  • It's 2012 and I still rank this game in my top 5 "best games ever played" list. Assuming I had a list. lol.

  • when i listended the intro song i remeber the image and got scared with 18 years old :P

  • Best game I've ever played, and no game since has ever even questioned that. In fact, I can easily say that Super Metroid ruined video games for me, since every game I play now is subconciously being compared to this god of a game.

  • @Cleiusthenes I'd have to agree with you. In my opinion, this is the greatest video game I've ever played. There are notable mentions such as: Street Fighter 2 CE, Resident Evil 4, and a few others. However, I've never played another game that, in its era, was a start-to-finish masterpiece like Super Metroid. It's been over 15 years since it was released and it still pops up on "best game of all time" lists.

  • @wlmason73 Agreed 100% Another great contender is Zelda: Link to the past.

But yes... this game blows everything away... it makes me mad because there's nothing that compares to it...

  • @wlmason73

    Because it is, a masterpiece.

  • fucking nostalgia right there makes my heart heavy man old games rockd god damn our childhood was gr8 golden age of games man.

  • This game is very atmospheric and the music is eerie. I remember being a kid playing this game while it was raining outside with the lights off and I felt totally submersed in it. The music is awesome too

  • classic.samus is a G witch stands for gangster.Favorite game of all time!!!!!!!

  • @gavingal007 No she isnt, shes too cool to be a g.Shes beyond all that ghetto crap.

  • Excellent montage of the music. btw, is this an SDA run?

  • 4 people were too scared to play this game.

  • I couldn't agree more with CykoPatrik 12. Simply Epic

  • 4player didnt make it out of the space station...

  • Footage from the record speed run. Only took him an hour to beat this game.....

  • This game kinda reminds me of an 80's sci-fi movie like aliens

  • @AnimeMetalFan1 they got alot of inspiration from alien. thats where ridley got his name from i belive the directors name was ridley

  • This game was it when I was 5. Still puts me into a different world, love the soundtrack too, amazing.

  • @tinkerbellys12 ikr!!! im a metroid fan since i was 3!!!! (i was born after they got the game up) so yeah lol

  • I gotto say metroid is the best game, atmohsphere, action, music, exploration, collectable items, bosses, + 1naked chcik. everything is top notch . i always get a creepy feeling playing this

    its feels so isolated

  • @KnaRRaN1989 I agree..

  • I think metroid is one of the more mature nintendo games because they are all creepy and realistic unlike the other nintendo games which have talking animals and a fat italian plumber in a colorful world. This game is epic and the music is eerie.

  • that guy is amazing!!!!

    O________________O

  • falto la cacion de MARIDIA

  • mort atmospheric snes game ever made

  • ilovethisilovethisilovethis!!!!!!!!!!

WOWSERS...many an afternoon killed with this game

  • A Masterpiece, my favourite game of all time.... play it at night, with the lights out... brrrrrrrr

  • So nastalgic~

  • I loved the fact that you had to go back to the first planet and face all the bad guys again but bigger and meaner!

  • super metroid 3ds para el 2012 quien no sueña con eso pulgar arriba y hagamos que nintendo lo haga realidad.

  • @CyKoPathik12

All you say is true, though you miss two elements which raise Super Metroid above and beyond so many other games: There are non-linear gameplay options, and it rewards player skill.

For instance, you can complete the game without the High Jump Boots, and it's actually one of the easier self-imposed challenges. If you try to pull some of those stunts in Metroid Prime, you'll just end up corrupting the game and causing it to get stuck in a sort of paradox mode.

  • 5:38-6:45 Amazing Goes perfectly with the area you are in, in the game.

  • @HawkeyeWii all the music in this game is fuckin badddd assss

  • @HawkeyeWii That music you hear in those times is for Lower Brinstar not Crateria (which he was at that point in).

  • Not only one of the best metroid games, but one of the best videogames of all time. Oh and can you please make a metroid prime video.

  • Comment removed

  • This game pretty much set a new standard in atmospheric music in video games.

