@hobbie4 It's showing respect, and you don't earn a courtesy, a courtesy is something given, nobody said you have to salute them back, but you aren't going to stop them from saluting you.

@bigbob07087 Children (any civilian) can salute anyway they want to, hand over heart or render a military salute. Active duty air force.

@JoeGuitarGuy No, I have to disagree as civilians who are not retired/prior service have not EARNED that courtesy, Joe.
It may be charming for little kids, but it is still improper and shouldn't be encouraged with older children. (fmr E-5 USAR)
