  • Glad I got to experience and live through this era of hiphop culture!

  • Love this track, pete rock always puts his soul into his music.

  • blu mentioned this in "narrow path" i had to check it out

  • I'm so addicted to this beat man. I'd be damned if I found anything smoother than this. Pete Rock puts up his best performance on the mic to date.

  • BIG BLUDKLAAT TUNE, JAMES BROWN SAMPLE!!! BIG!!!

  • This is sick! that line was in head yesterday. had to check for this.

  • I feel like floating away.....

  • Waiting for the Deluxe Box Set off this one too. I got Mecca & the Soul Brother Special Edition (bonus tracks, remixes, instrumentals & accapellas) for Christmas. It's dope, but this sounds even better

  • Man this is the jam. Dont be listenin to t pain and lil wayne and all that garbage, now-a-days music is okay but damn, this is it. I think its hilarious when im listenning to this song and my friends come over and are like wtf? i just start laughing; just because im 15 doesnt mean i have a great taste in music!! :)

  • @TheIdaaMariee to be 15 and diggin the real like this, you definitely are wiser than your contemporaries when it comes to your taste in hip hop

  • I want this played at my funeral! -_-

  • escapism...my shit!!!

  • "Check the verse in the Bible says, "Man should never covet" but in your life you put nothing above it, you seem to love it."

    S I C K

  • you buggin godzman, dilla and 9th def have thier own style and are in no way pete rock clones, especially not dilla. 9th does use a lot of soul samples but in a much different way than pete rock, and dilla has a very unique style, probably more comparable to madlib than anyone else

  • @DjTiP04 Pete Rock was Dilla's favorite producer. he purposefully took a lot of cues from him. do your research

  • @epidemik34 And that's why Pete had the courtesy and LOVE for Dilla to help in finishing off his album after he'd passed away...

Just like when Pete & Premo teamed up to complete Big L's The Big Picture.

    Real love.

  • Godzman, I agree no comparison with Pete, RZA, PRIMO, but you got it twisted..Dilla was that good and even better no clone. Pete, i'm sure would tell you. Easy does it par!

  • -ISM

  • this beat (drums) are sampled from the Pointer Sisters "Yes We Can Can" (1973), riiight??

  • That's when Hip-Hop was Hip-Hop. Not that crap you listen to now.

  • muzik!!!

  • Forgot J Dilla & Madlib ;)

  • Pete Rock and DJ Premier are the 2 best producers.

  • @xbigeL13 xcept Dre

    1) Dr Dre

    2) Premo

    3) Pete Rock

  • This is a classic Pete Rock beat. This is the epitome of Pete Rock.

  • This whole album is classic from start to finish. A must have for your collection.

  • thanks gene shallot

  • supreme classic

  • when you get time subscribe to my channel & comment your favorite video,I'd appreciate it so much

  • true ish right here.

  • This takes me back to my COLLEGE DAYS!! Man, I use to bump this joint!!!

  • Damn another hot pete rock track!!

  • what a gem.

happy i found this, i always pass it on the album cause i always skip to I Get Physical, ha.

glad i gave the whole album a listen.

  • CL could make a comeback today and rip 100% of the mainstream "RAPPERS" to shreds.

  • no doubt that this is real hip hop. i dont even turn on the radio anymore cause i hate listenin to this era of dance music. the shit just buey.

  • I feel the same fucking way. Stupid commercial stuff is just taking an ax to what hip-hop used to be.

  • im 16 and i fukin hate t pain and lil wayne and that stupid new shit its all crap, this is real music rite here.

  • good 4 you. we have enough of these youtube heads bragging how old they are and how they like real hip hop.

  • that right sun, 88 headz still running shit. don't hate you kidz are not built for this shit. so ride on out with your swagg or wateva you young fruity ass niggaz are doing these dayz. whole generation of faggots. NO lie!

  • this is my joint off this album i could always light up to this one!!!!!!

  • Shiiiiit, the whole damn album is fly. I've been looking for a copy of it, and could never find it.

