  • brings back memories

  • If there was ever any doubt that white chicks can't dance......

  • @cspace1234nz What is your definition of 'Dancing'? It's all from your age and viewpoint. She is sweet, attractive and moves in a 'Ladylike' way. Not all 'Dancing' has to be in your face Sexuality!

  • @KILLAMARSHROY Sexuality ? You mentioned that, I agree with that point anyway.

As you suggest...."She is sweet, attractive and moves in a 'Ladylike' way" but that has little to do with dance.

Dance is about rhythm and white chicks, generally speaking, just don't have it. Some do, I remember seeing one or two that do.

  • Sweet. Thumbs up for you Petula!

  • Sweet Song, well done. Who's the guy blowing her a kiss, the host of the show? Anyhow, a cute touch.

  • @Themanwhocameback2 Sacha Distel

  • Tony Hatch's songwriting skills + Petula Clark's vocal talent = pop music perfection.

  • 'just great'

  • Great song from a great era, would love to have been a teenager in the 60's,but was only 6 and a bit when the decade ended.Top post mmgclpta.

  • @MrHaggis64 It was a great time.

  • 1:49 always my first reaction when I see a woman I like.

  • @psychomajic666 ..my second..

  • Sacha Distel looks like a young Peter Lawford....this is a great song....

  • One of her best without doubt. A lovely song sang with feeling.

  • what's not to like???????

  • Absolutely love this song and Petula Clark. A special lady with a terrific gift!

  • I love you too Petula Clark. Keep singing these beautiful songs.

  • Know I've said it before but Sacha Distel looks like a young Peter Lawford....and I say that as a compliment....

  • Who is the ONE knucklehead who dislikes this song....

  • @centralparocker don't worry..I took care of him.

  • Comment removed

  • @centralparocker obviously someone tone deaf

  • What power and passion in her crescendo..... !!!! Love it.

And Sacha Distel.....apparently one of the greatest husband and fathers EVER !!

Turned down Brigitte Bardot ? Wow.

  • @bridgmansmith Sacha Distel

  • who's the guy at 1:55?

  • Love this song! Petula Clark had so many great hits... but this is my favorite!

And yes....music like this is a rarity today!

  • simply beautiful! Love her vocals and music.

  • What good looking girl She was then.....WOW!!

  • I really miss the days of Beautiful music and summer love. I wounder if the the kids of today will hear a song when they're 60 and remember the days when they were young

  • @brad04970 I doubt it brad. There really isn't anything in today's music that will be worth remembering 40 years from now, IMO.

  • @kismet818 Hi Kismet your right, i can hear a song i remember Cu- Chi Vietnam, Music was my life blood. i still stuck in the 60's music.. see Ya

  • im onli 18 and i love this song <3

  • Petulia Clark had more popular songs, but this one is my all-time favorite! The perfect pop song!! Love it!!

  • Heard this on an advertisment..rang a bell..with goosepimples...classic..!

  • One of the classiest and prettiest girls to ever record. Love this song Thanks for the post.

  • Timeless classic from a very talented lady. Hearing Petula brings back many memories of the 1960's, when pop music was meaningful, beautiful ballads- not the unruly mess it is today. Petula, you definitely shine and could teach the current pop music quite a few things!

  • great classic big on the northern soul scene as well

  • Thank you YT and grateful to mmgclpta for this clip. The 60s were memorable for a variety of reasons, Petula was one of them. Chills listening to her effortless delivery.

  • I love this song, very talented woman, beautiful voice not a single sign of strain reaching the high notes, most modern day singers show the veins popping out of thier foreheads and necks but petula.

  • I love this song and, even more, I love Petula Clark. This song brings so many good memories! Suffice to say, when I first heard and learned about her, I had recently come on a student visa to California. I did not know a word of english, was eleven years old, was in a "military school," that was more of a reform school than anything else. I coped and survived. This song, her voice, seemed like an oasis of clearness, of love, of happiness. I'm a defense atty. now. Love this song!

  • Looks like a young Peter Lawford she's singing to....

