to be different.

  • Seeing Tennant wearing that pale yellow shirt makes me think he would be a great Spike Spiegel. Can he do an American accent?

  • @ryumega Check out the clip of David in 'Rex Is Not Your Lawyer' and decide for yourself. He's had a lot of bad press for that accent, but then, journalists don't think that a story about how good DT is at accents would be quite as readable! You know; bad press is so much more... fun?! I hate the press - and I used to work for a newspaper!

  • @havering1 thanks for the tip. I checked it out and it sounds a TAD awkward but definitely makes me happy to hear.

  • @havering1 David Tennant got no bad "press" at all. Bloggers are not press. And for the record, I have seen the entire pilot and NBC was very high on it when it was presented The problem was they saw it in November - much sooner than they normally see pilots and network executives are fickle - especially at NBC where they're skittish about making a wrong step (which causes them to make more wrong steps). By then they had JJ Abrams, things got very cutthroat and Rex got lost in the shuffle.

  • These two really make great television together. Russell will come up with something to involve David, again. Even if its only 1 episode of a new series. Or a recurring character, perhaps.

Does anyone else find it a bit odd becoming accustomed to seeing David without the sideburns? Or is that just me?

  • i dont like the new guy, david was the best one. i wonder who will be the last doctor.

  • @TheMsYvie grr then you are no true whovian :P

  • @TheMsYvie The last Doctor... You mean the actor that follows whoever replaces Matt Smith(#11)?

12 regenerations = 13 Doctors... Unless the duplicate from Journey's End counts... Does he count? Even David Tennant doen't know if his own double counts. lol

  • lol David Tennant is cagey. haha

  • RTD!!!

He is such an inspiration. I love his writing~

  • This is kinda different than alot of people XD,

Matt Smith is my doctor, so it will be PRETTY WEIRD to look back and say he was the OLD doctor O.o

  • 9:03 HAHAHA I LOVE his laugh. Its so funny and cute and makes me want him even more ;)

  • He is strangely sexy!

  • It's wonderful to see their clear passion for the show. Come back DT and RTD!!

  • i dont no wat ur all talking about dt was a very good doctor but i love matt smith! hes my doctor hes so funny

  • Atleast Russel is still writing Torchwood and Sarh Jane Adventures!

  • 'HeHe Yah!'

    Aww....David <3

  • I miss David, but he deserves the break. It's good that he gets to be a fan again; no pressure that way. And obviously he's just been a really good sport about leaving behind the legacy to Smith. I'm happy to call the 10th my Doctor.

  • @doodsrslyWTF Ya. But Matt smith isn't very good. They could of done better in my opion.

  • @kibalover224 I hope you kept watching. I felt the same way but he did finally become the Doctor for me in the last episode of series 5. He was good in that episode.

  • @frozenpiper2a I agree. Wow I just realized we're having a conversation about Matt smith in a David Tennent video. That's not weird.

  • @doodsrslyWTF That's the spirit!!

  • the best doctor ever

  • I miss R.T.D and David!

  • i love matt smith but david was MY doctor!! :( When you here Russell talk you can so tell he wrote for the doctor! He put his voice in it so much! haha

  • Yea I figured it out thnx anyways

  • Where are those scenes from in the begining if the video

  • @Reggimm The Waters of Mars. The special right before End of Time.

  • Christopher eccleston 7/10

    David Tennant 10/10

    Matt Smith 9/10

  • @Russell230870 I'm more pessimistic lol:

    Christopher Eccleston 5/10

David Tennant 8-9/10 (depending on series)

Matt Smith 7/10 (but anticipating 8/10 if series 6 will contain what I anticipate it will)

  • I still love Matt Smith as the new doctor but Dvid Tennant was my favourite and Russell T. Davies my favourite of the writers.

  • :',( I watched 8 minutes I'll watch the rest later

  • David and Christopher will always be the best doctors.

  • @flyingchilipeppers I hear ya. Eccleston was my first Doctor, and I'll never forget how much I loved him from the very first moment. :]

  • @rocklee1397 no,

    i don't think we do,

he was a very good doctor and i respect his work ALOT

  • @Suerocks11 That's a shame.

  • He is so skinny and rtd is plumpy , reminds me of "Jack sprat" ax

  • Chris regenerated, and I felt like I could never accept David as The Doctor. And then one season later I was totally drawn into David's amazing portrayal. Now I've almost forgotten about Chris.

And then David regenerated and it was an incredible scene.

But it was just so sad.

I'm going to miss David so much...

  • Excellent video interview. David & Russell you are to be congratulated on a very informative, tactful and memory-making interview and /or follow-up to the years that you both participated in Dr. Who.

