  • I want to play this so bad :'(

  • All instruments < oboes and saxophones

  • Chelmsford high school is playing this :D I love this piece of music!

  • @PretzelCheer12 We played this my senior year which would have been your sophomore year. Because Freeport High School only plays good music.

  • Trombone does virtually nothing on this song. Maybe that's why it was so fun to play.....:)

  • what of the oboe? it deserves some credit for that solo at the beginning.

  • @Jonacy1212 LOL Maybe it was for the best....

Agh, who am I kidding, this song is awesome! :3

  • This is SO beautiful. We're playing this in my band and it makes me want to practice my clarinet so that I could sound like this.

  • This song goes out to the Clarinet Section, Oboes and Euphoniums :DD <3

  • The instrumental equivalent to Eric Witacre's Sleep. Beautiful is the only word to describe it. The master graces us with another stroke of the divine. I believe there must be a heaven, because I hear it in the beauty and perfection of pieces like these.

  • @Xprocks I agree the first time i played this song with my band I almost cried im serious within the first like 10 measures I had goosebumps on my arms.

  • @EHSNightmare I'd love to do that, not likely. I played it last year with my friend, playing those duets together was incredible.

  • So beautiful, made me cry when I sight-read it...play Euph. It's not just the solo, I love the whole thing, love that there's two euph parts (but there's only one of me...) I love that I get to use my low register for that pedal C, love it all. Love Db major, and G major.

  • @XProcks2001 Find another Euph for the Bottom part. I like playing the bottom part more then the top. They sound so amazing together, and the entire song is just amazing!

  • My solo at 2:44!!! Euphonium FTW!!!

  • If you've read the Destiel fanfic Waves, isn't this the perfect song for it?

  • This is in my top five pieces for band, hehe, under the double eagle is still at top!

  • I have played that oboe solo so many times and it just keeps getting better. I.love.this.freaking.song.

  • The baritone solo at 320 is what I play on trombone, in high school.... Trombone FTW

  • My high school played this song at Carnegie Hall last year. We played 4 songs, but our big ones were this and Hounds of Spring. No big deal. :)

  • Playing this as a French Horn. <3 Love the part where is really builds up[3:26-3:34].

  • aww yeh!!! oboe solo!!! thats how you start a piece!!!

  • im playing this atm with the QYO Wind Ensemble (Queensland Youth Orchestra) and when u play it it gives you an amazing feeling and you get shivers down your spine!! Its a beautiful piece! :)

  • i didnt really like plaing this piece at first but i gotta say, its really beautiful once you get part the sight reading stage of playing it. and low brass/ low woodwind is where it's at

  • honor band time!

  • Well... this song is sooo easy to PLAY THE RIGHT NOTES, but soooo hard to get the full musicianship in! However, it's very nice when you get it in! I play 3rd trumpet in my school's symphonic band and we get a lot of the moving parts. Very amazing tune!

  • going to play this for festical, and i am so very excited

  • Playing this for festival and rockin it!

  • This piece is absolutely gorgeous! :)

  • I'm playing this now and its amazing :D

  • I had a chance to see him live in concert, but my marching band director just had to make me perform at that stupid football game...

  • @MarTheJellyfish noooooo!!! That is so tragic!!! Dx

  • I Get to play the euphonium solo!

  • This is one of those pieces that you just connect. The entire piece is a flood of emotion which you are bound to until the very last moment. My goodness, I love this piece.

  • This is my dream piece. <3

  • PLayin' this song in the honor band in Fresno, Ca :D MOST BEAUTIFUL PIECE EVER.!.!

  • I love the euphonium solo in this. I couldn't dream of pulling it off like this.

  • こんな曲文化祭とかでやってみたいですー

  • You really have to trust your part to play this song.

  • It's pieces like this that make me think my flute is more than just an instrument...it's like a connection to the unknown. This is the most beautiful piece ever written, in my opinion. I just wish I could somehow get the sheet music for it!

