the fucking allies usa robbing all good patents of technologie and other things from my country germany your fucking m60 was a copy of our great maschine gun, yes i hate the american system and your military power, i will never forget you destroying my country and culture, i will never forgive, what you had done to my country, be sure..........
It is funny how during WW2, the US was devoted to analyzing and understanding the Germans in minute detail but made no similar studies of its own forces, so that when many soldiers agreed with the independent report made by SLA Marshall, the US Military was shocked that its soldiers said they were performing less well than the higher-ups thought. Ain't complacency great?

A lot of skinheads have become infactuated with the MG 42 folowing the Omaha Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan. It was a very formindable weapon, that's undeniable, but it wasn't the wrath of god that many pro-german ww2 enthusiasts think it was. The Russians basically didn't have a clue on how to deal with them, but the Americans & their fire and manouver tatics overcame the MG 42s remarkably well.
No, the FG-42 ("Fallschirmjager Gewehr-42") was a box-fed full-auto rifle ALSO in 8mm Mauser, made specifically for paratroops, but they had controllability issues. The MG-42 is a general-purpose machine gun.
Ah,the infamous "Buzzsaw." 7.92 calibur, 1200(or 1500 depending on what bolt you put in)rpm, and a nightmare for anyone on the reciveing end. Say what you will about Germany's lack of a moral compass at the time, but damn they knew how to make guns.
@deltafreelancer Of course this one is very informative because it wasn't really a documentary, this is a part of the "educational" film made by the US Army to show their troops how to use German weapons if they capture any.
your referring to Corporal Franz Gockel of the 719 Infantry Regiment of 352nd Infantrie Division at Omaha Beach WN 62, he fired over 12000 rounds killing hundreds of Americans.
Its possible to hit a man sized target at 500 yards with 1 or 2 well aimed bursts from the MG3. And with the tripod and the optical sight it reaches even further.
But its a machine gun. So its main objective is firepower and reliability, not accuracy.
The M60 (United States Machine Gun, Caliber 7.62 mm, M60) Introduced in 1957.... This is MG42 (Maschinengewehr 42) was developed for and entered service with Nazi Germany in 1942, during World War II.
Which really wasn't relevant since the kill ratio on the MG42 was 100%. If somebody is anywhere near the other side of that barrel, they're dead. That thing was and still is one of the most deadliest weapons ever made.
I find it odd how this was a propaganda film to make men feel less intimidated by the MG42.

I like how they have added another machinegun sound at the end of the movie that makes it "sound" like it has a much slower rate of fire :)

one german with a 42 on D-day = over 12000 empty shells, some sources quote 3000 kills.
1700 more likely I think.

@zzsql The M60 actually copied the design of the MG42...

I gather the American High Command told the troops that the MG42 was much less accurate than the MG34....

Thats exactly my point, "Its less accurate boys dont worry" yeah right...get your head blown up.
