  • Of course there is a bias here. See my video under ccoins102 for a different view of maremmas at worst and norm.

Try Anatolians if you seek a great LGD.

  • what is name of music?

  • @az200y really

  • The Pyrenees are Acuras of dogs.

  • ive had to shoot and kill about 7 of these types of dogs due to the lack of training when your hunting where im from if you see a sheep you already know theres two dogs running to attack you, they need to be trained not to attack humans, many hikers have gotten mauled by dogs like this with herds of sheep in the mountains, they need to be able to differentiate threats, they giv hunters no other choice they dont stop coming. i fel horrible after

  • @Shitncocksandwhich69 Are you sure they actually wanted to attack you?! Just because they look scary doesn't mean they are. When my dogs playing with me she will run around growling and play-biting, but if she ever actually hurts me by accident (which has happened about twice and was because she fell and crushed my fingers) she calms down, cries and licks my face. Of course if they were charging towards you viciously (growling steadily and pulling their jaws back) then you would kind of know.

  • @emy0ox Not the family dog types but the ones that herd the sheep they attack to kill or defend sheep, they def dont come to play they killed my dog long time ago, i dont kill them unless they dont stop coming i try to scare em

  • pastore abruzzese best in the word.yeahhhhhhhhhhh

  • HAHA! i have an awesome great Pyrenees named BEar and I put this video on full screen and he started licking the screen! SO cute

  • @JabarbarDevin24 that's awesome!!

  • god this reminds me of a 80s - 90s documentary from disney

  • They are such cool dogs; they are so loving. My dog is mixed with Golden retriever and he is so beautiful with the mixed red color. He stands from foot to head 3/2 feet and five-foot length. I’m 6 foot and if he stands up he can look me in the face.

I named him sha sha han, he was the king that built the Taj Mahal for his wife. I named him that because he is so big and loving. I call him Shaggy for short.

  • @wetone1962

You're right. They are big. Saw one today being walked by an old lady. I stroked it's head. What are they as pets, are they aggressive?

  • @brightlights456X Not that I have seen my dog is loving and caring to any one you should see him with kids. They love to play and have fun. I have Parkinson and he helps me get out of bed too, also he’s very laid back with other dogs he likes to play but he just lays there if another is aggressive towards him.

  • @wetone1962

I see. I'm thinking of getting one. What do they eat? The old lady told not too much meat as it will make their blood too rich and could lead to complication. She stated a bit of everything. Her's loved pasta. What about strangers, how do they treat them? Are they good guard dogs? If I were attacked would he/she jump in?

  • @brightlights456X My love can be very protecting but I have not seen him attack any one but he has a very loud bark and most people are afraid of large dogs. Food wise, try not to feed them too much, because mine has thyroid problems, and large dogs have hips and joint problems. Always consult a Vet to make sure you keep a good nutritional level. Although I do feed him a lot of vegetables.

  • @brightlights456X i own one(go check him out on my page ;;muscle dog winston'') He is VERY social to strangers, but if anybody but my dad or i step onto our property he goes into protection mode...although he usually calms down if we assure him for 5 minutes that they ar welcomed. Perfect dogs! All dogs need a high meat, low carb, grain free diet. y dog is on a high meat food called taste of the wild, as well as a food called acana. Go check my vid bro.

  • The Great Pyrenees dogs here in Central Texas (used with Livestock) have much more square muzzles, are bulkier and ceratinly don't have a suppleness when they run around! :) They are pretty clumsy playmates. But they definately have retained that bark, and the instincts are great to guard and be alert, especially at night! Great dogs - but you MUST have lots of land and expect them to roam if not fenced in. Not good with invisible fences either btw.

  • they get in rouble hlot.!!!I have one

  • shite music ruins nice video

  • im getting one tomorrow :) his names don quixote. (quixote for short)

  • @NameTheLlama stupid name for a good dog

  • @rctriplefresh5 I didnt name him ass hole. he was named by guy who abused him,, hes 5, you cant just re name a dog that old.

  • a great spanish dog!

  • The hind legs on purebreds have two extra toes where the dew claws normally are.

