@annefrankisaho He took that from an interview. Justin was talking about his concerns about the first Jesu album that still had traces of Godflesh scattered throughout. Lol.
@willabema Agreed. Sure, I guess he can't " sing" well, but they fit and are sincere so who cares ( Though I'm not much into Jesu admittedly, more Godflesh for me!)
"We can always see the sunset - we can never see the sunrise".
The way Broadrick uses the major scale and still creates something torn between happy and profoundly sorrowful...the short, concise sentences...the ponderous slowness of the atmospheres....
head of david does not sound terribly different from jesu - it's as if he's gone around in a circle...I meant that as a compliment...at least he's seen the sense in reforming godflesh though - JK's genius is in his ability to make such starkly contrasting music - uplifting, relaxing Jesu and crushing, bleak godflesh
yeah i know stackmo - there needs to be a new godflesh around as much as i love jesu. godflesh just dug it out from a bit deeper - i understand that justin has had his part of it though. after enough digging you find some jewels in the coal and they are so much prettier :)
They are one of those bands, like Killing Joke perhaps, who though rather underground and not widely recognised, have made a massive impact upon music. Head of David's dog day sunrise is much better than fear factory's version - they do such rubbish covers, as great as the rest of demanufacture is.

well, justin is...so, why can't I--oh, it's not very hipster. gotcha. i'll just stand there, unaffected, thinking only of how others are perceiving me, hoping they don't think i'm enjoying it too much, or in some visceral way. thanks for the tip.
JK is one of the nicest and most down-to-earth people in the music biz, no question. seeing him at the Picador (which honestly looks a hell of a lot like where the concert footage was taken, but doubt it is) with Jesu was a fuckin' treat. a friend of mine saw Jesu on his birthday back in AZ and he actually got a chance to chat with JK for a little bit; he even wished him a happy birthday. if that had happened to me i don't think i could have stopped myself from screaming like a teen fangirl.

I almost had a chance to see Godflesh...after the last release "Hymns". But Justin cancelled the tour and quit Godflesh. Heartbreaking. One of my most influential bands. Jesu is a great project to follow Godflesh...
@jburger360 Jesu carries on the beautiful moments in Godflesh, which is a unique and sublime band. Justin's voice, as it became more melodic, got more sincere. To me it's timeless and eternal music that can reach an emotional depth that music seldom reaches, for me...
i remember the first time i heard streetcleaner i thought:"shit, i cant workout at the gym with this! i thought all industrial music was good workout music!". Then one day i sit in my room and discovered that slowed-down industrial was even more damaging (in a good way)than the sped up one.
correct me, but is this jesu project supposed to be indie rock?
Everybody tells me that this band is so heavy, but as far as I can tell they sound like a sludgier version of Mogwai - who I do like btw - or something. I know that heavy has many definitions, but is there something of theirs I'm missing ?
Ah, yeah, I agree on the amount of garbage "heavy" bands, mostly due to the fact that the kind of heavy that most people would think of nowadays is just fucking uninspired garbage. For how I had always seen this band referenced to other bands and the fact that Justin was in Godflesh, I was expecting something a little more in that area. I'll definitely check out their early stuff though, thanks for the suggestion.
Jesu is a natural step after Godflesh. Justin Broadrick is a genious since his teen days. He still surprising us with powerful music and poetry beyond his sound. Keep on going man... u rule.
Yea, I think so. Empire's colab with TA was still better than any of the COGV stuff. I have some Lo Fiber and Hi Fiber recs as well but TA feels the most complete feeling. Maybe its because I got to see it happen.
Yeah, he's a great guy and everything, but I think the whole Isis-thing that Jesu sort of also do is owing most of its character, feeling and perception to post rock and specially Mogwai. This is not being said enough because for some strange reason the Scots are supposed to be un-cool and too mellow for metalheads...
sorry, i dont quite agree with you , jesu dont really owe its character to post rock or mogwai . even though i 'm into post rock and mogwai . Justin been trying this kind of stuff even when he is was in godflesh.
I know what you mean and the comparison had to do mainly with the Isis thing, I must admit Jesu are kinda different, yeah... I was referring to the whole repetitive, hypnotic, sort of cyclic guitar riff, the slower parts followed by titanic guitars and all that, which I believe to be, in general, a loan from post rock...
i only found out last year i been listening to napalm death for years and i thought broadrick is my name and his from birmingham UK it seemed so odd and realising im related to him one of greatest feelings hehe !!

Jesu's first two or three(I haven't heard their out of print EP Heartache) releases are the best.
Some of it is heavy. Comparatively, I don't think or care about that. There are tons of "heavier" groups. Most are complete crap too.
