@bigbob07087 acctualy the rules got changed a few years back, retirees and ,military personnel in civilian clothing can render a hand salute if they so desire

It may be charming for little kids, but it is still improper and shouldn't be encouraged with older children. (fmr E-5 USAR)

@hobbie4 It's showing respect, and you don't earn a courtesy, a courtesy is something given, nobody said you have to salute them back, but you aren't going to stop them from saluting you.
