  • I must say, when I saw the beginning and realized you were using a paint brush instead of an airbrush I had my doubts. But, I sure was wrong. Fabulous job ! Thanks for posting the video. You are a true artist.

  • very informative, a job well done

  • THANK,S FAITH6651,THAT TURNED OUT GREAT.

  • Ah yes - those were the days - doubt I will get a chance to catch anything worth mounting over here now I have left France. Maybe a decent trout sometime. Everything is private or dayticket waters and crowded out here!

  • Thak you for making your videos. You helped me launch my interest in taxidermy. I have mounted a few fish from my local lake based off your videos. Than you and keep making videos :)

  • Hi again Matt - yes I hope you soon have a great display on your wall that brings back fond memories of each catch. More so I hope that you catch a monster to mount and show off to yourt pals in future? :-)

  • Only just seen your reply - many thanks and so glad to have helped. Send me shot of your stuff sometime? :-)

  • This is a great video especally for some like me who both enjoys art and fishing.

  • Great - so good to open my PC to a lovely positive comment like this, thanks! :-) Yes, such fish are worth a bit also, never mind the past history associated with it! Maybe make a nice case for it sometime and add some background and weeds etc. Even small fish in plastic modeling material ? Best of luck - Peter

  • This video was a fantastic help! I recently uncovered a 40inch northern pike in the attic of my fraternity house in Illinois from 1963. The fish naturally was showing signs of neglect and had become completely discolored, in fact i doubt it was ever painted in the first place. After a few days of repair to the eyes and fins i had no idea on where to start shaping up the color. This video helped me, (someone with no taxidermy skill), take a old fish and make it something to be proud of!

  • Hey Peter,

I seem to have problems posting comments on your Zander video.

Anyways, did have to add any chemical on this fish before you painted it?

Thank you for sharing your knoledge,

    Chang

  • Hello Chang - As I will say in my other reply, please take the time to see all of my taxidermy films on here and read all of my replies to so many questions? :-) No problem but I am sure that you will find the answers to all your questions now and future? If not, no problem of course I will write! :-) No further chemicals are required beyond using borax powder outside and inside. Also the formaldahyde in difficult interior places. It MUST be totally dry after ! Several weeks minimum.

  • Wow, good job, I can learn anything on youtube.

  • Seems so eh? :-) Great place to share our knowledge, pleasures and give to others. Pity that at times there are such ignorant, selfish, arrogant, self opinionated people who write negative things on here and offer nothing from themselves except critisism ? Fortunately they are in the minority, but I have just removed two of my films on Barbel fishing due to some ignorant small minded crap - simply cannot be bothered, just blocked him and said OK you all lose, then removed said films!

  • Okok. I understand stuffing the perch, but the carp? I think it is Illegal to kill a carp...

  • Hello - by your letter here and about the Barbel in the UK I gather your knowledge of fishing is limited? :-) OK firstly - NOWHERE her do I say I have ever killed or stuffed a Carp !? I have in fact made an exact model of a 20 kg one that was returned here though.. In polystyrene. I do talk about that in these notes on my channel. Please read carefully before making accusations? Nor is it ellegal to kill Carp, unlees that particular water is private and says so.

  • I have eaten a small carp from Spain and personally did no like it, marinade or whatever. There is a move in the UK to market Carp as a table fish again, not for me I am afraid as I also have Koi and Carp in my fishpond as pets! Now Silure - that does tatste great! :-) Also I hardly ever kill fish unless to eat and also taxidermy. As my own specimens. The two perch were not caught by me but local French who gave them in return. I would be dismayed at anyone killing any big carp, no need.

  • I wasnt accusing but oh well.. in that case.

very nice model of a carp it is very convincing :) Take it as a complement that i couldnt tell a real from one of your cool models :D

  • No problem - so long as you know I did not kill that lovely carp just to mount it, no. :-) I also made a plastic model of a big silure, exact measurements - good fun to do have sold it since though.

  • do you have a a video on how to stuff it? if not you should make one. but this is great!

  • Well spotted - very similar.

  • is a zander a walleye

  • if i ever catch a big fish im getting it stuffed

  • It can be a hard choice as to whether to return that lovely animal to grow and fight again another day for someone else - or eat it / have it mounted? Perhaps it also depends upon how many big similar fish there are in that water? I have done exact plastic painted models of carp etc. from photos in order to return many fish for clients and myself.

  • Thats amazing! You gave me another reason to go fishing....

  • Glad you have enjoyed, yes it is good to feel that WHEN you catch that big one you can eat it plus mount it for your wall and then remember the day! :-) Mind you we do put most fishback here, carp etc. only taking a few other species worth eating.

  • very snazy

  • Really? Never thought about it in that way :-) I have seen much fancier work done with airbrushes - but as an artist used to using brushes I have managed with them so far - although my fiancee is offering to buy me an airbrush for my birthday, which I shall certainly accept. :-)

  • i would rate this 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

  • Ha! I assume that's good? :-) lol Thanks - Peter

  • If you look on my website I have done a sea trout in foam and painted it years ago. Very similar. You can buy "interference" powder colour in shades of pink, red, blue, purple, green - etc. mix with PVA glue to use thinly with acrylic paint and you get that lovely sheen a bit like mother of pearl for a rainbow - still using ordinary colours as well of course. Hope this helps? Peter

  • Do you have a painting of a rainbow trout?

  • I loved this video. Very artistic work and great detail. I always wanted a huge driftwood mount of Lake Michigan Perch here in Milwaukee Wisconsin. They get up to 17 inches long and average 13-14 inches. I caught several 15-16 inchers that I should've mounted....

  • I have done so already? :-) On stuffing fish, fish heads, birds, squirrel etc.? So you have all the basics to explore safely. Good luck - Peter

  • hey mate thats amazing... how did you stuff it did you just get it outa the lake let it dry thn varnish it? if not can u tell em wot u did thanx

  • No problem - please see the rest of my films and look at "How to stuff a Zander" this will show you all you need to know - perhaps then look at how to stuff the head of a pike also?

  • amzing 5 stars

    please post more taxidermy videos

  • That is just awesome! Something I would really love to do but I am blessed with 0 artistic talent. Do you think that having a good artistic sense is really vital? I have thousands more questions but for now I'm going to watch the rest of your videos (the sawdust one was very impressive!)

  • Sure - glad it was interesting. How are you mounting it? As other film stuffing with sawdust or will cast it etc? It makes a difference to how you prime and what effects? With Pirahna you may wish to get some translucency and mixing some pearl effects by using interference colours. Small jars you can buy from craft shops and mix with a little PVA medium - gives irridecent blues, reds, greens? The experts will also be using airbrush - but not cheap and lots of practise! Good luck! Peter

  • mountin it the saw dust way

  • Then no priming is required - you may paint directly with acrylics ONCE its totally dry! Using thin glazes and building up will be useful, esp. for the piranha - plus try the interference colours I suggested? Of course practise on some card first? :-)Don't varnish too quickly - again make sure its is totally dry!

  • nice man im going to try painted and mounting a pirahna and a yellow perch and tips you could give me would be appreciated?
