• @annefrankisaho He took that from an interview. Justin was talking about his concerns about the first Jesu album that still had traces of Godflesh scattered throughout. Lol.

  • @LandOfMutants

    Yeah, I have to agree.

  • @MCVenarse @LandOfMutants

I think that's the point. The vocals fit the music.

  • @willabema Agreed. Sure, I guess he can't " sing" well, but they fit and are sincere so who cares ( Though I'm not much into Jesu admittedly, more Godflesh for me!)

  • @Doomination Me too. Godflesh are legendary!

  • "Try not to lose yourself"

"We can always see the sunset - we can never see the sunrise".

The way Broadrick uses the major scale and still creates something torn between happy and profoundly sorrowful...the short, concise sentences...the ponderous slowness of the atmospheres....

    Britain's got talent ! hehee...

  • My favorite band, currently.

  • Godflesh are one of the best bands ever

  • What's the song at 7.00?

  • @MechanicalSelection its ok i worked it out, it's guardian angel

  • @MechanicalSelection The music at 7:00 is "Silver"

  • ...wait - are the live clips from jesu or head of david?

  • head of david does not sound terribly different from jesu - it's as if he's gone around in a circle...I meant that as a compliment...at least he's seen the sense in reforming godflesh though - JK's genius is in his ability to make such starkly contrasting music - uplifting, relaxing Jesu and crushing, bleak godflesh

  • "and how nobody should ever expect a Godflesh reunion...ever! "

ha! hellfest 2010. one show only mind you...

  • This guy has done it all.

  • wats the first song called the show live

  • Sounds like "We All Faulter" from the self-titled album.

  • @anarx138 Yup! That's the one.

  • re:ubmiliatant. The song is called 'we all faulter' from Jesu's self titled LP.

  • does anyone have any idea what guitar he is using, I know he used a strat back in his Godflesh days but what guitar is he using now?

  • he uses a schecter 7-string i think.

  • it's a Brian Moore.

  • yeah i know stackmo - there needs to be a new godflesh around as much as i love jesu. godflesh just dug it out from a bit deeper - i understand that justin has had his part of it though. after enough digging you find some jewels in the coal and they are so much prettier :)

  • They are one of those bands, like Killing Joke perhaps, who though rather underground and not widely recognised, have made a massive impact upon music. Head of David's dog day sunrise is much better than fear factory's version - they do such rubbish covers, as great as the rest of demanufacture is.

  • love Jesu music... thanks for the upload.

  • Godflesh is dead but not forgotten, long live Jesu

  • someone telll me what the second live song they do is please

  • the name of that song is called Silver its off of that Silver EP

  • Do you know what the first live song is?

  • We All Faulter

    Off the S/T album.

  • thanks so much.

  • i really wish that kid didnt headbang to silver

  • just because you dont headbang doesnt mean your not enjoying the music or that it doesnt affect you

but if you are the only person headbanging then you need to stop. its obnoxious

  • JK is one of the nicest and most down-to-earth people in the music biz, no question. seeing him at the Picador (which honestly looks a hell of a lot like where the concert footage was taken, but doubt it is) with Jesu was a fuckin' treat. a friend of mine saw Jesu on his birthday back in AZ and he actually got a chance to chat with JK for a little bit; he even wished him a happy birthday. if that had happened to me i don't think i could have stopped myself from screaming like a teen fangirl.

  • Justin Broadrick is the man: ND, Godflesh, Jesu, J2 and his remixes. Can't beat them.

It's a shame he seems to be so negative about ND and the current line up.

  • if you listen to newer jesu its hard to believe the same guy basically invented grindcore.

  • I almost had a chance to see Godflesh...after the last release "Hymns". But Justin cancelled the tour and quit Godflesh. Heartbreaking. One of my most influential bands. Jesu is a great project to follow Godflesh...

  • Fuck yea silver

  • Silver is such a great song.

  • no, jesu is just very uplifting music

    its really hard to describe

not even close to indie rock

  • @jburger360 jesu is too indie for metalkids and too metal for indie kids..

if you want a genre, i hear jesu as known as shoegaze-metaltonica

  • @dasweschen Most metal kids are stupid purists anyway.

  • @dasweschen JK said Jesu was "Coherent and Structured Pop Songs"

  • @jburger360 Jesu carries on the beautiful moments in Godflesh, which is a unique and sublime band. Justin's voice, as it became more melodic, got more sincere. To me it's timeless and eternal music that can reach an emotional depth that music seldom reaches, for me...

  • i remember the first time i heard streetcleaner i thought:"shit, i cant workout at the gym with this! i thought all industrial music was good workout music!". Then one day i sit in my room and discovered that slowed-down industrial was even more damaging (in a good way)than the sped up one.

correct me, but is this jesu project supposed to be indie rock?

  • Schecter?!?!??!

  • Really? I think he comes across as a very thoughtfull intelligent chap.

  • Emo? lol wut?

I wish emo sounded this great! Damn, I wish it were even tolerable.