  • @flautist569 I have the musicsheet! I played this for honor band! Tell me your email and i'll give you a pdf file :D

  • @flautist569 It doesn't seem to be uncommon for flautists to wonder 'why the hell did I pick this instrument?' :)

  • @flautist569 I can scan you the sheet music :) my ensemble is playing it right now. Inbox me if you are interested :D

  • @flautist569 search Eric Whitacre's website. He has links to a lot of music he's composed.

  • When the second clarinets sustain that A5 to the G#5 at 5:20-5:26 <3 <3 I played this piece this year! Baltimore School For The Arts - SHOUSH YEAH xD

  • Playing this in my highschool band:) love it!

  • 9 people forgot what month it was.....

  • This piece is so much harder than you think it's going to be.

  • The French horn part in this piece is awesome.

  • I still live in the place I went to college at, and they played October for the fall concert this past fall. I got to come back and be a guest member, playing Contralto Clarinet., or E flat Contrabass. One of the best songs I've ever played. Wish we could have played this on tour my senior year.

  • 240p... We meet again...

  • This is so beautiful. Never heard it before it will forever be on my list of favorites. P.S. I love the clarinet parts!

  • my highschool Wind Ensamble is playing this as one of our three for contest this year and I can't get enough of it. we have yet to play all the way through it, but the past week sight reading it has brought great promise.

  • I played this during my second year at university, second semester, when my mom was very ill with cancer. I would be down at the university often for 12, 13 hours a day away from home, and in rehearsing this piece, I would always think about her. It still makes me think about her, especially now that she is gone. I will always love this piece, for the musical beauty, and for the memories it provides.

  • I know I've never played this piece, but I could swear I have! Lol I could pick out the clarinet part.. anyway, GORGEOUS.

  • I love this song! Found it on a blog post about music. Check it out: chasednchosen (dot) com/2012/01/02/make-music/

  • Does anyone know what grade this wonderful piece is? It doesn't sound too difficult to play, though the musician really have to listen to each other.

  • @krisvanaerschot It's a grade 5 I believe.

  • @krisvanaerschot It's grade 3. It's one of my projects in Score Study

  • Click the snowflake!!!!

  • Haha listen closely at 4:40 u can here them all breathe

  • Goosebumps..

  • Song for Lyndsay > October

  • @mnmjhome tough to decide, but I think october is better. both are beautiful pieces by two great composers!

  • lol this is weird. im reading the comments and it seems everybody here is in a marching band. well i quit band, always liked music like this, not marching

  • sniffle. Played this in Marching Band. Brings back such good memories.

  • @DGRAYMANx5andahalf in Marching Band??? that's so cool! but it seems like such a hard song to convey while marching?? and it's so long by itself, I can't imagine what other pieces you'd play with it! who did you play for?

  • you know, while listening to this song, if you stare at the words, it seems as if it's moving.

  • Playing this for our district assessment. I'm so excited to play this, it's an amazing piece....my bassoon part sounds so good-3

  • @FueledByJaredd You play bassoon too? :) That's awesome!

  • We are playing this song in band along with Danse Bacchanale and Resplendent Glory. We seem better playing Danse Bacchanale, but I think that is because most of our band members aren't that good and either forget the key signature, don't catch the change in key, or don't see the accidentals. So some of the beautiful parts are ruined by one person not playing a right note, or I should say more than person. Our band is bad. Me and the first alto sax (I'm second alto sax) are the only good people.

  • @realfootballguy13 I hear you.

  • oh god we have to play this and our first horn is horrible

  • @barimusicman the Bassoon part is pretty good! All the parts are pretty legit!

  • im convincing my band director to have us play this in symphonic band. does anyone know if the bassoon part is good, because i dont want it to be the awesome song where i have a crappy part.

  • @barimusicman loved playing this song (i'm a bassoon player). It's a beautiful piece. Hard to get the soft tone right, but so beyond worth it.

  • @saturnoutlaw I'm really pumped to have my band director get us to sight read this. A good piece with a good bassoon part is what I would love. Thanks a bunch!

  • my symphonic band is playing this

  • My marching band is playing this in our seasons show. It's about a seed that is planted, goes through a storm, and then begins to grow(this song), and then it blooms. It's really amazing to hear an orchestra with such emotion and intensity play this.