  • I had the privelidge of adopting Molly 7/9/2011. she is wonderful. I think she rescued me not the other way around. .

  • @mydollstuff some have the droopy mouth sides. It varies. Those with droopy mouth sides tend to drool more. You can sometimes train them to drool less

  • Our Pyrenees is soo cute!! when we get home, she always gives us a great big smile. its one of the cutest things I have ever seen!

  • The best dog I've ever had. Calm, patient, intelligent and very loyal. The drawback : Always bark at everything and at nothing sometime XD

  • big dog, bigger heart!

  • i got mine yesterday and does anybody know if they eat chicken

  • @dianacazadora321 They'll eat anything brother! However, the best treat for a Pyre is a pig ear! They go NUTS for that treat!

  • @glassjaw890 thanks but im a sister not a brother XD and ill try it thank you

  • @dianacazadora321 They love chicken, either cooked or raw. Even better than that, they love lamb.

  • simply LOVE them!! :)

  • 'Gardian Dog."

  • I hv a Pyrenees his name is Chapel, He eats rice+fish+bone, 1 slice of cheese per day and Blackwood Dog food.

  • I hv a Pyrenees his name is Chapel

  • This music is too much.

  • Love this video! Makes me wanna go bear-hug mine...

  • how can i foster one of these wonder giants? Miss Evelyn M. Darst

  • how may i have the honor of fostering one of these wonderful creatures

  • I have a Pyrenees and Lab mix :)

  • I want to breed these!

  • I used to have one of these, his name was snow....

  • i had one when i was younger nd he was the most beautiful one evr but he got to big and ate evrything so sadly we had to give him away

  • When i'm grown up, I'm gonna get one and name it ''Akamaru''

  • my uncle used to have a great pyrenees he was big

  • My two Pyrs were Friska St. Francis and Tammie's Blizzard of Oz--(Ozzzie)-I miss my Pyrs alot.

  • the Great Pyrenees should have double claws at the back legs. Once a while you see doeble claws on the front too, but that's not obliged according the standard.

  • Is it true that the pure ones have a double small upper toes on each leg.

  • great video about the PYR. I love mine. He is both livestock gaurdian and best buddy to me. He is beautiful and loves all the baby goats. He is usually the kid-sitter because I bottle raise the kids and milk their mothers. He is also very intelligent and helps out when we need to move cattle. He has a natural instinct for animal work and he is very loving to his humans. :)

  • i got 2 their names are ceali and louie

  • i owne one of these dogs. they are angels..awaswo sweet kind..good with kids and everyne..easy to care for the best adopted him 4 months ago..he will be 3 in oct

  • The Pyrénéan Sheperd dog is now in alpages, against bears and lupo from spain ! Back to Pyrénées and is it good for breed ! This dog is'nt take house but "mountains and défence !

  • the music at the beginning is intense.

  • Comment removed

  • Puts a tear to my eye, grew up with a female, so much fun! Died half a year ago.

  • there so cute XD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • in india we have himalyan mastiff comes in all coat colors and have big resembelence with pyrenean they are also herding and flock guardian dogs

  • I have a pure pyrenees who is just a farm dog but we have a lot of 40 in a 200 farm and she will wander away from the Mastiffs and go hunting for cyotes or other dogs. This has to be my fovorite dog I have ever had she loves me and does anything to "protect me" from my friends If you have a farm like my uncles do get some of these dogs. nothing can kill them sept for a bear. His farm is 3000 and they bread like crazy. But they will kill anything that wanders into their feildand trys to get cows

  • 0:19 is just too cute!

  • Love this breed. Nakita my dog is great. They are especially good at protecting livestock, but even if no livestock, they are still loviving dogs that will protect your home from strangers, or at least let you know when supicious people or animals are around.

Definately wouldn't recommend this dog in city, they like exercise and their booming barks would not make you very popular on the block.

    Great country dog though.

  • we have a bernese mountain dog and she is the biggest family dog. Are great pyrenese good family dogs?