  • The whole game sounds awesome, but this part is definitely amazing: 5:37

  • Id love to see this remade into HD im bored to tears with fps games, there all the same dammit, just because we have greater tech don't mean we need yet more fps games. I aint bought a game in years because of this fact id rather play emulators perfect gameplay such as this, who cares about graphics anyway?

  • The most kick-ass 16-bit soundtrack ever.

  • Playing this game makes me tear up with joy pretty much every time....... SO HAPPY!!

  • 4:39 - Best track in the game. I love this song so much.

  • great video, but I don't think a player has the skill to do those things on the run. He is letting himself get damaged, the trait of a TAS(tool assisted speedrun) player.

  • @Nantestos

There's a 100% run of Super Metroid somewhere around here that's not only incredibly informative, but very fast. There are a few points in it where he damage boosts as well.

But I'd agree that this seems like a TAS-Run.

  • That Player Is A Beast!!!

  • NO FREAKEN DOUBT, DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can imagine the speed run player jamming the buttons and swearing at the top of his lungs when the game pauses to tell you that you've acquired a new item. :)

  • @ramistat hahaha I hated that shit, I would do that all the time myself. Its like OKAY. For the HUNDREDTH TIME I know how to shoot missiles!

  • This game is amazing, but calling it the best Super Nintendo game would be a lie. You got lost often and frequently had to backtrack, which was tedious.

Not to mention The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past is better.

  • Winner: balanced video game design

    Winner: best sequel

    Winner: OST

    Winner: <3 old school

  • Best snes soundtrack ever

  • Damn that player is awesomely good!

  • Brinstar Theme fo Lyfe!

  • 3:08 one of the best :P

  • This is easily one of the greatest games ever made, and that is not hyperbole. I think it was EGM that did the 100 greatest games of all time as voted by the staff in like 2003 or so and this was #1. Aside from the obvious qualities (sublime gameplay and visuals), the atmosphere, in huge part due to the rather spare soundtrack, is absolutely incredible, and this is likely the most alone you will ever feel playing a video game. A flawless masterpiece.

  • when i first heard this my jaw dropped. amazing sound.

  • i'm assuming the video is tool-assisted. that, or this guy is the most badass player of metroid ever and we should all bow down to his/her awesomeness.

  • Game music is not same anymore today. The music in this game definitely sets the tone in this game and will stay with me til I die. Now I remember why I love Video games cause of the epic music. When it comes to single player games or video game in general it has to have the music to set the mood and the tone. I was 11 when this came out and I didn't really listen to music that everyone else listened to. This brings back some fond memories. Good Stuff!

  • Hey everyone... It's nice to see that I'm not the only one that loved this game. I'm curious about what others (you) think about what made it unique, though... So, that said (and in your opinion), what 5 aspects of this game contributed to its success?

  • omg hes almost as good as me 0.0 i think metroid music is the freakiest scariest music of all vidiogames- and its amazing

  • best game ever made this is what games today strive to be quality and presentation nothing could match even if they tried

  • you can tell it's the PAL version because of the arm pumping to go faster.

  • My favorite game ever. Bought it when it first came out, and haven't looked back since. Beaten it well over 1000 times, and can actually beat it with only 16% items. Best soundtrack. Best graphics. Best controls. Best moves, fluidity of movement, atmosphere, tone. You name it, this game reigns supreme.

  • Know what the sad thing about Speed Runs is? You never get to hear that beautiful save music.

  • One of the best games ever made.

Also, the Brinstar Jungle Floor music is a fucking TUNE!

  • My favorite Game of ALL TIMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! I even Have it on my EVO!!!

  • I still have the game and been playing it like once a year or two since we got it. Which is at least 1996 cause I can remember playing it then. (but that means I was only 5 =X )

The first song played in this video was in my dream the other night too. But merged with 2 other songs: Tran-Siberian Orchestra and that song from Final Fantasy 8 that plays when Edea is around.