To the person or persons that recorded and/or prepared this video --kudos and many thanks.

  • Russell T Davis is a Bloated egomaniac who needs rescuing by one of his own fantasy creations.

  • I wonder if Christopher Eccleston is a little jealous....

  • I was at the signing with RTD!

  • anybody know what those two keep looking at...cuz they do it like perfectly in sync its hilarious!!!

  • Good grief. Look at all the wankers posting here. Shame you have to wade through all the hate speech just to enjoy a DW interview. David Tennant isn't a fake, I've seen interviews he did when he was in his 20's and the man hasn't changed a bit.

This interview was done along side Comic-Con. Everyone was overloaded by how massive and exaushting the event was. Search for other interviews or watch a DW confidential if you want something regular.

  • Bit funny that thing David does at 15:22 cute, but did anyone else feel again he was just acting? Will we ever get a glimpse of the real David?

  • I miss his doctor so much...

  • I'm going to miss them both so much, but David Tennant had an alright replacement. Matt Smith is great, but Steven Moffat as the main writer???!!! WHY????????

  • i hate the new doctor who. he's too smug. and they've ruined the music, why can't the bloody BBC producers keep thing the same!!!!!!!!!

  • RTD brought the show back and made it as successful as it is today. EVERYONE was saying Moffat is bttr, Moffat is bttr. Yes his eps in the seris were usually bttr than RTD's, but he hasn't been xec producer or head writer long enough 4 ppl 2 judge him yet. I still believe in Moffat, but Series 5 Eps 2 + 3 don't inspire confidence. Sorry for the rant I just get sick of ppl slamming RTD

  • Farewell DT! :-( I just don't know about Matt Smith :-s

  • @Nautilus1972 Why would two men kissing upset children? At least, if a man and woman kissing isn't upsetting, then why would two men kissing be? The only reason it would be upsetting is if their parents told them it should be, which is ridiculously bad parenting IMHO.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm going to miss David so much. From the few episodes with Matt Smith, and based on the year with Chris Eccleston, I can honestly say David was my absolute favorite Doctor.

    -IMP ;) :)

  • @IceMetalPunk I'm sorry but most ppl who knock RTD do it bcos they say he has a gay agenda. He hasn't hes just reflecting society today, and not in a PC way if a characteris gay its just there, it isn't really a big deal in his stories. Ppl always cite Captain Jack when they give this argument, but really Jack is just John Barrowman being himself

  • @Nautilus1972 Torchwood was never meant 4 children that why it was post watershed. Torchwood started off rocky but got bttr + bttr check out Children of Earth. Eccelston was a good Dr so it doesn't really matter

  • Russell Davies does not know what he's talking about - there was little respect for the history of the series. A robot remote-controlled operation of the Tardis ? Please. RTD's over-seeing of Dr Who was a travesty. His scripts were shit and he took the michael out of the series. Queers in space. Be gone. C'mon Moffat, bring respect back to the Doctor !

  • @Nautilus1972 Queers in space? His scripts werer shit? did you watch doomsday? or the finale to the end of time? I have never seen any queers in space.

  • @jazpyy 2 b fair, have u ever been 2 space. And where, exactly were the gay ppl in those episodes? were they even in space?

  • @227060 Please refrain from commenting when you havent grasped the full facts or even botherd to read the full comment properly and clearly.A user suggested that RTD wrote queers in space and watching Dr Who, I can see no queers in space.

  • @jazpyy I apologise I believed u were suggesting the things u were questioning and on closer inspection I realise u were doing the complete opposite and seem 2 share similar sentiments 2 myself. Although while it is true some characters in RTD's (and other writers') scripts set off Earth were indeed homo or bi sexual (or omni if it featured Jack) it is not really grounds for criticism.

  • @Nautilus1972 YeahMoffat respect the series. Get rid of the old Daleks that at looked alot like the orignals so u can get some more marketable ones. 2 b fair its only been 3 eps I'm still willing 2 give hiom a chance. He did respect the old series he updated it so new fans can get on board and the continuity of his stories was pretty sound with the old series. HIs eps were well written and whats wrong with 'queers in space', hoefully by whatever century there'd b a bit more tolerance

  • I wanted Chris back...I need my cynical Doctor. Hugh Laurie, the next doctor....I wish.