  • @centralparocker Not Peter Lawford LOL! It's Sacha Distel, the French singing star and a close friend of hers......from a longer version that I have seen, my assumption was that Petula was in a London studio and the performance was being fed into Sacha's TV show, which was presumably being broadcast from Paris. I think that they spoke to each other in French, at least in part. Petula has spent much of her life in France and her French is excellent.

  • @Idolator45 Actually, I know it's Sacha....I said 'looks like a young Peter Lawford.'....In earlier comments made well over a year ago, I do mention Sacha's name....glad I gave you good laugh though....Vive le Tour de France!!!!

  • @centralparocker Well you should have said "Sacha looks like a young Peter Lawford." to avoid confusion for Johnny Come Latelys like me LOL!! Vive La France indeed!!!

  • @tjamassey

You're joking right? If not, you're clueless.

  • had to say goodbye to a love and couldnt live without his love great song

  • What a great song....produced by the great one....

  • forever alone ;__;

  • shes great!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love Her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She may be best known for "Downtown", but this song pulls at my heart more. For love and what I've left behind , and the chances at love that I've lost, thanks for the memory Pet.

I still love the woman I left behind, and you for the sweet memories.

For Rose, if you see this, I still love you and always will.

    John

  • Petula is great. She always sings right from the heart. What a talent !

  • She just owned the stage.

  • She started as a child star/singer in England, before she came over here(USA).

  • love the video... except for the dork that they just haaaaaad to pan to in the middle... ugh!

  • @BleedBNG no! He was great

  • pets songs make the gay community think of what a hard world we had. she made us think, like she was singing for us especially when you listen to the words because we had to hide. like i know a place, don't sleep in the subway, i couldn't live without your love, and so on. i hpoe petula that you know this and thank you for your support.

  • Perfect

  • wow, how beautiful!!

  • britney, gaga and all the rest you can try but this is what you all should be trying for perfection ten out of ten.

  • It builds and builds... what a song !!

  • A very Classy Lady ..

  • Petula Clark is as good as it gets!

  • Easily my all time favorite female vocalist.........such a class act........indeed!

  • Petula, you're.....................Gorgeous !

  • Man this chick grabs me by the heart!

  • Im feeling really down today and this song always lifts me up..x

  • Wow...she is so cute!

  • @1933goudey

I second that emotion! SUCH an adorable lady...and SUCH a gifted singer! Strictly from wowsville, daddy-O! If she was any more cool, she'd be frozen! :-)

  • Bless You Pet!

  • I love Petula and all her songs, but this is probably my favorite of all. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • What a treat! Thanks for posting it.

  • Class act Petula Clark, great voice, could sing live anywhere. The Beatles were one of her supporting artists in their ealy days

  • she sang this with passion and danced as they all did in the 60s great days

  • come on pet, you are still the best. , wonderful rendition..

  • good old petula,if u r feelin down, just listen and sing along, soon on the upppp

  • Classy lady...always has been!!!

  • Adorable! (Even if she is lip syncing!)

  • She was the perfect singer for hatch's songs. An age before cynicism

  • @mhpjo Agreed. I also think Hatch and Trench are very underrated songwriters.

  • This was a show in France hosted by Sasha Distell. She spent a lot of time in France and spoke french. She appeared on his show and later he appeared on her show.

  • You were hot, sexy, beautiful, and talented then, you're hot, sexy, beautiful, and talented now. Your songs are timeless and beautiful. I loved you then and I love you now and I'll always love you.

  • @goodoldvideos right, the best performer in the world.

  • One of her best!

  • i love this............

  • I met her after her concert in La Mirada, Ca. 2005 and her voice was strong and performance incredible at age 73! Love the way she annunciates the word "demanding" in her Brit accent , so sexy. This song has become her finale, as a tradition in her live performances. I managed to get a handshake and an autograph here in So. Ca. without having to cross the "pond".

  • This is the best...the guy is cute too:-)

  • @rutherose23 The cute guy is Sacha Distel.

  • Love this song! I'm 13 years old and have always loved the songs and movies of the 50s - 90s. I really wish there were songs like this now instead of the so called music they publish today. Thnx 4 posting!

