The previous Generals of the Army were, Marshall, MacArthur, Eisenhower and Arnold. Most people will ask about Washington and Pershing, but they were designated General of the Armies, meaning the Navy as well. Perhaps you should do some research eh?

@swanningaround He has been the one man that has successfully advanced the war in Afghanistan and led stabilization operations in Iraq. He is the man that challenged Congress and even the President when their decisions on the war made no sense or they hoped to take his smile for granted. He is the man who has had love for country and soldier, standing firm on his moral beliefs and yielding to none. He has done a great deal.

I don't believe he called himself a hero, people percieve him as a hero because he brought some sense of guidance and direction to the Iraq war when the situation was all over the place. Yes he was a staffer ( at West Point and pentagon) but just for the latter part of his caeer.....the man didn't come into the Army as a general. Out of west point( with honors) he served as an infantry officer with the 509th airborne(light infantry), moved to 24th I.D, then 3rd I.D, commanded the 3rd Battalion..

...at 101st airbone, commanded 1st brigade of the 82nd airborne....these are some high speed combat units my friend. looking at him in uniform, I can see he's a jumpmaster, Air assault qualified, Ranger tabbed and other shit....this is no career staffer, this is a seasoned GRUNT. Just because he's highly intelligent, does not diminish the fact that he's an Infantry officer first and foremost.....from what I hear, he was the type to lead the way by example at all times.
