I hope one day the the kim dynasty, and their elite be force to be publicly executed in the most horrid ways, which make Iranian stoneing's look like community service.
The American's are doing blessed work in South Korea.
Did DMZ duty in 1990 where I watch the beginnings of the starvation of N. Korea. The N. Korean side used old style farming equipment and techniques farming that was outdated. Instead of using fertilizers they will slash and burn the old crops and use it as fertilizers! The N. Korea Propaganda Village is just that a village about 9/10ths of it is vacant and looks like a fake Hollywood set! Never ran into any tigers but did see their paw prints when I did patrol!
The union of the Koreas (which will eventually happen) is a ticking time bomb. Aside from the massive culture shock that Northerners would undergo there would be massive economic repercussions when the North's many problems become the South's.
Why does South Korea even need a propaganda village? It sets a very bad precedent. What is even worst, the minds and hearts it is directed at, are not in range of its effect!
this seems to me like a golden cage in a sense, they get all the support from the goverment but they have a hard time leaving, even for a while. am i wrong?
I was somewhat off put by the way the interview was conducted with the children. The teacher is making efforts to have the children talk because the girl is starting to have anxiety attacks and freezes in front of the camera. She clearly looks nervous in front of the camera.
And it was another student outside the camera shot who suggests the word 'Appa' (dad) to the teacher to help their fellow classmate to talk @ 7:40.
The interview is very misleading and inaccurate, to say the least.
It would be horrible if someday peaceful extraterrestrials choose to visit our planet and accidentally land in the DMZ. Both the North and South would bomb the shit out of them, infuriating all other nations of earth who would be standing by helplessly watching the stupidity of the Korean military on both sides.
Then the South would make a pretty cool film based on the event and we would all forgive them.
course. We could see the north koreans from where we were standing. Night patrols were the scariest i have to say. most of the guys on my squad would turn pale white like a ghost.
I would think going to Iraq or Afghanistan where u have to avoid roadside bombs or suicide bombers would be scarier than sittin in the dark being afraid of ghost. You should have just called Ghostbusters if that was the case.
i never said we were scared of ghosts kid. I said we were scared enough to become white like a ghost. and yes IED's and suicides are scary but at the DMZ you never know whats gonna happen. One sound while patrolling will creep us out. and also, we have to make sure no more mines are being planted. North Korea houses the largest mine field in the world.
@avaxtakaka Not anybody personally but my Grandfather fought in the korean war. My dad served in the military way after and was stationed there. And i was stationed there not to long ago, like 1 half a year ago>? I saw some North koreans though but from a very far distance. They were a little speck from where i was standing. I was stationed on a small little island around the river dividing the land. The DMZ line was like 2 miles away.
@avaxtakaka sry i can't give you a real first hand account of someone who actually was in there. I never knew anyone from NK. And if i went in there as a SK soldier, i don't think i will be talking like this now.ha.
I was inside the North Koran embassy in Austria and talked with the ambassador, I sort of was in "North Korea" legally speaking of course.
Out of all the nationalities I've come across, the NKoreans are the most remarkable lol. It really is like they come from another planet, they looked at me as if I was a Martian or something.
The embassy staff all drove Mercedes, lmao, food for thought, NK embassy staff were caught in Germany and Finland for Heroin trafficking.
From this clip I derived that peace between North and South Korea would not be good for those already living there both man and animals the e.g."korean tiger" BUT OH MY WORD i felt i was about to pull my hair out the music in the background is sooooo effin annoying!
Great video. Thank you for posting it. I want to ask you a question, the video is about the Korean DMZ but the music is a Japanese music. Did you know that?
@KHT175 Yup lol. It's one of the things that frustrate me about western media. They perpetuate an extremely stereotypical perspective of Asia and Asians. As if simply showing Asians and letting the narration tell people that they are in fact watching a show about Asia isn't enough, they have to always include some backdrop of ancient Asian music that often doesn't even match with the countries LOL
It's like showing the U.S. and having French music in the background XD
heck an income of 100,000 dollars a year is one reason why they stick around; plus they're kids get great schooling. but to answer you're question, they can move out of there whenever they want, but i don't think they can move back once gone; though they can still visit.
U dumb fucks the reason why the two Koreas cant unite is due to the huge difference in cultural mindset, customs and traditions as well as politics. If the two were to unite suddenly one day there would be war because of the two sides being unable to cope with the differences. The only way is probably slowly unifying sharing culture and more interaction but b4 that North Korea needs a radical change in leadership
XxDavo93xX is right. The North is to brainwashed into hating capitalism and democracy and if they reunited to quick it would cause a war. North and South Korea are total opposites the only things they have in common is that they are Korean.