  • @Tiffanysattic97 Good for you. Shows you have an open mind, and taste.

  • BRILLIANT SUPERB

  • Amazing and no wardrobe malfunction- just pure class. My era of music is the best.

  • @rjtoom1958 you are soooo right. but, the stoned f••king "flower generation" had to destroy it all. look what we got today?? rappers and crappers, fat asses and perverts....

  • @hotboyclarence Well said.

  • Great stuff

  • Never given the credit she deserved, brilliant!

  • Sasha Distell

  • Who's the handsome guy blowing a kiss to Patula? Maybe the host of the show this video was taken from???

  • Dear Jndineh:

Funny you should mention KOMA in your blurb below as I am writing a short story about the 60's where that radio station plays a key role in the story. What I remember about KOMA was that it had a lot of wattage and could be picked up all the way in North Dakota due to how flat the Great Plains were with no obstacle s to bar such transmissions such as mountains, etc. Funny, I was writing about KMOA just today (7-31-2010). Talk about Karma!

  • Great song sung by one very classy lady!!

  • I love Petula Clark and I love this song. Heck, I love all her songs. The finger snapping beat at the beginning is really cool. I love it!

  • That guy looks like Peter Lawford!!!....what a great song!!!!

  • Ahead of her time. She sold 20 million records in Europe before coming to the u.s. and recording Downtown with Tony Hatch.

  • There are no gimmicks here. Just wholesomeness and sheer talent!

  • This song takes me back to 60's when I was a youngster. The local radio station went off the air at sunset so my parents had the radio set to KOMA out of Oklahoma City and I would hear this song.

  • This is the video from a french TV show sync'ed with the record. I just posted my old version (with kind of messed up video) that has her live singing voice. Check it out. I actually prefer the live not-quite-so-perfect version. Cheers!!

    [usual youtube url]/watch?v=FXTfKLKD9TE

  • What a voice! Right up there with the best of the best. I've been listening to Petula since she hit the charts, and she still gets to me...

  • This is without doubt one of my all-time favorite songs. As Peterzang noted below, "the ascending chords bring you up and you're suddenly ecstatic!" In other words, the music perfectly mimics and enhances the wonderful up-beat lyrics that speak of being in love. Also, Petula Clark is nothing short of wonderful. I love the way that she delivers the song, her gestures and her little dance are fantastic!

  • thank God for utube we can watch this precious thing

  • Thanks for posting, super performance!

  • great song timeless

  • wow i love her shit so much ...................i have to find some more if i check out her waste pipes

  • Thank You for contributing this video. Petula was one of my first inspirations.

  • thanks for uploading this video not only is it a beautiful song so is Petula Clark singing what as I class as her best song ever

  • She is so classy. Proof that a talented women does not have to take her clothes off to sell a record. Love the little dance as well ..

  • feelgood song! timeless!

  • I love those ascending chords. The song pulls you up and you're suddenly ecstatic.Songwriters should try that today

  • Tony hatch brilliant songwriter! pet clark perfect voice.... timeless song!

  • @youngy30 Well I HATE the theme song to Neighbous but you are right, he was a freaking genius. Clark has the most extraordinary voice,

  • My theory is that Pet is a robot.

  • everyone thinks all of the Kennedy's are robots too (except Joan of course). So whats your point?

  • What a talented and sexy woman. Hard to find great talent like here today in the music industry.

  • @pengerk People don't dig this scene any more man...

  • @tjamassey SPEAK FOR YOURSELF!!!!! your not everyone's mouthpiece.

  • @tjamassey man I know man what you mean man .Peolple man just don't man get it anymore man .Man you know man.You got no brains for talent man ,Do you man you low grade moron, man.

  • @tjamassey You are dead wrong; millions of people around the world love the music of artists like Petula Clark, Connie Francis, Lesley Gore, Nancy Sinatra, & many more. The disastrous decline in record sales of the current degenerate & depressing ghetto-inspired "pop" music proves the point. Folks don't want to come home from work & listen to hip-hop grunting about whores, drug deals, & shooting cops. You are posting in defended territory, kiddo.