  • @iaminnocent9 weve got a Pyrenean, they need training and good socialisation (just like Bernese) and then they make lovable family pets. Some have bit of a guarding instinct others dont. They enjoy a good bark sometimes. And that big tail knocks anything within swinging distance over lol.Mines tail put a mug of tea over today lol

  • An exquisite showing a one of my favorite breeds! Beautifully done and such wonderful music - thank you.

  • great video---bought a great pyr at an auction -have had her for a month-- chrisofiowa1948@yahoo.com

  • such gentle giants filled with unconditional love of their masters and such a happy to be alive breed, barking for the sheer pleasure of it

    barking is their laugh...it's beautiful

they'll guard the moon, the sun, the grass, the trees, the sofa, other pets, and every-

thing to always be of service

    love spicey and sugar

  • my pyr is more like a supermodel , shes tall long and skinny . Shes about 75 lbs but really long and almost 32 inches at the shoulder

  • i had 2 put my great pyrenees down today. i have known her since i was born. she was in pain nd was getting old sadness

  • They are such beautiful dogs! Wow and grow so big!

  • search Google:great pyrenees breeders akc

  • no, these dogs that they have are just not as fluffy as the regular ones. Also, there are Great Pyrenees with blocky heads. And I personly like the blocky heads better thatn the smooth ones shown in the video. My great pyrenees has a blocky head, and is much more fluffier than these great pyrenees. :D

  • Just saw a huge one of these in invermere. The thing was like a donkey.

  • the spike collar is awesome!

  • bought a great pyr at an auction a month ago---she is a sweetheart--chrisofiowa1948@yahoo.com

  • I have two Pyrs. They're great dogs. When I take them out in public they're very well behaved and I have people stop me all the time asking about them. I doubt I'll ever have a different breed of dog ever again.

  • I have always thought these were gorgeous specimens! I got to hold a GP puppy in my arms several years ago...didn't want to stop...I was in love...so soft and cuddly :)They are good size dogs...and not very common... :)

  • What a beautiful dog, but such a frightening collar.

  • my brothers mean he said it look like a gigantic wiener dog when it stands up i slapped him so hard

  • I WANT ONE!!!!

  • @kellymarn11 i have one named maggie shes 4 years old she so cute XD!!!!!!

  • @1234Thedragon. Hi! Why do u want to get rid of her and where are u from?

  • my dog is a beautiful mix of a Pyrenees and a Lab. shes so beautiful, taking mostly after the Pyrenees. Only her coat is mostly black

  • Yes,. your Pry is just a puppy so he will have his moments. Get a camera ready and film them. Enjoy your Pyr

  • my friend has a huge pyrenees and i swear its a grown man in a dog costume

  • I have a pyrenees that is six months old. He is my baby but I was wondering if they ever get out of clumbsy and excitment stage?

  • Waaaaaaaa!!!!! How can i own this breed of dog?

  • What a wonderful video of Great Pyrenees! I too have GP and truly adore them. They are guardian dogs for my herd of meat goats. My dogs live on a 40 acre tract of land with the goats and the barn is their home. They stay with the goats; usally leading them around.

My Female just had nine pups and I share this experience with the you.

Search for: Great Pyrenees Puppies Live Birth.wmv I am a proud papa!

  • I remember having a neighbor that had a Pyrenees and I used to go over there all the time to go play. He was waaay talling than me (I was only 8-9 years old) and when he stood up, I was like a short bean compared to the tall bean stalk he was -lol- I loved that dog but I couldn't after they moved D; Doc (His name) was like the best dog ever, so playful yet so kind and gentle. :D

  • i have an impression that i have seen larger or fluffier dogs of this breed, or is it another one?

  • It might be well possible. Often in the US the Great Pyrenees is fluffier. The seize will not differ so much, only because they often are heavier in England and the US (compared to the French type of Great Pyr) they might look bigger.

  • I Love my Pyrenees, He's 6 years old, Named Bandit, about 6 feet long. 200 pounds on all fours he is almost 4 feet tall. he is a beast. Greatest guard dog ever, but very loving. Seeing them as a puppy then as an adult you would never believe how big they get, min is 100% full blood Pyrenees

  • I miss my Pyr mix, (she was mostly pyr likr 75%). this video made me cry.