@Raymasaki WRONG the culture and traditions are not the same cus my grandpa went to North Korea on a diplomatic trip and his experience was described as 'totally different' to South Korea. It felt as though we were two different races/
@XxDavo93xX the same Language & Traditional music.
of course its Different! BUT Most south koreans want to unite Right?
the same Race, WHY would any Koreans consider them a "different race"
Yes theres been a Huge advancement in south as far as a Modern society.
But they'r still reletives in Both south & North. the sad thing is most Young koreans choose to ignore & accept the fact of seperation & NEVER Protest
North Korea. any time you see a protest its people in the 50's or older.
@Raymasaki Um of course we would want to unite but historically (im not sure if ur korean or not) both nations hav been for the majority separated. Gorguryeo (one of the three kingdoms in korea) was located up in the north where the capital Pyongyang is and the other two kingdoms Shilla and Baekjae were in the South roughly where Busan and Seoul are today. I mean i dont see it happening as easily as West and East Germany reunited back in last century :(
@Raymasaki The old kingdoms thingo was jus some history on Korea and that for the majority of its long and rich history it was a divided nation. Yea hopefully there is reunification within this decade
@XxDavo93xX for that to happen, Kim Jun Ill needs to die, and hopefully his son Kim Jun Un isnt a fucking prick like his father. But then again if there is to be a united Korea then it must be on Chinas terms.... cos they certainly dont need a democratic nation close to there country
@KoolJayJ On CHINA'S terms? Russia was Soviet twenty years ago, and IT became democratic and capitalist and China couldn't say boo. Mongolia was once communist, but China didn't say boo to them neither when they turned democratic. China is smarter than the US. At least I've never heard of China invading another country or picking their noses where they're not wanted. If the Koreas reunite, it will be a democratic nation on the terms decided by both Koreas (and maybe the US if they play nice).
@KaleunMaender77 Russia is out of there reach.... mongolia is still part of china..... same for hong kong, look how well they are doing........ trust me China will not allow a united korea under the US.... if you actually read the future assessments the Americans has made, even they admit that Korea will not be theres to control....
@KaleunMaender77 Hmmm so they did not invade and take over Tibet and when N. Vietnam won it's War China tried to pull its weight on that Country. Then in 1979 they attack Vietnam and got their butts whipped and thrown out! So don't say China never invade anyone when they actually did!
yeah, you may be right. but i think actually there are more complicated problems like relationships with neighbor countries or political things. anyway it's a shame for the last departed country in the world,
@XxDavo93xX I don't think there will be a war perse, but there will animosity between them. From what I gather, South Korean's are not too keen on a reunification themselves any time soon as they would have to pump huge amount of money into the North, which could slash per person earning by more than half. And if we know anything from the recent recession, that is people can get extremely greedy if they find out just $100 will be subtracted from their wage. Imagine loosing $10,000.
@XxDavo93xX Actually they are the same ethnic people, have the same traditions and a very very similar culture. They reason they can never unit is because of the huge economic differences.
Yeah, North Korean Per Capita income is around 2% that of their South Korean counterparts? Think about how bad Germany's reunification was, and just imagine what's going to happen to Korea. /shudder
@XxDavo93xX no the biggest issue is the economic issue. culture and politics can be seen as small factors in the korean issue. the huge difference in the two koreas will leave south korea dragging north korea for a long time which will be much longer than what the two germanys faced
@0beythajksohn Hmm you have a good point there and I agree with your example of East and West Germany and its reunification but being a Korean myself I know as a matter of fact most people see the 'cultural' aspect a much more bigger issue than that of the economy as there are many things that us South Koreans can't just seem to understand about our Northern neighbours and truth be told I don't think we ever will
@XxDavo93xX actually its because north korea wants to be a communist country while south korea doesnt want to and north korea attacked south korea for denying
@XxDavo93xX oh and who do u suggest will come to butt in their big ugly face again, america? just like they did in the past, pouring salt over the wound and making things worse? and i suppose u think the americans or europens should assign someone to take that leadership, what s neutral about that when that person wud only be a puppet? in my eyes the US is responsible for turning that war into what it is TODAY. r u too naieve to realize why they need the 2 countries to stay apart?
@XxDavo93xX To be realistic, the North is at the fault. Particularly Kim jong il who only wants to remain in power and kill people. South Korea used to send aids like rice and money to improve relationships but North was always hostile because of this dictator. It's best to wait for the dictatorial regime to be overtaken by the people.