  • @tjamassey ...I SERIOUSLY hope you are joking.

  • @pengerk Yes she was sexy, all the while being classy and a lady.

  • This video clip was originally uploaded by me, I overdubbed the video, syched it up using Sony Vegas 9 professional software.

Broadcast by the Italian TV channel called Jimmy the show was actually French (1966) called "The Sacha Distel Show".

You will see my original youtube user name watermarked near the end of the video clip.

  • @kisumunic If that's true. Good on you man. Classic

  • This is my favorite recorded song of all time by my favorite singer of all time.

She is lip singing this and she NAILS it to perfection. What a fantastic performer.

  • Try lipsyncing 'Hey Judy' that's hard

  • Classy song, beautiful woman

  • I just love the way she needs to turn away from the guy who is blowing kisses at her, I think she was about to laugh and had to turn to regain her composure. Quite cute!

  • Class performance --as are all her songs. Always clarity to her voice. Petula belongs in a special Hall of Fame. There has never been anyone who sings like she does.

  • Comment removed

  • You don't often meet anyone called, Petula.

  • so sweet and touching, this needs to be back again.

  • Happy birthday Petula

  • Love it xxxx

  • as always, wonderful. Petula was called "England's Shirley Temple" for a reason!

  • Please - Please....restore the live recording audio to this song....it was more beautiful than this recording...watching her singing this live was so moving. This is the voice over,

  • Sexy as hell without trying to be. Thats what a truly beautiful woman can do. Total class.

  • I agree with Rutlander .its the song Oliver

  • she is so good to watch, minimal movement equals minimal effect unlike todays young ladies who have to jump all over the place aggressively . Does for me !

  • I think that this video must be from a 'variety type' show hosted by Sacha Distel (the 'gorgeous man in minute 1:50) - if you do a google search on him, you'll see more info on his life, and i think he had a t.v. show.

  • thank you for sharing this video - it's so great - it was on a few years ago and then i couldn't find it....LOVE minute 1:50 - that man is SO GORGEOUS!!! I think he was a French singer, who died much too early in life - he is so handsome I think :)

  • This is awesome TV footage. A beautiful woman singing a beautiful song! Life doesn't get much better. Many thanks for posting this! :)

  • im 50 and she has always been my favorite this song really brings me back God bless you Pet

  • and she STILL looks amazing! Bless ol Pet!

  • brilliant thanks for posting

  • Never heard this song before Cesar Dogfood started using it for a TV commercial. Super stuff though and I agree with all the comments below!

I'm just wondering, does anyone know the name of the TV show this clip is taken from?

  • Warriorking they play this near the end of most of the Wife Swap

  • good song, makes you all happy and dancey this song does :)

  • same ere, makes ya happy when ya abit down, good old petula, one of the best

  • Comment removed

  • What a marvelous video...Petula is such a delight to hear & see...a happy, upbeat song- thanks for posting...

  • I was 13 years old when this song hit the radio. I remember being in my friend's parents' car, and we were talking about something...when this song came on the radio, I stopped talking and listened without saying another word until it was over. I went out the next day and bought the 45 single. What a great talent, I wish that I could relive that period in time!!

  • Same age, same experience, same wish.

  • Wonderful! You can't feel anything but happy when you hear this song and it brings back great memories. Thanks!

  • Thank You, Thank You, Thank You ! They don't make like this anymore. Just a true treasure. Voice, Beauty and so clean in her deleivery and style. Mark

  • ......a simply wonderful vocal performance by Pet Clark......with Tony Hatch and his Orchestra providing arrangement

and instrumental musical accompaniment........just listen between 1:51 and 2:06......sublime.......thus allowing Pet to nail the song with just the right amount of emotion and attitudinal vocal perfection............

..........une exécution vocale joyeux merveilleuse avec sacha dans le studio, il des yeux de scintillement, beaucoup manqué...mille mercis à vous.......

  • yes thank you for posting this song. love to see her singing it in person

  • pet et le beau Sacha Distel...Magique