  • Doctor who really is one of the greatest classics and thank you to this team for making it all it could be --- the hero "myth" is beautifully personified in dr who--- a few superheroes hit that spot for the unconscious urge for the saviour the hero...... this is one of them and it was wonderfully done

  • @beyondallillusions I love super heroes but when Dr who came back in 2005 I realised he was actually greater than the like sof Supoerman (the most pwerful), Spider-Man (the most relatable and my fav) or even Batman (the coolest of the cool) bcos hes a guy who saves the universe (quite routinly) and he does it all without throwing a single punch

  • Haha David is three times as small as Russel! I love it =]

  • great interview, the guy knows what he's talking about

  • After Christopher left I thought the same thing, but now after David was on for such a long time IMO he is the only Doctor. I will truly miss David as Dr Who.

  • @Prence Chirstopher was my 1st Dr (excepting clips I'd glanced at) and I was really worried when he left. But David just blew every1 else out of the water, he is the defining Doctor of my generation, in yrs 2 come ppl will talk of him the same way Tom Baker was spoken of b4 2005. I can't say anything bad aboout Chris though, David just exceeded him. Smith is actually good too, not as good but worthy successor

  • @Prence He's not the "Only" Doctor. There were 9 before David. 1- William Hartnell 2- Patrick Troughton 3- Jon Pertwee 4- Tom Baker 5- Peter Davison 6- Colin Baker 7- Selvester McCoy 8- Paul McGann 9- Christopher Eccleston
  • @DoctorWhoCenter2010 I know there have been many men who were Dr Who, but like I said "IMO" David is the only Dr Who!

  • @DoctorWhoCenter2010 plus Peter Cushing in the film! but that's non-canonical

  • @Prence this happened in the old days, too - each was Doctor for about three years, and eveyrone said, "they'll never replace him" but they managed it each time - it just takes some adjusting to. Chris Ecclestone didn't really stay long enough to imprint himself as "the" Doctor, so for you young 'uns. this will be your first time/

  • @franl155 I know they replace the Doctor, and I know the men who play the Doctor only do so for a short time. I'm saying that IMO FOR ME DAVID IS THE ONLY DOCTOR! Many will come and go but David is the only one that has done so the best.. You may not agree with me but I stand by what I said.

  • @Prence *s* know what you mean! I still haven't decided who my very best-ever Doctor is yet - David or Tom. No doubt that DT's are the best shows ever [so far!]- FX, music, the technology is awesome, the writing is allowed to go into areas previously forbidden - it all came together beautifully and DT crowned it marvellously. But Doctor Who was always cutting-edge, even back in the 60s!

  • I was so sad to see them go.

  • if you don't like, don't watch, it's simple

  • Aw you know, I was filled with pride to hear an American call The Doctor "the coolest guy in the galaxy".

  • Comment removed

  • In saying that, you immediately look like the pathetic moron here. Get a life and stop leaving hateful comments unecessarily.

  • 9:03 the giggle! the giggle!

    *faints*

  • 1:37 - 'yes i am a genius script writer and i know everything, wouldn't you like to be able to read my mind ;)'

he's moved to LA? nooooo russell come back to wales!!

also fulgent is now my favourite word :D

  • @thyasus

    Firstly, learn to spell genius.

Secondly, calm down its just my opinion.

Thirdly, you obviously aren't a fan of Doctor Who (not Dr Who fyi) so why are you even watching this video?

I think YOU need to wake up and realize that people don't appreciate your comments.

What's that? oh, comment was removed by author, thyasus' comment -8.

Get a life, stop putting a downer on other people's comments and stop pushing YOUR s****.

To conclude, thanks for your opinion but I don't care.

    :)

  • If you're going to comment, learn to spell and consider your sentence structure. Oh and learn some new insults, telling people to 'wake up' loses it's impact pretty quickly.

Um, why would he write it if he thought it was bad?

In control of what? Do tell as I find your opinion most extraordinarily interesting.

  • I think RTD and DT have some great chemistry I can't wait to see if they work together again

  • i realise kids probably on this page so i will be discreet, but i just wanted to know, i'm watchin queer as folk on utube shows and saw russel t davies wrote it, not that it has any bearing on anything, but he didnt strike me as writing from experience, if he isn't, is "queer as folk" totally off the mark in regards to the social scene it presents, that's why i wondered, is it realistic or has he just been on one night out and taped a few conservations?

  • Comment removed

  • @bryngOneOn Queer as folk was semi-autobiographical... He is!

  • in that case he was probably the big , flabby bloke who when he's told back at the flat nothing was going to happen , bed wise, and he goes "ooooh i was really looking forward to that" who disguised his true body with that hilarious body armour pads that make you look like your buff with a six pack and pecs. i giggled so much at that , do some people actually think stuff like that fools people, thanks for replying by the way

  • I've just got really hyped for the Doctor Who universe now. I just heard that Torchwood is definatly getting a series 4 as well as a spin off set in America, but using the orignal production team. But the cherry on top is that River Song, the Doctor's future companion (wife?????) is gonna b in Series 5. CXan some1 set me straight on something. Russel T Davies has stepped down as Executive producer on Dr who, but is he still involved with its spin offs or has he just left all of the shows

  • @227060 It is my understanding that he is still in charge of Torchwood and Sarah Jane.

