  • Discovery Zone...Funcoland....Nickelodeon

  • @SkottBot Funcoland.... the grandpappy to GameStop... i wanted to go there SO BAD... cause i didnt kno what it was... i was only 3ish...

  • for us 90s kids, there should be places around that were awesome when we were kids re-opened and revamped to fit us 20-somethings!

  • Fuck Skyrim. DZ is where you had TRUE fun.

  • I miss DZ :(

  • I always wanted to go to DZ when I was a kid. Problem was the nearest one was in Louisville, Kentucky, which was about 90 miles away. We were better off just going to Six Flags and make it worth the trip.

  • i love this place

  • LOVED this place as a kid!

  • man im glad i was a kid during these times, i feel sorry for the kids growing up today smh .

  • man thoses were the days....

  • Those accidents may include getting trampled, stuck, caught, or injured by the equipment, hanging or dangling from the equipment or being afraid to climb down from high places.

  • Discovery Zone closed down in the mid to late 1990s due to bankruptcy. Some people thought it wasn't really considered safe for kids anymore because there may have been times where kids might have had accidents while playing on the equipment.

  • @mtrezise7 Oh trust me, the kids definitely had "accidents."

  • They don't have discovery zones anymore.

  • I had a birthday party there and i got trampled on in the ball pit

  • I still have a token from the games there :)

  • I'm 18. I miss places like this. I never got to go to a Discovery Zone, but I do know a place with a GIANT playscape similar to this (that they don't allow people ages 13 and up to go into). There needs to to be a Discovery Zone for adults. Those places are AWESOME!!

  • THis commercial was the reason i wanted to go DZ, i was such a nick fanboy back in the day.

  • go to rebecca school !!!!!!!!

  • I totally remenber that commercial, I even use to own that Nick Activity book. Which I remenber I got it before the first episodes of Rocko & Real Monster aired on Nick. Which were new cartoons back then. This commercial shows it's age since back then was when Nick started to have more of their own cartoons than the Canadian & UK cartoons they had before hand. But, yeah that place was the best thing to visit as a kid. I feel bad that kids today are growing up withouth a DZ.

  • When did this place go out of business? Wish it was still around, semms like a 1990's style place..

  • I remember going to a DZ in the mall back in Virginia or Florida and remember crying when I saw that it closed down. :( If there was any way that I could reopen the places up, I would do it and get a few other people to help me when I get older. It'd be a bigger and better DZ with all this and much more. Chuck e Cheese is nothing compared to DZ.

  • I used to have all my birthday parties here when I was really young. this place brings back so many memories. :(

  • What ever happen to DZ, and Pair apple county Fair, if you don't know what that is look it up.

  • in the netherlands there are indoor playgrounds better than discovery zone type in ballorig and it is much better than discovery zone!!!!!!!

  • I loved this place! Even though most of my trips there ended with a busted pair of glasses, busted lip, black eye once, hair caught in the roller slide, pushed by other kids, etc...

Good times..I'm 21 and would pay big bucks just for the privilege of running around in one of these one last time.

  • @aomtr333 That's what led to them shutting down-kids got hurt, parents sued, and Discovery Zone was sentenced to paying the families that much money that they didn't have the money to stay open.

  • @pastdweller

Ah..now I feel bad...but thankfully my parents never sought any legal action against them. In fact, they'd blame my clumsiness...

  • @aomtr333 YOU IS NOT LYIN... SAME HERE AND IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!

  • @aomtr333

    same here. :)

  • This was THE commercial that made me want to go DZ. i just wanted nickelodeon merch cuz i was such a fanboy at the time.

  • Screw you, Chuck E. Cheese. SCREW YOU

  • Hell, I'd love to have my 23erd b-day there!!! I only got to go here maybe ONCE as a kid. This place kicked ass!!!

  • Too bad the tubes would always smell like stale farts.

  • its like a kid's six flags!

  • I recalled that Chuck E. Cheese's bought out DZ in the end

  • no more of those jungle gyms its now inflatables

  • I used to work for the Simi Valley Discovery Zone. It was a lot of fun working there. It was my first job. Also I met a beautiful woman who even came to my birthday.