@vkvkvk1219 That's very true. Shame that the aid stopped flowing into the country but I guess the North always has the support of Russia and China. I think those two need to start implementing sanctions before anything diplomatic occurs between South Korea and North Korea. Haha and I don't think the 'people' will ever be able to overthrow the government like in the case of Libya. They are just too damn weak (physically and mentally) and most citizens are too scared to even dare to try.
haha.. thats right.. Thirld world means nations who are not yet Heavy Industrial.. 3rd world nations vary.. Some 3rd world nations have good living some have slums.. We have 3rd world underdeveloped Like Cambodia We also have 3rd world Industrialized like Mexico, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines etc.. Who ever says 3rd world dwellers are uncivilized is not JUST A MORON but completely BRAINLESS. no brain at all
I read that it's predicted if Korea should unite as one now or soon, its economy can bloom to a higher echelon than Japan and even Germany in twenty or thirty years. North Korea's lack of industrial exposure to its rich natural resources, and South Korea's rich industry that can expose them can make the peninsula prosper.
We just need Kim Jong Il to die, and have a sensible son inherit the dictatorship. I heard his son studied in England, maybe that differentiates his views.
...but every time a South Korean says "oorinara", it means "South Korea", rather that "Korea" as it says in the subtitles... big difference - opting a separate South Korea, rather than a united Korea.
lol poor little girl. I would cry too. "STOP PRESSURING ME!" ooh this is an Australian show. I'm going to look out to see if it's still on. Thanks, was very interesting.
the food is actually great. i find things like cream cheese and butter really repulsive. i bet you guys would be mad if you know just how many people might hate the food from your culture. it's all based on perspective. people are different there. it takes some time getting used to. GROW UP!
I'm very curious about how the Korean Tiger got extinct. Do anybody know where I can get sources? Did the Japanese actually kill them? I'm very curious. It's really sad that the Tigers are extinct. Thanks
The tigers that lived in Korea were Siberian Tigers. Tigers everywhere suffer from habitat loss and hunting.
In part of the world that suffered so many wars (First Sino-Japanese, Russo-Japanese, Russian Civil, WW2 and the Korean war) it is no wonder they became extinct.
yeah. not only that, they burn all of the koreans records, their history, and forced them into thier religion, and tortured ppl to hell. they were basically just like the nazis in the holocaust.
Even though I'm Canadian-born, I still feel really sad that North and South Korea are still separate and still under this heavy air of animosity and fear. Artificial borders are never what make up a true country.
The DMZ should never be dismantled until communism collapses in North Korea. I agree that the DMZ has unfortunately divided Korea but if it were to be removed it would just make it very easy for the North to invade the South just like in 1950.
ironically, secrecy is whats keeping the communist regime alive. although almost impossible, perhaps the opening of the border can bring down the communist regime.
If the border was opened the North would just use the opotunity to send hundreds of spies to the South. The border is also unlikely to be opened because it would be clear for everyone in the North just how better the South is.
South Koreans won't open the border until peace it's claimed...moreover, actually skoreans are more afraid of a economic collapse coming from the North than a military attack...
@macnos if capitalism was good, then a prediction of 2 million ppl won't loose their home by 2012 by a CBS documentary, already over 1 million have lost their home since economic collapse in USA
@1Waddup I never said capitalism is flawless, that's what YOU thought i said. Even with all its faults capitalism is a better alternative to communism, look at all the countries with strong economies, how many of those are communist? China doesn't count because their economy has not been truly communist ever since they realised that a communist economy is a weak economy.
I think overall peace is good. But they shouldnt build the theme park or have tourism in the DMZ, cause it would kill out the rare species. At least collect some of the rare animals for zoos.
And no native animal larger then a rabbit in the rest of South Korea....wow, I feel sad.
wow, i never knew about this village. very informative....but i'm wondering why the villagers continue to live there if they say they do not like living with their guard up all the time.....made me think a little. thank you for sharing :)
They live there because they make more money, dont pay taxes, dont have to go into the military, and the unpolluted water allows them to grow rice that is in high demand. Thats why they continue to live there. I still wouldnt live there though...no social life, :D. Also, if theres not that many marriage options they basically have to marry within Freedom village, theyd run out of husbands and wives eventually.
Residence must retrun to the village and inside the house with window and door locked by 11pm. What the hell kind of Freedom Village is that?

It is in fact one of the most volatile and heavily militarized zones in the world.