  • I can honestly say i really enjoyed this album. This track reminds me of the 90's, the last great era of music before Puffy destroyed it!

  • when i think about it u are right puffy is a big reason why hip hop is destroyed.

  • it was only a matter of time. if not puffy, then someone else

  • Yeah, Puffy fucked it up for all of us! Using all those corny ass samples and now it costs too much for MCs and DJs to get clearances now, so they gotta use bullshit synthesizers almost all the time.

  • producers have been sampling since the birth of hip hop...its not the tools of the artist that make him/her great. its what he/she does with the tools.

  • This is one of the best hip hop tracks made in my opinion... Im 20 and almost everyone I bump this kinda shit around just has a look on thier face like wtf?? where t payne at?? Fuck the mainstream

  • Wow. I really can not imagine that. When I was in college which was mid 90s we would put the speakers in the dorm window facing the courtyard and crank this CD and everyone would raise their windows. If T Payne was out back then he would have got food thrown at him on stage. They would have thrown his own CD at him.

  • @rarenature you're so lucky- the 90s was the last of the golden age of both popular and underground music!

  • @benmoffat

damn dude i feel you. whenever i pick up my lil bro and his friends from high school, i'm playing shit like this in my car; pete rock, atcq, de la, tribe, dilated, madlib, heiro, pharcyde, etc...my lil' brother loves real music, but his friends have been consumed by skinny jeans...LONG LIVE REAL HIP-HOP!!!

  • I wish when Pete was rapping CL was in the backround going, "Yea... WOOOH... allright" like pete does when CL's rapping.

  • "The brothers who brought you escapism!"

  • i'm 21 and i know what real hip hop is and this is it.....

  • this is just too smooth.

    im sleepy now.

peace to all the real heads

  • Man, really smooth.

  • LOL.......you got jokes.

  • very nice, somethin for tha black books

  • Pete Rock was at his full prime at this time period this song really shows his capabilities

  • I agree the subtleties in the Main ingredient are unreal. I'd even venture to say his production on INI's center of attention is at The main ingredients level as well. Was made around the same time as well. When Pete is on he's every bit as good as Premier, RZA, Dre, Dilla,Extra P, ect. he just had a shorter prime then any of them. You can tell thru his music he may have the best knowledge of music than any of them though.

  • Your right on every level bruh! If Pete wants, he could go back to that level right now if he wanted to! You have the main four plus Pete right there though. Alot of peeps forget about Diamond D & Showbiz too!

  • y do you kids keep comparing dilla to pete, rza, and premier. he was not that good. god bless the dead, but him and 9th wonder are pete rock clones!

  • Yeah, gets these cat's heads where we at man.

  • word

  • @godzman7 I'm sorry my dude, J dilla and PR are remotely similiar if that, and thats stretching it. But to call Dilla, PR, and 9th wonder clones. Thats wayyyy off. 9th wonders style is completely different from their heavy jazz related hip hop. Completely different. I dislike 9th wonder heavily, Dilla is aight, But PR i got mad props for. But to call dilla not good.... thats opinion. But, yuo must be deaf if you think those 3 sound exactly the same

  • @godzman7 Dilla not that good??? WTF are you smoking.. You need to listen to some more Dilla.. You do realize that he produced like half of a tribe called quests albums right.. But I guess ATCQ is not that good either or Pharcyde which he produced tracks for also... PR was one of Dillas inspirations but he was NOT trying to be like him.. you can NOT honestly tell me that this isn't good: /watch?v=1hZKN4AZ63g

  • @godzman7 speaking the trues right there son

  • @godzman7 Dilla was crazy. One of the best! I disagree!

  • @godzman7 Dilla was a Pete clone? You serious? Two total different sounds, appreciate!

  • @godzman7 i dont agree, cause Dilla produced alott of tibe shit and he produced woohaa for bustah rhymes, what they brought was a style of producing, sord of like trend of producing

  • CL SMOOTH is one of the most underrated rappers in the history of hiphop, as well as LORD FINNESE, FREDDY FOX, TREACH, & AZ >:(

  • you know your shit

    peace

  • THANKS, well im 37, so i grew up on rap music since the begging of KURTIS BLOW era. i forgot about GRAND PUBA also :)

  • true, im 31 and I feel you.