I eventually found out she ended up becoming a Bimbo later on. Oh well.......

  • WHY are they not around anymore?!?!

  • i miss the awesomeness of my childhood.. my DZ is now PF (Planet Fitness). Hmm, discovery zone, indeed.

  • DZ was epic. i went with family a few times and once at a kids birthday. there was always some barf somewhere in the tunnels smelling terrible. we would find quarters in the bottoms of arcades. dirty but not as trashy as some of the old skating rinks i would go during the era

  • who are the 2 asshole that did NOT like DZ? They're probably morbidly obese or had no friends to go with to DZ

  • This kind of brings a tear to the eye.....

  • Comment removed

  • God damn. I have photos of me as a child climbing up on the pyramid they would have in the middle of the ball pit.

    BAWLINNNNNNN.

Kids would get their lip rolled up and busted in the roller slide... they don't make'em like that anymore. Good times

  • @Lunasakuramoon That's why you don't see playplaces like this very often anymore-kids got hurt, parents sued, the Discovery Zone had to pay a lot of money to the parents, and lost the necessary money to stay open. So they had to close.

  • Man I used to love this place, how cool things were back in the day!!!! The DZ in my neighborhood was turned into a furniture store...boring! I wish I had a time machine :/

  • @fanaddict Mine was turned into a music store. But that's just as well, 'cuz I didn't go there too much.

  • It was fun until you went through the tube which some kid puked or pissed in

  • I used to work at DZ!!! Anyone one on here ever go to the DZ in Jax,FL?

  • Discovery Zone was the bomb. Thats was me and my dad's going out place when I was a little girl. Loved it. man i miss the 90's

  • I fucking LOVED this place!

  • I just nostalgia'd so hard. I remember my grandpa taking my sister and i to this one near me back in the mid 90's. I don't remember it that well because i was only like 4-5 at the time but i remember the slurpees and fun! i miss this place so much!

  • oh my god, the nostalgia just hit me like a ton of bricks.

  • i rember dz then it closed down... i went there like once or twice cuz supposedly we culdnt afford goen there... it was really fun

  • anyone remember that Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog event they had before they closed down? that was awesome!

  • @UltimaDragoon817

YESSS i remember it being there RIGHT before it shut down... holy crap >.<

  • @XzXAxelXzX I know right? I loved the crossbow training!

  • Why did they shut it down? i loved this place! :(

  • @Bianka288 Because of all the lawsuits about kids playing and getting hurt.

  • my old dz in nyc is now called "funtopia".... almost same shit... arcades laser and stuff but now it has bumper cars and bowling area... but the playground has been greatly reduced, and the huge tunnel area used to be the greatest part.... bring back DZ!

  • Too bad DZ is gone :(

  • 1990 was 10 years ago, feels bad man...

  • @ColostomyCannibal ] 20 you mean ? 2001 was 10 years ago.

  • We need a DZ for adults.

  • God I miss Discovery Zone! That mountain-climbing mat was epic! I loved flipping off the top of that thing! The games were alot of fun, but man oh MAN that ball pit and activity center was my place!!!

  • this video is my childhood.

  • Part of the reason DZ closed was that Burger King and McDonalds started putting playgrounds in their restaurants, and parents weren't willing to pay to take their kids to DZ if the playgrounds at the other places were free.

  • I used to go there all the time when I was in kindergarten all through 4th grade! I had dreams about visiting a DZ deep in the forest, which was weird, and would always hang out with Looney Tunes characters, Sonic, Tails, Lemmings and the Ninja Turtles!

Beats the crap out of Suck E. Cheeses with its horrible creepy puppets, cardboard crap pizza and sexual pedophiles lurking at the edges of the ball pits. I wanted to mess up the machinery and make the puppets blow up or malfunction back then.

  • @XxGuardianKnightxX I love everything you said there, I feel just the same.x3 DZ is way better than Chuck E and all that rulez! Damn I miss my childhood.

  • my brothers always went there i was so pissed when i saw pictures of it and told it was closed

  • ohhhh good times! now everybody just sues eachother! ohhhh hold back the tears hold em back.