Imagine loosing $10,000.
yobrotherofut 1 year ago
@XxDavo93xX Actually they are the same ethnic people, have the same traditions and a very very similar culture. They reason they can never unit is because of the huge economic differences.
jimmah55555 1 year ago
@jimmah55555
Yeah, North Korean Per Capita income is around 2% that of their South Korean counterparts? Think about how bad Germany's reunification was, and just imagine what's going to happen to Korea. /shudder
Reghedable 1 year ago
@XxDavo93xX no the biggest issue is the economic issue. culture and politics can be seen as small factors in the korean issue. the huge difference in the two koreas will leave south korea dragging north korea for a long time which will be much longer than what the two germanys faced
0beythajksohn 9 months ago
@0beythajksohn Hmm you have a good point there and I agree with your example of East and West Germany and its reunification but being a Korean myself I know as a matter of fact most people see the 'cultural' aspect a much more bigger issue than that of the economy as there are many things that us South Koreans can't just seem to understand about our Northern neighbours and truth be told I don't think we ever will
XxDavo93xX 9 months ago
@XxDavo93xX I see. Haha i think either way if the two Koreas unite and they eventually come to unison.. it will be hella strong of a country
0beythajksohn 9 months ago
@XxDavo93xX actually its because north korea wants to be a communist country while south korea doesnt want to and north korea attacked south korea for denying
Namo340 7 months ago
@XxDavo93xX oh and who do u suggest will come to butt in their big ugly face again, america? just like they did in the past, pouring salt over the wound and making things worse? and i suppose u think the americans or europens should assign someone to take that leadership, what s neutral about that when that person wud only be a puppet? in my eyes the US is responsible for turning that war into what it is TODAY. r u too naieve to realize why they need the 2 countries to stay apart?

@XxDavo93xX sorry i thought u were one of those retarded redneck yanks who think cnn is god
smukase 4 months ago
@XxDavo93xX To be realistic, the North is at the fault. Particularly Kim jong il who only wants to remain in power and kill people. South Korea used to send aids like rice and money to improve relationships but North was always hostile because of this dictator. It's best to wait for the dictatorial regime to be overtaken by the people.
vkvkvk1219 4 months ago
@vkvkvk1219 That's very true. Shame that the aid stopped flowing into the country but I guess the North always has the support of Russia and China. I think those two need to start implementing sanctions before anything diplomatic occurs between South Korea and North Korea. Haha and I don't think the 'people' will ever be able to overthrow the government like in the case of Libya. They are just too damn weak (physically and mentally) and most citizens are too scared to even dare to try.

I'm very curious about how the Korean Tiger got extinct. Do anybody know where I can get sources? Did the Japanese actually kill them? I'm very curious. It's really sad that the Tigers are extinct. Thanks
akibem1 3 years ago
The tigers that lived in Korea were Siberian Tigers. Tigers everywhere suffer from habitat loss and hunting.
In part of the world that suffered so many wars (First Sino-Japanese, Russo-Japanese, Russian Civil, WW2 and the Korean war) it is no wonder they became extinct.

Even though I'm Canadian-born, I still feel really sad that North and South Korea are still separate and still under this heavy air of animosity and fear. Artificial borders are never what make up a true country.
SarahLee1 3 years ago 3
The DMZ should never be dismantled until communism collapses in North Korea. I agree that the DMZ has unfortunately divided Korea but if it were to be removed it would just make it very easy for the North to invade the South just like in 1950.
macnos 3 years ago 13
ironically, secrecy is whats keeping the communist regime alive. although almost impossible, perhaps the opening of the border can bring down the communist regime.
etatauri 2 years ago
If the border was opened the North would just use the opotunity to send hundreds of spies to the South. The border is also unlikely to be opened because it would be clear for everyone in the North just how better the South is.
macnos 2 years ago
South Koreans won't open the border until peace it's claimed...moreover, actually skoreans are more afraid of a economic collapse coming from the North than a military attack...
hayunspain 2 years ago 2
@macnos if capitalism was good, then a prediction of 2 million ppl won't loose their home by 2012 by a CBS documentary, already over 1 million have lost their home since economic collapse in USA
1Waddup 1 year ago
@1Waddup I never said capitalism is flawless, that's what YOU thought i said. Even with all its faults capitalism is a better alternative to communism, look at all the countries with strong economies, how many of those are communist? China doesn't count because their economy has not been truly communist ever since they realised that a communist economy is a weak economy.
macnos 1 year ago
I think overall peace is good. But they shouldnt build the theme park or have tourism in the DMZ, cause it would kill out the rare species. At least collect some of the rare animals for zoos.
And no native animal larger then a rabbit in the rest of South Korea....wow, I feel sad.

wow, i never knew about this village. very informative....but i'm wondering why the villagers continue to live there if they say they do not like living with their guard up all the time.....made me think a little. thank you for sharing :)
sparkerella 4 years ago 3
They live there because they make more money, dont pay taxes, dont have to go into the military, and the unpolluted water allows them to grow rice that is in high demand. Thats why they continue to live there. I still wouldnt live there though...no social life, :D. Also, if theres not that many marriage options they basically have to marry within Freedom village, theyd run out of husbands and wives eventually.