  • I am too bruh! Hey I feel ya! Peeps don't even know! Like people don't remember Intelligent Hoodlum, K-Solo, Cella Dwellas, & others! Then you mention Lord Finesse? I still have Lord Finesse's first tape! People can't even grasp his intellect & flow! And CL could blow you off without a curse word! A very underrated lyricist indeed! Nevawrong, I don't think these young cats know bruh!

  • very true, especially AZ

  • The best album!!!

  • this song is soooooo sikk and the beat at the end is badass

  • Dope!

  • fuuuull track

  • used to be my favourite track off the album.. sound great at 4+ pitch

  • I love this song. He's rapping about some very real situation in life. Classic song, cornerstone1019 highly agree with you great verse.

  • Schweppes4, there is still a lot of quality hip hop being released. You just have to dig a lot harder than you once had to. A good example of a recent classic is "Below The Heavens" by Blu & Exile. Don't let the abundance of wack shit deter you from the culture.

  • Classic LP. Son doesn't have to be a nice rapper. He's dope producer who just jumped on the mic. Very creative track..Herbie Hancock on clavs..Earth Wind in the backround and classic Biz stab..1994 good year for hip hop.

  • I knew I recognised Earth Wind and Fire! Which song is it? I gotta go dig through my Pop's vinyl now.

  • it sounds like 'Sun Goddess' with Ramsey Lewis.

  • & pete wasnt really the nicest rapper ... but he held it down ... this album was tight

  • why did dilla had to die of lupus

  • We had it sooo good in the 90's and we didn't realize it until we got older and watched the state of hip hop today. That's why I will always go back and listen to the classic, cuz they are just timeless!

  • I'm 27 years old and I totally agree Schweppes4. You don't know what you got till it's gone.

  • I wouldnt go as far as sayin its gone

  • I couldnt agree more. it was 90s hiphop that hooked me for life... It was a music that was custom made for me. I dont get tired of it..

  • i miss the 90s shit i miss real hiphop but i REALLY MISS PPL LIKE YALL who arent dumbed down man......dang what wrong with today furreal @ my high skool "cassidy is a legend "....man

  • Great! One of my favorite tracks on The Main Ingredient Album. Pete Rock took it over. Who is he talking to.

  • To the competition who was heavily biting his style of music production. The open lyric, "Check the verse in the Bible, it says "Man should never covet". Covet meaning the desire to have what another person has. One of favorite records of this album.

  • This is for PatTurner

  • I love the mood in of this song, you can just rock your head to it and chill. So damn smooth!

  • that perfectly describes the whole Main Ingredient album.

  • Timeless!!!

  • never gets old

  • thx 4 post i didn't hear this song in years and still sound good as the 1st time i heard it this song gets old

  • i think my favorite joit off main ingredient!

  • this is my favorite off that album too... the whole album is so damn good...

  • Sounds Like Pete Rock And C.L. Smooth - Carmel City!

  • Nice sample from Earth,Wind and Fire.

'playing u like a crash test dummy'

  • He uses a few different samples in here! And listen how they mesh together! Pete Rock is the man!

  • I knew I recognised EWF! Which song is it? I gotta go dig through my Pop's vinyl now.

  • i agree 100% Kaizenva.. this album MUST get run by me..

  • Like most talented people, Pete Rock might not get acknowledged until he stops producing music or dies. I just recently realize alot the track I loved listening too were produced by J-dilla. Searching is still my favorite track off Main Ingredient.

  • Yeah, Pete Rock is the man! My top favorite of the hiphop producers! Very underrated! Pete is the SUPER D.I.T.C. digger! He finds & uses stuff people wouldn't think of!

  • Always loved hearing this track. This album is very underrated and Pete Rock is still my favorite producer.

  • Pete Rock Works Very Hard & Cats Still Be Frontin' On Him. They Need To Give PR His

    Props Man, For Real.