  • Brings back memories! :)

  • I remember going to DZ on my third grade field trip! It was awesome, I loved it. I think they went out of business years ago.

  • Ah, the good o' 90's :)

  • they used to have a discovery zone near me intill it closed in 1999 or 2000 then it became a wine shop

  • @celticsmom711 The one that I went to became a furniture shop.

  • I'm 21 years old, but I still want to HOP IN THAT FRIKIN' BALL PIT!!!!!!

  • @BJtheBassist dude! i love ball pits! im 17 and my friend and i found one playplace last week and it had a ball pit! we had to pay to play in it but we snuck in and jumped in it. i miss ball pits!

  • nostalgia!

  • Discovery Zone... used to go there all the time in the 90s. This commercial had to be from around 95' or 96'.

  • the one in jacksonville got replaced with a freakin' hardware store. man, was i pissed.

  • WHY DID IT LEAVE! i remember going to discovery zone and it was going away.... it was library!

  • bdays at DZ rock it is still open?

  • I had my 10th Birthday party at DZ's, dude that was like 1998.

  • I used to go there with their ballpit, ballpit, and laser game that starts with MiB, and then Godzilla TAS, but it got teared down, and got replaced with a sh*tty Fitness Center, just like Romparound.

  • Damn it where is my nickolodeon activity book!

  • I was in 10th grade in 1996 and was Hired at a DZ in Everett , Wa. This is back when the Power Rangers was popular. Got to wear really cool slippers and Warmup pants and red or striped shirts!! I miss that plac!

  • @nicofaruchi30 The Discovery Zone in Everett was the 1 I went to! DZ was the ultimate indoor paradise!!! Do you happen to know what that Discovery Zone might be now? I remember it still being an abandoned building back in 2002, more than 3 years after it closed.

  • i remember going there lol it was fun... rocko's modern life was such a weird show...

  • I only ever remember going here with my ex-stepmoms day care and because she was a super King Kamehameha Bitch, I was never allowed to do anything... Had to sit there and watch all the other kids having fun... I dispise that bitch still to this day...

  • Discovery Zone was fucking awesome. I remember when they came out with laser tag. Everyone had their birthday party there. Damn I miss it...I'm 19 but if Discovery Zone ever came back I'd be the first one there

  • lmao, if it ever came back, the first day would be nothing but adults our age and their kids!

  • damn dz was the shit.

  • THAT ZIPLINE WAS AMAZING

  • This whole video is a grab bag of nostalgia.

  • I use to love this place, until it went bankrupt and that was a sad day.

  • some back in the day shit

  • DZ Discovery Zone shitt bricks on Chuck E Cheese... I had two bdays there. lol

  • is ren and stimpy really appropriate 4 kids?

  • @sharky5921 Yes, yes it was...

  • my kindergarten birthday party was there. I'm old :(

  • than if we bring Dz back more and more people our age would be going and half would be kids today looool :-)

  • I'm glad I got a chance to go to DZ.This commerical brought back so many memories

  • me2

  • OMG IDEA! To everybody who loves DZ Dicovery Zone, let's all put our money together and bring DZ BACK! I think I have $200 dollars in my bank account. Hbu guys?? LET'S DO IT!!!!

  • fitness center replaced Dz were i lived :-(

  • Well, Discovery Zone could probably make kids less fat. It gets them active after all. So I guess DZ could be a fitness center of sorts.

  • @CrazyCheeseMagee yea you're about right bud, but unfortnately according to the health nazis it's considered a "germ pit" cuz and face it...those playplaces get pretty nasty, but if they had more places like that we'd have less obesity cuz they's actually moving around for once

  • @FullmetalninjaDR That's one thing I don't get. On the one hand, we want our kids not to be fat. On the other, we have a freakish obsession with keeping our children safe, so we coop them up in our houses in order to protect them from child abductors, and we get rid of games like dodge ball for supposedly promoting bullying. I say we let kids be kids again and let them scrape their knees, go on adventures, and maybe get into a bit of trouble.