  • Loving our Pyr. She is a great guard dog, indeed. Wary of strangers, but the gentlest soul when it comes to our family and children. Sounds like the rescue before wasn't properly socialized. It's really important to socialize this breed as a pup - which makes sense if you are familiar with the breed's purpose. Unfortunately, not enough people do their research before choosing dogs and they wind up homeless as a result.

  • my great pyr was a rescue off craigslist, he's my first encounter so I was breed ignorant when I took him. he's great with the family, but has tried to bite many of my children's friends and doesn't like many people who don't live here. I know that he had an abusive upbringing so I believe this might be the reason for his actions. The fur is another issue, I didn't know a dog could have so much fur.

  • I have a 9 month old male Pyrenees/Mastiff mix named Murphy and I LOVE him! He is already 95 lbs and his nickname is Cozy, because that's what he is! We are having issues with excessive barking, even in the country my neighbors do complain, but we are working with a trainer to alleviate this "problem". He gets along great with cats, other dogs, pot belly pigs and the kids! I would not trade him for the world!

  • @lhaas6482

It's the only laid back/happy to be alive breed that I've noticed that barks with pure abandoned joy

You see, their bark is their form of laughter and it's always music to my ears.

    They're beautifully expressive dogs

They guard their family, the moon, the stars, the grass, the fence and everything in between with an unconditional love for their master and family.

  • @sekhmetraptah I will never think of his bark as "annoying" again after that wonderful description! Thank you!

  • @lhaas6482 I have a German Shephard mix named Murphy!!! he is awsome

  • I absolutely love my Pyrs! Couldn't be without at least one. They are very addictive dogs!

  • Loved the video! I'm considering starting a dairy business and am researching livestock guard dogs. The Great Pyranees seems to fit what I'm looking for and though I don't have a dog right now I've grown up with them so their independence doesn't scare me as far as training is concerned. I'm looking forward to getting to know the breed.

  • i miss my abby, she was 13 when i had to put her down because of her health

  • Excellent dog - gets along great with cats (yes, cats) and children. It is a very playful dog but wants to be treated as a friend rather than a pet, so if you;re looking for a toy don't get a pyr.

  • Awesome.

  • These dogs are beautiful, but need room to run... I have 2 , A male 2yo 160 lbs and a female 14mts 94lbs...The love to play with my German shepherds... Unfortunately they love to bark and herd anyone who ventures into my yard.. Thank God I have a large fenced in property...Believe me they shed less than my Shepherds...A true Majestic animal, wonderful with kids....

  • what a cute mix - pyr and a retriever. - cute and protective. Be prepared for a lot of hair. Sounds like a great first time dog.

  • I have a pyr/white german shepard mix. What a beautiful mix. She looks very much like a pyr, but with a slightly darker coat. Wonderful wonderful dog. Great with kids and other dogs.

  • i like butts

  • i have one of these dogs there the most amazing dogs in the world that and a newfinland max(the peir) got in to a fight with my friends pitbull and fucked the pitbull up =*( i felt so bad for the other dog but the other dog tryed to hump him XD

  • would these be a good companion dog?i want a livestock dog that can protect me and my house yet i want one that is a good companion also, and are they strong?i want to make sure i get a strong dog.they look like big dogs or is that just all the fur?

  • i had a male pyrenees and ya they are veryyyy protective and also veryy loyal and nice o their owners but they will attack any intruders. once during midnight someone tried to break into my car and my dog started barking and they ran away. trust me these dogs are the besttt

  • oh,but can they e strusted with children?

  • OH yes. If there is one dog that can be trusted with children, it's the great pyrenees. trust me, i have one.

  • Yes, the great pyrenees meets the requirements of everything you just said. I have one, you will NOT be disappointed. It is the perfect dog.

  • cool....

  • Beautiful dogs....to bad they shed like a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree !

  • We have give a haircuts in the spring and summer. Sometimes we would trim him in the fall, and he would usually act really sluggish or laid back until it snowed. We would open the door, and he would come running to us (he never did unless it snowed). He always looked snow white until it snowed, then he looked yellow. LOL!