  • @RitzVidz hey I saw a marching band play this this year makes me wonder?

  • We're playing this for concert band and I'm first oboe. I love this song!

  • Has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard

  • I was lucky enough to play this in my symphonic band. Last year my sophomore year I was able to be first trumpet when we played this song. I love this song. I wish we could play it again...

  • This piece is so amazing. I wish my band director liked Eric Whitacre's music. When I requested that we play this, he was like "I can't stand Eric Whitacre and his music". WTF.

  • 9 dislikes..............

    haters gonna hate

  • One day we were sitting in band, and the director of OSU bands came in for a clinic. We started playing this and he started to lose his composure. That day, we found out that a local girl who many of us knew had recently passed, and this was the song played at her memorial (her request). To see this music impact someone so deeply has stuck with me to this day. Absolutely beautiful song.

  • 9 people are in percussion

  • You open the door. You are greeted by a chilled wind that caresses you lightly. As you button up the top button on your coat, you notice the bright orange foliage of the forest not far from your house. Normally you would ignore them because you were too busy, but today is different; today you have all the time in the world. You begin to walk through the forest, and you begin to reminisce about the last year. Somehow, reflecting on all of the things that have happened helps you feel close to God

  • This whole piece is amazing but 5:00 to 5:40 is pure magic.

  • My high school AA band is playing that for Concert season! (: can't wait!

    1st clarinet!! :)

  • i played this in avery fisher hall my freshman year of high school. Brings tears to my eyes and chills to my skin every time...and its been three years.

  • i really want to play this, my friend is trying to convinve my teacher to let us play this piece

  • This is our ballad for marching band!

  • @Aluminummagnet Quite a long ballad eh? XD Or unless it's just a portion from the piece.

  • I remember playing this last year. I played timpani, and theres only like 6 rolls in the whole song. The stage was so warm/hot/humid, it made all the timpani really off their tuning. Sigh. Still a beautiful piece.

  • i love this song were playing it in my wind ensemble .. i love playing the oboe solo .. im the only oboe in my band

  • @bazookamojo40 hell yes! me too! :) i love this solo with a passion!

  • My marching show this year is based around this song... So beautiful... :)

  • @KodaBby94 Sounds like a long show. o.O

  • I just heard a small part of the choral arrangement for this....oh my god. I started crying from just the first 2 minutes!! I would love for him to do a combination arrangement of it. I do believe peoples heads would explode. Like mass gore scenario I'm talking about.

  • Love this song and love Whitacre! He really knows how to use powerful chords!! I'm a freshman in high school and my wind ensemble is playing this for our first concert of the year~ SO beautiful!

  • Anyone know what the Bass clarinet part is like?

  • @SmallProduction It's mostly harmony, but you share a few exposed measures with the alto clarinet. It's an easy part, but it's a part of something lovely.

  • playing this piece for our fall concert in my high school band. i absolutely love it.

  • The oboe solos at the beginning are so lush to play <3

  • im playing this at my band concert tonight! So excited <3

  • I also played this in high school symphonic band. One of my all-time favorites.

  • played this in high school. I love the tenor sax part. :D

  • A beautiful masterpiece. The chords after 6:33 are stunning, they blow my mind every time.

  • Did anyone listen to the remix of this that Eric Whitacre posted on his facebook a couple days ago?

  • :D i listen to this in band class and fell in love with it :3 also it makes me think of one of the pokemon movie i watched O3o

  • 3:30 to 3.45... WOW...

  • one of the most beautiful pieces ever and my alltime favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This piece holds a special place in my heart. I listened to this almost non-stop when my dad committed suicide earlier this year. It holds the bittersweetness I feel at memories but also has some of the joy and the peace that I know my dad has. In a strange bit of irony, my community band is playing this piece this December and in my heart I'll be dedicating it to my dad and his memory.

  • This is the reason I think that if God were to come down to Earth himself during any one month, it would be in October =D.

  • 4:48. the way the tenor sax's played that in my class would give me shivers every day

  • One of my favorites. Listening to this in honor of my favorite month.

  • This song brought tears to my eyes. Which is really hard to play flute and cry during a performance! XD