  • @CrazyCheeseMagee yea well that's just the way things are these days, i can remember 12 years ago, I was 8....I didn't have time for videogames I was too busy running around in the woods, swimming, and doing dumb things that were fun at the time.....it was fun and my folks didn't stop me, it was being active

  • @FullmetalninjaDR Well, back then, I didn't really play video games, but I watched people play Pokemon all the time. I remember I read a lot of books, where I probably learned about 90% of the stuff I knew back then. I also went to the park and rode my bike and played Frisbee. Even today, I don't play a lot of video games, even though I've become a lot more interested in them. It's amazing what life was like before the internet became so popular.

  • @CrazyCheeseMagee indeed you are correct, I'm still running around today, unfortunately I have epilepsy so I can't drive, so I either gotta take the shoelace express or bike(my friend got put in prison so I have her bike full-time now) so I'm mostly fit, I wish I could run farther than I can now, but I learned to be active from an early and it's a habit that I will have to enforce on my kids when and if I decide to have them....and I believe all parents, should make kids be active no matter what

  • @FullmetalninjaDR Yes. I really should get The Dangerous Book for Boys, which has a long list of things that boys used to know, but apparently don't anymore because of technology. Also, each parent should consult it. I also swam for years in school, and I'm glad my college has an Olympic sized swimming pool. Also, I don't drive, and I never got a driver's license because where I'm from, no one drives; we take the subway and bus. (Unless they live in Staten Island or something.)

  • @CrazyCheeseMagee either they bring it back or build wall E

  • @ArabicGurl12 OMG so was mine!!! Do you live in Michigan?

  • exactly, remember that big slide that fell into the pit of balls? lol that sounds so wrong now as an adult, but then it was fun!

  • -crying- I MISS DISCOVERY ZONE SO MUCH! My favorite thing was those little rolly raimbow things that rolled and made noise when you walked across them and i miss the squishy mats. :( Fuck chuck e cheese!

  • Oh gosh this makes me wanna cry

  • watching this video, brings back a lot of good memories, memories of happiness only a child could share..Why did they shut down anyway?

  • they over expanded, like krispy kreme doughnuts. so sad. :(

  • Man, I remember Discovery Zone like yesterday. So many visits for parties and as special treats. I remember the games they held by DZ staff, one was to see who could eat their banana popsicles, i won some sort of prize. The world was changing so fast in the mid early-mid 1990's, but I only know of scaling DZ's sprawling mazes with my best friend, and climbing on to the outside of the tunnels slides and netting, getting bitched at by staff members and running back inside. Haha... :*(

  • hi guys i was born in 1998 so i gusse i was born when DZ was collpapsing but my older bro says they were really fun so can somone tell me about how DZ was and what it had?

  • @tutenkhamen19 If you're familiar w/ Chuck e' Cheese's, then DZ was almost similar to that but w/ cooler rides and stuff to do. Plus, I think you had to pay to get into DZ but that's how awesome it was ;D I havent been to Chuck E' Cheese's in forever so I dunno if you have to pay to get into those nowadays. But anyway! DZ was like an arcade and epic playground all under one roof. You could eat there, chill, play games and just have a blast til ur parents were tired and it was time to go home grr

  • Chuckie Cheese's doesn't even come close to DZ! DZ is a zillion times better than ghetto ass chuckie e. cheeses lol!

  • LoL Yeah, that's why I said DZ was cooler and had more of an epic play area XD I grew up w/ Chuck E Cheese's first but when DZ came around, it was my new fave place to go! I wish it was still around LmAo

  • Me and my friends were about 11 years old (6th grade) in the mid 90s and it was THE ULTIMATE JUNGLE GYM (2 & 1/2 stories high!). You could crawl through a maze of tubes and go to: a ball pit, mountain climbing, climbing over nets that were hung at the ceiling, go through several slides. The maze was so BIG that kids could actually get LOST! There was also an arcade 3x bigger than Chuck E' Cheese's!

I feel bad for you guys who missed out!

  • OMG I miss this place soooo much! You see this is why kids today are so FAT! Because they didn't have a DZ Discovery Zone!!!!!

  • i used to go here everyday back in the day

  • @SDCHARGERS619 my bad. every friday*

  • I still resent my parents for taking me there only twice. I could have gone every day, thanks. I still would go =(

  • God, this place was awesome. Why do we have to lose everything great?