I don't know where you're coming up with all this Mr. Mountain Dew advertiser. Not EXTREME enough to do the dew to dude?

  • I like you know what you are talking about. Dumb ass. Calling jesu emo? Wow.

  • Everybody tells me that this band is so heavy, but as far as I can tell they sound like a sludgier version of Mogwai - who I do like btw - or something. I know that heavy has many definitions, but is there something of theirs I'm missing ?

  • It's very challenging but you will like it.

  • In my opinion, heavy defines music that carries emotional weight.

  • That's a pretty decent definition

  • Jesu's first two or three(I haven't heard their out of print EP Heartache) releases are the best.

Some of it is heavy. Comparatively, I don't think or care about that. There are tons of "heavier" groups. Most are complete crap too.

  • Ah, yeah, I agree on the amount of garbage "heavy" bands, mostly due to the fact that the kind of heavy that most people would think of nowadays is just fucking uninspired garbage. For how I had always seen this band referenced to other bands and the fact that Justin was in Godflesh, I was expecting something a little more in that area. I'll definitely check out their early stuff though, thanks for the suggestion.

  • You're missing out. Heartache is an incredible piece of music. The amount of emotion in it is soul crushing.

  • YYYYYEAAAAH BABY1!1!1!!1

  • FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!! is the only word.

  • FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!! is the only word.

  • Jesu is a natural step after Godflesh. Justin Broadrick is a genious since his teen days. He still surprising us with powerful music and poetry beyond his sound. Keep on going man... u rule.

ps. sorry for my english... hehe

  • "melodies in 60s and 70s pop music..." brilliant

  • do they ever do any Godflesh songs though?

  • No. But, like he did with the last few days of Godflesh, he occasionally covers the song "Requiem" by Killing Joke.

  • EXIT/Godfleh(r.i.p)Enter/Jesu

    Brutally,Beautiful

  • Jesu Fucking Rocks

  • Seems like a really nice guy

  • i dig jesu alot but his singing is way off on this clip. plus when they played with isis a couple of years ago it was the same story.

  • God bless! This man is brilliant!

  • Jesu is great, but come on...GODFLESH REUNION!

  • Long live Jesu!

  • Broadrick to say the least is one of the most creative individuals ever. I absolutely embrace Jesu. Amazing band.

  • As much as i love Godflesh i really hope they don't reunite. Godflesh is dead. Long live Jesu.

  •
and how nobody should ever expect a Godflesh reunion...ever!
----------------------------

so this means that we soon can expect a godflesh reunion :)

  • sweet thanks for posting this,

  • Yea, I think so. Empire's colab with TA was still better than any of the COGV stuff. I have some Lo Fiber and Hi Fiber recs as well but TA feels the most complete feeling. Maybe its because I got to see it happen.

  • I saw Techno Animal and Canibal Ox play together, it was incredible. TA is his best electronic music hands down.

  • Even better than Curse Of The Golden Vampire?

  • loan to this loan to that Mogwai post-rock BS it is what it is just listen to the music.

  • this is a brilliant interview, hes wicked!

  • Yeah, he's a great guy and everything, but I think the whole Isis-thing that Jesu sort of also do is owing most of its character, feeling and perception to post rock and specially Mogwai. This is not being said enough because for some strange reason the Scots are supposed to be un-cool and too mellow for metalheads...

  • sorry, i dont quite agree with you , jesu dont really owe its character to post rock or mogwai . even though i 'm into post rock and mogwai . Justin been trying this kind of stuff even when he is was in godflesh.

  • Its really low tuned grinding guitar playing dark indie rock pop. i guess.

  • but i could be wrong

  • I know what you mean and the comparison had to do mainly with the Isis thing, I must admit Jesu are kinda different, yeah... I was referring to the whole repetitive, hypnotic, sort of cyclic guitar riff, the slower parts followed by titanic guitars and all that, which I believe to be, in general, a loan from post rock...

  • oh ok

  • The words thank you come to mind.

  • everything Justin Broadrick has made has been solid. including the drum n bass that was released.

  • Wow this is fantastic and i really loved the E.P.

Happy, Sad, Slow, Fast who gives a shit as long as it brutal crushing either way.

  • Great interview, nice to see some quality footage of the band and the man.

  • i only found out last year i been listening to napalm death for years and i thought broadrick is my name and his from birmingham UK it seemed so odd and realising im related to him one of greatest feelings hehe !!

  • i only found out last year i been listening to napalm death for years and i thought broadrick is my name and his from birmingham UK it seemed so odd and realising im related to him one of greatest feelings hehe !!

  • Really? Lucky bastard !

  • Nice.

  • from boston show

  • great interview...

Which show is this from by the way?

I just saw Jesu with Isis the other night in NYC and i'm trying to figure out whether or not the footage is from that.

  • Cambridge show. I was actually standing just to the left of the cameras frame with my friends.

Next to the speakers mind you. My ears were still cloudy the next day.

  • that is not the backstage area at irving.
