I don't really get it... does this mean that the computer shows a patern in the painting? or is this just an example of how images look like when they decay

Think of it as an analogy. The painting is your computer's memory (which could include websites, passwords, personal identification, etc)

This is the speed at which that data will decay if stored in unpowered DRAM.