  • shit! this is what I missed!

  • omg... so many memories!! to bad they went bankrupt :'(

  • ffffffffffffff

    I nostalgia'd so hard.

I remember wanting to go to this place when I was a kid. And I think I've only went 2 times after they closed down the one here because some kid suffocated in one of the playhouses.

  • omg DZ Discovery Zone AND Nicktoons?

    fucking nostalgia attack

  • Why did they all close down anyway? There was one big one in edmonton and it was ALWAYS packed and busy.

  • Bankrupt :(

  • the dz in my town is now a shitty chuckie cheese. FUCK YOU CHUCKIE!!!!!

  • Mine's this hospital place or something near Toys R Us. :(

  • Mine's a shitty mexican restaurant that gave me diarrhea. :(

  • I LOVED going there when I was a kid!

  • I feel kinda bad, I don't remember these places at all.

I know that when I was a kid I loved them, and I still have a little bean bag with the logo from there, but I just have no memories at all.

Maybe I was just too young...

  • GOD now i feel old i loved that place

  • It's been 11-12 years since I been there. xD

  • I went there when I was ten and got some free Power Rangers cards with challenges on the back of them, I wonder if they're still around?

  • Comment removed

  • I meant mine I wonder if they were kept or not I so badly wanted to get all of them but I only had four at the time.

  • lkjhb1-their pizza was delicious! If it still existed,I would go there to this day!

  • I wish I could have gone there, it looks so fun!

  • im watching a video from 10 years ago when i was 7 :'), im in ball's pool

  • Wut happened 2 DZ? We use 2 go here all da time. They dont have fun places like this anymore. all we have iz Chuck E. Cheese.

  • I went to the DZ in Greece, NY when I was a kid. I stopped going there when some woman dragged me out of the ball area and tried to kidnap me. A couple of years later, DZ closed.

  • I remember this place the in door gerbil maze thing was so big i used to get lost in it and they also have laser tag and giant trampolines and a bunch of awesome other things they also had a zip line that i was scared to go on it was like jumping off of a building i still have video taps of birthday parties i had there that was the kewlest place ever if it was open I'd still go there even thou i'm a teenager lol i don't care

  • I got Coxsackie Virus from this place that was the first and last time my mom took me there

  • LOL, I looked at what the virus was in Wikipedia and it says its commonly transmitted from the rectal-oral route.

LOL, not surprising since so many kids were there and how many of them really wash their hands?!? I mean not even some adults do after using the bathroom.

That reminds me of so many rumors involved with that place! One of the many was that since the maze was SO BIG (2.5 stories high!), some kids would be lost in there and actually do bathroom business in there! LOL

  • @wxyzdetroit Yeah, I remember talking to this girl online who had a babysitter back in '95 or so who worked at DZ and used to bitch about ONE particular kid that ALWAYS peed down the slide and into the ball pit when he'd be there. I don't remember how she said they dealt with it; I think the family just stopped going there after a while.

  • This place was awesome when my sister and I were kids in the 90s. We always begged our parents to go there during the weekends and have parties, magic shows, arcades, and such. Good thing they brought a home video camera to record it all and we still have those tapes. I still have the WWF poster the employees gave out at participating places when you leave and it's still in good condition. Damn, I miss the good old days of the 90s.

  • Comment removed

  • My favorite part was the name itself... those are my initials

  • There used to be one here, but it closed in like 2000 or somethng. But it was so fun!!

  • I haven't been to DZ in like 12 years, yet I still remember it and all its kickass glory.

  • Comment removed

  • :( That sucks.

  • Most DZ were closed at 1999 (on Wikpedia). I'm not sure if you would have appreciated at much being only one year old. You had to be at least 4-5 years old to really enjoy it.

Because of that, DZ is more of Generation Y experience.

  • They don't have cool places like this anymore. That's why kids these days are so fat. :(

  • Men in Black game was my favorite thing ever! Also met Deion Sanders and played with his kids at DZ.. Loved that place when I was a kid.

  • No matter how hard I tried, I could never climb that thing in the ball pit.
