@cockle0979 hi, as you live there could you give me some advise on where to stay, like an island or mainland beach resort. we are about to travel again to asia in April 2012 and ive already chose ho chin min as a three night start up, after that we are not sure. phu quoc looks nice, and so does con doa.. please can you advise. we have in the last 6 years been to thailand and malaysia. we do like the beaches yet we would like somewhere at night to walk to like restaurants and calm waterholes.

My left-wing Uncle was arrested while on holiday in Vietnam last year. His wife was just trying to relax, but he was enraged by what he regarded as poor working conditions in the local factories he visited.

He organised a ridiculous ‘uprising’ among workers using improvised/fake weapons & suicide threats. This was swiftly & brutally put down by Police, with several ringleaders killed & imprisoned (including women & kids). He still feels proud of his actions though- what an idiot!

Just came back from 2 months in Vietnam. What an amazing, diverse and beauttiful place. Loved it. Recommed it very highly. Really sad seeing the effects of the effects of the US war there - the agent orange that still effects the Vietnamese to this day. Shame on America for the Vietnam war.
