  • i am from serbia.heard a number of performances of this song and while i can't express the Irish emotion i can certainly feel it and i think Luke expresses the most emotions while singing this song and therefore is the best performer of Rocky road to Dublin in my opinion.cheers to all Irish folks from serbia.

  • @leonprof100 i'm from italy, and i totally agree with you

  • somehow, you guys gotta persuade Pepper Keenan to sing at least one traditional song in a Dublin pub!

  • hi, do you have an approximate date of this recording??? xxxxxxxxxx

  • Is it just me or does Luke sound very odd here?? If it wasn't for the Dub accent I'd barely have recognised it as Luke at all. Maybe he was afraid he'd bury Liam if he sang at full volume?

  • two genius together what can you say brilliant

  • BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. REST IN PEACE GENTLEMEN. THEY WILL BE MISSED ALWAYS.

  • the 2 ...and only Luke and Liam and one other person who can pull off this song ..F O"Byrne...my hat is off to you all

  • Luke Kelly owns this song - and when he joins in the chorus he just "kills" Liam. Luke Kelly - LEGEND!

  • @suzimeg1 They are both legends!

  • Where did he have time to take a breath??

  • Two legends together. RIP lads.

  • The irish don't talk..they open their mouths an angels fly out. :)

  • nice tempo - can actually make it a bit easier to singin some passages

  • Needs a bit of bodhran. Awesome stuff, although like the other comments, I wish Luke Kelly could have got a verse in.

  • @hrabnya I think Luke isn't singing on this but it's .. Tommy Makem on the chorus... ye can hear the Keady accent coming through big time....

  • @malachy1847 No, it's definitely Luke. Tommy Makem had a more pronounced vibrato in his voice and the chorus is sung more in Luke Kelly's style than Makem's. Beyond that it sounds more like Kelly than Makem, the CD that it's from clearly lists Luke Kelly as the second singer.

  • @malachy1847 Haha where do you hear the Keady accent?? Pure Dublin

  • @tony10396861 Just fan of all three and i was very lucky to see them at their best. maybe they are up above Singing this song .well that's if ye believe in the 'up above'.you may be right, as no one would have bothered Uploading same to get the Singers Wrong Check out 'The Rocky Road to Dublin.. the Film up on Youtube or maybe buy a copy of this DVD on Amazon..Shows how Folk Music Liberates That Generation,It also shows up the 'Class' drive Hypocisy of those times of the Sixties.......

  • great song great men RIP

  • Gone but not forgetten. God rest the boys.

  • All right! this is sherlock holmes' fight theme.

  • @kalivala spa :)

  • Class

  • top tune up the boys

  • 2 Legends.Their music will live on forever. They will be missed. RIP Liam 'n' Luke.

    5+

  • Two greats now both gone. Liam Clancy RIP

  • "They had started singing around the pub circuit in New York where they met and influenced a young Bob Dylan"

Dylan said Clancy "was just the best ballad singer I ever heard in my life".

    nuff said

    r.i.p Liam.

  • 2 HERO RIP

  • a honest attemp by liam but he only proves that luke was the only man to do this song justice.

  • Wrong. Paddy Reilly does a great job too. Ever hear the version by Liam from 1987? Best version without a doubt it the 1987 version. The High Kings also do a great version too.

  • wish luke would sing the verses with liam too

  • 6 STARS

  • Bob Dylan was quoted as saying, "I have never heard a singer as good as Liam, ever. He was just the best ballad singer I'd ever heard in my life. Still is, probably." Not that Dylan is the end jury nor do I love the Chieftans, Makem or that ilk of Irish stuff, but Liam, by himself, was quite effective.

...However, I do like a "drop of the pure".

  • Huge compliment coming from Dylan, who was a poet, singer, songwriter, artist, author, proud parent, musician and he was brilliant in asking the question, but never claiming to know the answer. That was the style Socrates used and always emerged the wiser having claimed he did not know. Liam Clancy and Luke Kelly are remarkable as our the vast majority of Irish. A bit like Dylan & Socrates, except the Irish emerge the wisest of them all, offering several answers claiming one may be right :)

  • i love it it has a nice beat to it

  • totally superb

  • luke is better!

  • this is what happens when legends cloddied

  • yes, because thats a word, lol ;)

  • Ard - point taken! Do you know why Luke featured on only the one track?

Apologies for continually picking your brains.

  • lol:) thanks for your kind words and good luck finding the album! But please note that this is the only song to feature Luke, all the rest is Liam Clancy, so only search if you like his music too.

  • What an absolute *star* you are, Ard. Thanks a lot! Truly, truly grateful. Going at this rate, I will be due you a few drams!!

    Now for another album search.

  • Ard.... how do you do it? Where did you find this one?

Most grateful for any information you can impart.

Many thanks - as always!! :o)

  • Thanks, it took me a while to find this. It's one Liam Clancy's album:

Liam Clancy - Yes, Those Were The Days / The Essential Liam Clancy.

  • Would you be so kind as to upload "Those were the days" by Liam Clancy? It was removed, and it would love to hear that song once again.

  • two greate singers

  • Priceless!!!!

  • they should have alternate

  • OH MY GOD...... 5 STAR

  • two of my favorite singers, I agree with you on that Luke should have sung more that would have been awesome!