  • Oh I see, well thats good he invented them so he'll still have important input. Does anyone know If he'll still b writing 4 Dr Who at all, u know kinda taking up MOfat's1 or 2 episodes per series wile Mofat covers the opening closing kinda eps.? Or was End of Time really RTD's end in Dr who (he could bcom an aniv writer someday u never know)

  • I'm waiting for the new (11th) Dr., but really hated to see David Tennant go. The 9th doctor was good, but Tennant set the bar pretty high.

  • love all the Doctors, but David will always be my Doctor. was crying so hard when he left :(

  • @Nimue1985 me too i couldnt sleep for weeks for crying

  • @Nimue1985 me too! I had to skip school I was so distraught!

  • @Nimue1985 I agree. David Tennant was the best of the doctors I know. When he was regenerating I was so mad. The new guy is not that good in my opion.

  • @Nimue1985

    10th Doctor: "I don't want to go. <:("

    Me: "BAWWWWWWWWW!!! TT_TT"

  • They kept talking about kids in the interview, is this supposed to be a kids show? 'Cause I am 20 and I think that it is the best TV show that I have ever seen.

  • @pyromaniacchica It started out as a kids show but its now classed as a family show. Theres something in there for everyone from kids to geeks. Yeah fantastic show.

  • I love those two :P though when together they are slightly insane. David is so amazing :)

  • @xPrincessKx i think David Tennant is reli kool because he was was born within 30 miles of me and came from a similar background. and plus... what an actor!and he seems like a realy nice guy.

  • These two are such fun to watch. XD

  • God was it ever crazy! I completely agree; gal two rows in front of me during the panel was in tears because she didn't get to ask a question! Totally nuts. Lucky you for meeting Davies.

  • These two look like father and son! haha.

  • This was a great interview. Is it me or does David sound like he may be Scottish? I don't know I can't tell what accents are what.

  • He is scottish.

  • Yes and Russell T Davies is Welsh. I'd be curious as to whether many Americans could distinguish a Welsh accent from an English one though, and Russell's isn't an especially strong one anyway. Maybe it's like asking Brits to distinguish Canadian from US English. We can but only if we've been told what to listen for.

  • Aww, what buddies!

But David is absolutely right about what he says at the end. Doctor Who has a philosophy about it, that teaches that anything can be done, that the littlest things have the greatest joy... And it really does promote wonderful wonderful things.

  • Is it me or Russel T Davis is kinda hot! I heard that he is gay too? mmmm...

  • @jibikao He is, but he doesn't act like it.. Ever noticed all the gay references he puts into Doctor Who, Torchwood, and (obviously) the gay drama Queer as Folk. That was my big tip off.

  • @mowingthefrontlawn Yeah. A lot of gay people don't act "femine" at all. My hubby is one of them! I find Russel pretty sexy. I like macho guys! And he is so tall!!!

  • i didn't notice it in the Doctor but in Torchwood it was very obvious.

  • Well the phone conversation between the Doctor and Master.. altough that may have been a indepenent effort from John Simm :S uh.. i dunno. And lots of other little subtle things.

  • Thank you!

  • Well said, there were times that Dr Who was just a punchline, but my how the worm has turned! It is now rock solid. Let us see what the brilliant and talented Moffat brings to the already huge success left behind by Russell and David. They kicked it up several notches! Well done gentlemen.

  • I'm curious, why do they call each year of the show a series instead of a season? Why isn't it Season 1, Season 2, etc. instead of Series 1, Series 2, etc? Even David Tennant says Season 5, not Series 5 in this interview.

  • its because its a British programme so we call it a series, not a season which is the American word for it, but they mean exactly the same thing... it doesn't really matter which.

  • @turquoisebutterfly91 That's what I thought, but then David said Season so I was confused. Wasn't the Classic Series made up of Seasons, though?

  • Because they're British. It's common in Britain apparently!

  • What's common in Britain?

  • @makesomenoiiise

if you mean accents: English in England, Scottish in Scotland, Welsh in Wales and Irish in Ireland.

But then you have regional accents; for example, someone from Somerset sounds completely different to someone from Yorkshire.

  • Yeah I know that, I'm english myself. I was wondering what the guy meant by "its common in britain", but I figured it out now.

  • awesome interview. loved it :)

  • i dont like the first dr who

  • Great interview. I really felt like I was sitting there having a conversation with those two. Well done.