  • 6:45

    Welcome to HELL

  • Samus should rethink putting a door on top of the ship for when it rains, oh wait it IS raining.

  • I Played this game several times from the beginning to the end. But what an amazing feeling the first time when you fight mother brain: when your 'friend' gets killed and then you optain a supreme power and explode mother brain's ass on the great music font which smells victory. Great ! Most of themes in that are oppressing , that game was awesome

  • This game brings back soooooo many memories. My brother and I would compete when it came to who could get everything and beat the game in the least amount of time. GOD THE SNES WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME!

  • samus = my wife.

  • God, Maridia's bgm still gives me the chills!

  • @genkal

    its a creepy fucking tune!

  • I love how eerie the music is. Impressive for a 16 bit sci fi game.

  • The Metroid Theme sounds based on the Blade Runner soundtrack, by Vangelis. Awesome pieces.

  • this game provided one of the highest solid gameplay-to-time-investment ratios of any game ever. i remember sitting there for hours at a time enthralled in this game and time flew by like you hardly knew it.

  • I still get chills every time i hear the title music

  • awesome music and amezing speed-run

  • For 16 bit music.. that sure is creepy..

  • the music from this game is so often used.or in ascrew attack video or in other videos.so it's pretty awesome.the music is ahead of it's time and no metriod will be like this ever aggain, seen how the game industry is today.

  • "Hey that's funny, metroids turned the monsters into dust and when you t- OMG GIANT METROID GET OFF MY FACE I'M GONNA DIE"

Aaah, great memories from an awesome game.

  • Damn, one of my top 5 games ever. The tone it set really made you feel alone

  • 6:48 LO MEJOR...AUN TENGO MI SNES Y ESTE JUEGO¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • BEST SUPER NINTENDO GAME, EVAR (yes, with an A) !

  • This is definitely one of the best video games ever made. And Super Metroid is for sure the best of the Metroid series. This one unlike all the newer ones is more serious and very dark. Great gameplay and storylines deep. Miss super nintendo and this game brings back good memories.

  • @CyKoPathiK12 Dont gotta miss it man just dust it off and pop in a cartridge and your 10 years old again!

  • @CyKoPathiK12 Huh, are you saying that the Prime series or other m weren't very dark? o_O ???

The only metroid game that wasn't very "dark" in my opinion was zero mission. Fusion was a "dark game" as well.

  • @CyKoPathiK12 The newer ones are serious or dark? Have you played the newer ones? I agree that this is probably easily the best metroid games ever, probably one of the greatest games ever, but the new ones still stayed pretty true to the original in most ways.

  • @CyKoPathiK12 "This one unlike all the newer ones is more serious and very dark."

Actually, I thought Metroid Prime 2 was rather dark, no pun intended.

  • @CyKoPathiK12 The newer ones arent serious and dark? Have you played the newer ones?

  • @CyKoPathiK12 Metroid Prime comes in a close second place

  • @CyKoPathiK12 What? I agree that Super Metroid is the best in the series, but serious and dark unlike the other ones? I dont know what games you've been playing but I dont really remember the Prime series being bright, upbeat and goofy. In fact I remember them being more dark and serious than this.

Honestly can you think of a way for Metroid to make a jump to 3D in a way any more loyal and true to the series than the Prime games did? I cant.

  • @CyKoPathiK12 the best in the series yeah! the "Prime" ones sucks, every single one. But Fusion and Other M are great too. Other M is almost like all 3D era ones had to be! Long life to Metroi, best game inhistory according to EGM magazine

  • Covet and Love it.

This is one THE top games of my youth.

    This and SuperCastlevania4.

  • 4:38, man what a catchy song! Sounds like 80's music. I thought it was one of the coolest tunes in a video game I had ever heard when I was younger. Man I miss my younger days.

  • I think garudoh knew if he decided to do all the music for this game.....he would need two 10 minute long clips or more, for super metroid was no ordinary 16 bit game....the music fit each environment and situation like a glove. I don't even need to talk about the graphics and where the game stands in either the metroid game series or among snes games in general....cheers!

