But I'll tell you something, this is pure fusion. Morover Indian violin is played sitting down as correctly stated. And this is not Hindusthani Classical Violin or by any way Carnatic and does not resemble any of Indian tradition. So I must ask they should not played in front of the Gateway of India at the least. If anyone listens to Pandit V G Jog one can only understand what the true Indian spirit is and what he had created.
You have no idea what you are talking about. This is Carnatic raaga Gowrimanohari at its best. Enjoying music is the true Indian spirit. Tradition is just another word for haters and hypocrites!
Kids like that one should be the one taking the spotlight in the music industry, not fucking justin beiber. If your looking for a definition of talent watch this video.
don't say "standing ovation is not the indian way." in fact, naturally and scientifically, when the body is aroused by a stimulant (in this case music) it has the natural urge to expel energy. standing ovations are the most popular way of showing gratitude at the theatre, in musical concerts, etc. mostly because your personal space can really go one way....up. stand up and expel the energy caused by in this case amazing and passionate music. standing ovations are universal.
I haven't any idea of their itinerary. It was by chance that I was told they were performing at that time and was seated front row and to the right side.
drbsr: I entirely agree with drtomr about saying please, thank you or sorry. In India, we express our appreciation with our body language, smile and gentle clapping. In fact ,in the west, if some one offers a cup of coffee you have to say "please". Thank you means you don't want it while in India the otherway round. " I would like it". Simply when one of those words is mentioned, it carries a real sense in India. In the west they are vfery loosely used, may mean nothing.
@achatterjee1920 whoa, wait a minute! at least he isn't an embarrassment touring around singing ridiculous pop music like his brother! I'm embarrassed for South Asians every time I hear of "the voice of the theme song for the tv show 'Heroes'"
i had seen a vid where ambi says that he will become violin......... and with all his dad blessings he did it. thats really great to see both you guys....love ya...mauritius
I wrote that in response to 'seruppadi's' comments ['Where's the standing ovation, morons? Indians are some of the worst when it comes being an appreciative audience.'] This may be due to Indian audience's culture treating classical music as a spiritual system which may not go well with boisterous applauses of the kind that western audiences make often due to a psychology of the crowd to raise a chorus, even if some individual listeners really were music deaf to the real beauties of the fare.
This so cool! I am jazz vioin player and I like this.
Listen the desapered violin player "Juan Reynoso". It is a person who never studied music and despite this he played and composed a lot of music inspired in some popular music from his land! is not like this but I think that we have to share music from every part, because we are all humans and music is the language of the world!
@seruppadi standing ovation is not the indian way of showing appreciation.... Our ways are more subtle.... @seruppadi Have you ever been to Indian classical music concerts in Madras? I've been to some and played in some as well. No where is there a standing ovation.... We don't have to ape the west. Your example of bribing policeman is just out of context here. And yes, what we do AND what we don't do are our Indian way of living. And you don't need to teach us. The people who have enough sense to buy tickets to a L.Subramanian concert will know enough to appraise him too. U don't have to teach them
@drtomr Ape to the west ... nice bowing, and position shifts ... that's straight up classical western playing my friend ... don't let the notes fool you ... if you dislike the west so much ... but I can understand your dislike of the west, geed, materialism, no direction, etc generally speaking. However, we (human) are all apes!
@shaan2585 Here comes another presumptuous asshole. Why don't you offer this advice to all the hungry and homeless people as well? "Close your eyes and meditate, your hunger will disappear."
Now take my advice instead: open your fucking eyes and see what the hell is going on around you. Marx to Mozart, many on all areas have achieved so much without your stupid meditation.
And btw, If you really want stamp some authority your comments spell and punctuate things right.
@varunmittapally Are you stupid or what? Those great people didn't know what the hell meditation is. That was my point. And you turn that around to score a cheap come back? Try better.
@shaan2585 This "fact" is shocking indeed. If filling the stomach is the first priority exactly where does your stupid "fact" fit in?
I know more about meditation than you probably imagine. How come you're so sure of what I know and not know? Knowing is different from believing. Besides, just read your own arrogant replies "you don't know this, you don't know that" haha. Pretty humbling? Bowing down to suck our own dicks are we?
And why do you think I'm some white guy when I'm from Madras?
@seruppadi And, I thought you as an illiterate white guy coz I have seen countless illiterate white guys commenting like vomitting under great indian classical videos, and your comment matched very well with theirs'.
@shaan2585 Oh, so they bow down in respect eh? Suddenly the musicians are kung fu masters and the audience their pupils? hahaha. Well, fine, did they bow down? I've been to several concerts in Madras myself. People do applaud if not give a standing ovation.
So no, this is not what happens in India (as if India is some small township and this moron knows everything about whatever happens in all of India). Really, is this what meditation does to you? Make you sound like an arrogant imbecile?
@shaan2585 No one said anything about Western classical being a standard. All I said is "where's the standing ovation?" It's just an expression to mean "where's the appreciation?" So again, if standing ovation is suddenly not an Indian thing (read the Mahabarath: especially on what the people of Hastinapur do when Arjuna demonstrates his skills with the bow and arrow).
Because I question this audience's muted response I become a non-Indian? At least check my profile you idiot.
@seruppadi Finally, you did question the audience I understand and that's fine. Just that you did it in an awful and disgusting way, You are generalizing smoothly. Like, if that certain audience was full of deaf people then INDIANS ARE USUALLY DEAF. The only deaf and plain dumb here is only you, having zero understanding of specificity and a worthless brain acting all irrationally.
He is a gift from GOD to India........Felt like crying... At the age of 16 when all boys watch RAB NE BANADE JODI, here is a boy who can bring heaven to earth.........Wow.. All the best for him......its Charukeshi raagam
mpdnsrgm of Charukesi = srgmpdns of Gowrimanohari. Hence these two ragas get identified one for the other. The base pitch (or Aadhaara sruti) is the pitch where the piece comes to a rest. This is not there in W Music, hence both the Raagas coalesce when played as a scale of Western music.