  • I have never seen an example of a GP as big as the one I had. I am 6'4" tall, and he would always come up and lay his head on my knee. He was really big, which makes me wonder if he was within the breed standard. He was still a good dog, though. He was really hard to keep clean, though, because he WOULD NOT let us trim his belly. He would try to bite us if we even reached toward that area! He would go and get in the river, wade through mud, and the creek. He would get pretty dirty.

  • I've always admired this breed. Probably the most beautiful of all the giant guardian breeds. I've read that King Louis XIV of France used them as guards at the Versailles Palace.

  • i have one of these dogs VERy friendly he's 9

  • I am thinking about getting a dog, i love the pyrenees mountain dog, and am thinking about getting one that is cross bred with a golden retriever, but would that make a good first time dog?

  • i have one and he is awsome

    his name is gordy

  • my pyr is sooo sweet. I love her so much!!! She has been a great pet for me, the sad part is as the pyr rescue group told me she's getting arthritis in her front legs. T^T I don't execpt the fact that she's gettting old. But other then that she's a wonderful dog.

  • my pyrenees is a great dog. He was badly abused as a young puppy, but has become a wonderful companion. Buddy's a great watchdog, but hates kids. I'd love to get another Pyrenees. :)

  • These are amazing dogs! I had 4 working my herd of Goats in Texas. They are great with children. Always working, even when they seemed to be resting. The alpha was the guardian of the kid goats. Ive never seen such a majestic and hard working dog. Though they respect their master, the herd and its domain is their world. We never had a problem with coyotes or any other predetors on the ranch, thanks to our team of Pyrenees. They took turns barking all night to keep the problems at bay.

  • they look so majestic. Like lions. I wanted this dog for years.

  • how are these dogs with small children? I would like to get one of these dogs becuase i'm moving to a semi-rural area with a lot of bears. I would like a little warning for the kids.

  • there nice around kids

  • These dogs vary widely in temperment. We've had several and have found the neutered males to be more people friendly than females. They need to be socialized when they are young though. Some people put them in the field with herd animals and never handle them. A dog raised like that would be dangerous to children. It has been our experience, though, that if you get one that is really good with the family it will stay that way. They aren't the kind of dogs that would turn on you.

  • rukiddingmeNJ, the Pyrrs are among 3 or 4 BEST breeds around kids... but they are unbelievably protective of the kids of their family. You got to be carefull when your kids are playing with other kids and your Pyrr is around them.

  • Awesome With Kids, Awesome with Bears, Awesome with lIfe. lol

  • We had wonderful pyr named Zoe'. She was the epitome of wisdom, gentleness and intelligence and she possessed almost a sixth sense.. She was with us for fourteen years. We miss you Zoe'.

  • cont... and he saved her life. We sure miss him. He was a great dog.

  • we have had these dogs for years, as we raise sheep. Our last one died three weeks ago, from cancer. A few years ago in January we had a ewe who died from complications of lambing. We went out the next morning and found her dead and looked around for her lamb. We noticed the dog lying on the ground kind of funny and could see a little face peeking out from under all that white hair. He had gotten the lamb after her mother died and kept her warm all night. It was about 5 degrees that night

  • That's just incredible, great dogs

  • Beautiful dogs.

  • i have a half great pyrenees half austrailian shepard he is the biggest dog on my block but not as big as my cousins full blood

  • i love these dogs and want one but do all of you guys go broke trying to feed them? someone please who has one give me info on them

  • Mine gets about 3 cups of good dry food a day but she doesn't get as much exercise as she would if she was guarding a flock.

I think she is beautiful, smart, entertaining, patient, elegant and a joy to watch when she moves

  • It's not too much to feed them. As puppies they eat a little more, but as they grow, you'll find they eat about the same or sometimes less than other large dogs.I thought I was going to go broke feeding mine when I got him, but even if I did, I wouldn't trade him for anything! Dakota is the best dog I have ever known!