  • I used to love this game and did manage to complete it with 100% of items found. I think it's the best game music on the SNES. :)

  • most people these days say wat the heck is a super nintendo and i want to slap them and then they have the balls to say that snes dosn't have good games then i want to punch them

  • super metroid is sooo awesome!

u can get soo much insider knowledge from it!

    secret attacks and stuff

    just awesome!

  • is the video a TAS?

  • @werecatOmega I don't think so. There isn't even close to the kind of frame precision you usually see in a TAS. But there are some things that would be very difficult to do in realtime...see the jump at 5:56.

  • my absolute favorite game of all time

  • @kinglouiereina WORD

  • Can someone please tell me the name of the song in the beginning?

  • I WANT THIS GAME GAME SYSTEMS I HAVE ARE WII UGH WHICH I DONT PLAY PSP I PLAY GAME BOY SP AND IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN GET THIS WITH WAHT I HAV EANYONE DONATE ILL DO ANYHTING PLZ IVE BEEN WANTING TO PLAY THIS FOREVER!

  • @stuntman45666 Get a SNES Emulator and download the ROM :) Happy Times

  • Possibly the best VG music score of all time, and I'm including modern releases. Even the MIDI doesn't soundy tinny or forced, it just sounds perfect. Not a note out of place the entire time, and it really accomplishes the goal of a game soundtrack effectively: it makes the game more intense and exciting. Go back through. When you hear the music during the Mother Brain fight, you'll be amazed. It's so perfectly synced to add to the action but remain innocuous. Then try w/ sound off. Weird, eh?

  • Super Metroid is a 10/10 even when played today. I first played through this last year.

  • best 16-bit game ever

  • @CMOODO

    "Best 16-bit game ever"

Perhaps as far as music goes. I'd have to say that Donkey Kong Country edges it as far as graphics are concerned.

  • @JSSTyger

I agree with you graphic wise

But Overall i think super metroid

  • @CMOODO "best game ever". I fixed your little typo

  • @zzyzx0788

    thanks bro :)

  • @CMOODO You ain't never lie!!!

  • @CMOODO you bet your ass it is!

  • 2:04-3:09 epic

  • I love this game and is one of my favorite, but is it just me when i think that Samus looks bigger and heavier in this game than in the rest?

  • god that dialing a phone song is creepy...

  • Lots of Metroid's ambient music could be used for a survival horror game.

  • if u dont like this game u have a problem....

  • i was just telling my brother how when i passed this game yrs ago it was the best moment of my life up to that point! hehehe..this game in the best! =)

  • Who are the idiots who selected dislike, i can only guess it was lose of control of their mouse input device!

  • Best Metroid game ever.

  • @MisterPolaristo no take out the metroid part and I agree

  • i love to play this game

  • Ok...now this game has the best music of all time for any console

  • @reniisgod and the song starting at 5:38 is the best song in the game.. making it the best song of all time for any console

  • Damn!!!! Has any1 noticed this the similarity between the song at 6:47 and Pirate fortress on Majoras Mask ??? I love both games though!!!!! metroid n zelda are the Shiiitt!!

  • Epic !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I will always remember saying to my friend: "Hey have you ever seen the end of super metroid with 100% items under 3hours?" He said no. So I pop the game in, and the saves were all gone. Then me saying: Can't you wait 2h30 to see it?" HE said yes. Epic Gaming moment.

  • this is easily the best snes game

  • @rom901 which makes it the best game ever

  • BEST GAME EVER!!!!!

  • he need 45 min.

  • love that game, one of the best games ever, if not the best!

  • Thanks for that !

I love it in globality, but the music of maridia make me very peacefull.

  • I've only listened to the music, never watched the vid till now, the guy playing this is f'n sick...

  • i ne hear music??? how come????

  • Needs the 'holy shit, its the end of the world' music, but very good collection otherwise.