  • 5 stars cause my dog jack looks escatly alike hes huge but hes also a huge wuss

  • Ifinally talked my mom into letting me get one of these dogs. He's really shy, and afraid, we believe he was abused. But he sure is huge, that's for sure. My parents think he's way too big, but I think he'll be loving like any other dog. =3He's like half my height, maybe more.

  • I had a pyr and he was a great dog. but

he would wander off if not on the leash.

and i mean wander but great dog. And i had to always bring him in at night he would bark at anything because of his protective drive. His bark was very , very loud i lost him in 05/'04 could'nt bear to get another one it hurt too much to lose Thunder. I miss him even today.

  • We just got one from the Human Society. He's an older one, almost seven years old, but he's already seemed to attach himself to us and is very protective of our two children already. My only sadness is we'll likely only have him four years or so...but I know already I'd get another one in a heartbeat...we love Tundra so much already!

  • i have a male year old pyr named bubba

    i love him so much

  • We have a 6 month old puppy named Angus. He is 60 pounds and thinks he is a lap dog. Very loving breed and great with the kids

  • mine does that to

  • The oldest breed of dog in the world and the Noblest of them all. I've had 2 in my time, but now have a 6 year old Newfie...Thankfully the 1/2 Pyr in her took the dumb nature away from the lab 1/2 of her! She is queen of the Upper peninsula waterfalls...

  • I had a beautiful girl called Saskia. Unfortunately she had epilepsy which caused her seperation anxiety. She was the houdini of the street. Could scale a 6ft concrete wall trapeze across and away she went. Dug 6ft trenches. Only breed and dog I trust with children. Perfect shepard and nanny. I was able to walk her off leash and she never wandered off. They live in any climate cause of their metabolism is so slow. Plenty of water and shade their happy. RIP Saskia we love you.

  • They are such elegant and gracious dogs ! just look at their beautiful movements ! How are they with training and obedience ? Are they trustable off leash, or do they like to roam ?

  • A Pyrenean Mountain Dog obies only if he thinks it's useful for him. They only listen to you because they like you, never because of force. Off leash they are no trustable at all. They will stay with you often, but if they see or suspect something that is more interesting as you are, they disappear. One trust: mine comes always back home after such an own chossen way.

  • Yes, 100% true. They make their own choices, but trust me you'll like that, because they are very smart and they usually choose very wisely.

  • Great video! You speak - well, type - English very well!

  • I have a Great Pyrenees named Ambush, he's about a year and a half old, we found him as a stray, he was about 30lbs underweight and his entire scruff was matted.

He is /the best dog/ I've ever owned xD

He's so sweet and gentle, and he lives with us in our two bedroom apartment, and he's just fine with it ^^

All in all, if you're going to get a giant dog, Pyrs are definitely the way to go :P

  • thats good to know. because iv'e been talkin about getting 1 but ppl say u hav 2 have a huge house otherwise its not fair. i wudnt get 1 if i didn't have a yard or a garden so yay!! :P im happy

  • Got one yesterday and named her Sasha.

  • ohhh i'm so jealous! i've always wanted a great pyrenees

  • i want one! i just got so many animals though....lol

  • I have a Lab / Pyrenees mix she was born in Sep 08 and she is almost as big as my German Sheppard. Does anyone know how long this breed takes to reach maturity?

  • when its 2 years old

  • 2 to 2 1/2 years old

  • i am so going to get one of these wen i get my own house!!!

i like the big hude really fluffy ones, they look like polar bears! :p

cnt w8 2 get 1. and i got an awsm name 4 it too lol

  • Mine is called Ursa (urs means bear) we named her that because she looked just like polar bear cub when she was a puppy.

  • yea i had one that died a while back we put it to sleep because she had servere hip displacia she could hardly get up at all

  • I have a puppy his name is Lukas and he is two months old he is the cutest & most patience dog ever I love U Lukas!!!

I hope he gets well one day,

    Daisy

  • i just got mine. his name is Dino xD

  • i have one their so beautiful

  • some people like to call them gentle gaints but there name is cool and I have I 2. I had a other but she is...long gone *sob* and I am writing this on a phone

  • i have a great pyrenees too.

  • we had two full bread but someone shot em now we have two mixes