  • This music and game has Terminator 2 quality :)

  • Awesome music for one of the best snes games ever.

  • Is there a better soundtrack on SNES? I think not...

It's only missing an updated Kraid's lair from the original Metroid.

  • @Crowster12781 in my opinion, only Final Fantasy III/VI and Super Castlevania even come close. The SNES had many games with great music, but this was one of the three games I think are the absolute pinnacle of musical perfection, for this specific era.

  • @AgentDC76 your list is good mang, I'm surprised to see somebody else thinking that about Super Castlevania IV, not that they shouldn't, no no

and of course the first thing anybody does upon seeing a list like that is to spout out what the REAL list should be--for SNES music, you'd see people yelling out DKC, Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, Gradius III, Actraiser, and on and on

but I prefer your little list

except I'd add Plok and Secret of Mana

a pinnacle without Tim Follin is no pinnacle at all

  • @Bananadine I certainly don't doubt that Secret of Mana had good music. I was never a huge fan of Plok's graphics (and not necessarily because they weren't good, but I've never been into the more "trippy" styles. The music, on the other hand, is pretty darned good.

As someone who's probably played as many SNES games as one person could possibly play, I will say that there are a fair few games with good music, a lot with kinda meh music, and a few with absolutely brutal music. :-p

  • @Bananadine (continued from above) If I had to list all the games I thought had good music, you'd get at least five dozen games on my list. But it's a continuum, y'know? It ranges from slightly catchy to absolutely mind-blowing.

  • One of the creepiest soundtracks I've ever heard. Timeless piece.. Really fits the game, one of the best on the SNES!

  • who ever is playing is way too fucking good

  • And Norfair still has the most epic of the music IMO =)

  • dis is da sickest mofo u eva seen in da tourian son

  • 5:55 thru 5:58...WTF???? How did U do that? AND HOW THE FUCK DO U KEEP CONTINUOUSLY DOUBLE JUMPING UP WALLS LIKE THAT??????

  • @HueyFreeman909 ask the guys over at speeddemosarchive . com

  • called wall jumping, pretty easy

  • Player = L33T

  • 2:04 Epic

  • and who ever is playing is a pro at this game

  • very immersive game!

many style of graphic & music atmospheres & amazing gameplay as all metroid!

sure it's in top 10 best snes game created.

  • The main theme puts one word in my mind: duty.

  • More to the point, it makes me want to go out and defend something.

  • This is my favorite game ever. Bar none. Even after, what, fourteen years now? I'm pretty sure this game is the high-watermark of game design.

  • I'll agree with that

  • @tehkevxor1983 I agree, though I sometimes flip flop between SM and Final Fantasy VI. And to think both games were released weeks apart in 1994...the 90s were a good time to be a gamer, eh?

  • @tehkevxor1983 This and Mario, back when SNES first came out. Im still Blown away by the graphics, gameplay and muci. So classic yet ahead of its time. Theres alot to be said about a Sidescrolll that woops on most games nowadays. Dudes Metroid 2 for gameboy kicked major but as well! But this is IT!

  • The epoch of 16bit gaming! When I heard "the last metroid is in captivity, the galaxy is at peace". I nearly wet myself. If you haven't played this game, you don't deserve to be called a gamer.

  • @ shohokuAlumni very true.

  • @ShohokuAlumni Fuckin A. Metroid is by far (IMO,) the best series of a game ever made. I grew up with Metroid, fucking love it. Samus FTW =) Epik!!

  • @ShohokuAlumni - yea its a bloody awsome game. im 13 and ill probbly still play it when im older. Metroid FTW!!!!

  • @ShohokuAlumni if you haven't beat this game in under 3 hours and got her to take her suit off, you don't deserve to be called a gamer xD.

  • @ShohokuAlumni wat about if ur tryin to get it ecause everytime i go to nintendo .com i mess up one way or the other and then i cant get internet to play metroid or super metroid

  • i love this game..mostly because its one of the few video games that I have passed without using any strategy guides or cheat codes :-)
