The album is finally being completed. Tim Aymar (singer for Control Denied) released a statement on EmptyWords Org /EmptyWords12-2010.htm that studio time has been booked and that the album will finally be completed and released, in 2011. It seems like it's actually going to happen this time. Who's excited?
@RebarVictimo I read an old interview w/ Steve Digiorgio saying how the new Control Denied album will be like a Sound of Perseverance part II. Chuck finished writing all the material for the new album before he died. Richard and Chucks parts are already recorded. The vocals, the other guitarist and the bass is all that is missing. Im excited about the new material and its not gonna be just 4 songs, these are just a few demos Karmageddon got their hands on.
@imdashit5 well i dislike the fact this demo exists because it represents how much karmaggedon fucked over chuck his family and his bandmates but i could never hit the thumb downs button to god playing guitar so thats what stopped me
Schuldiner was not well schooled in musical theory, and found "playing by ear" to be a more effective and advisable method for himself. Schuldiner "made up" his own scales and modes (many of which ended up being real scales, such as harmonic minor, melodic minor, and phrygian) which Schuldiner frequently utilized in his solos. This also led him to create his odd fingering positions which very much defined his style.
Guitarist in Death that I like in order of preference in my opinion: Chuck obviously. 2) Bobby Keoble (Symbolic) 3) P Masdival 4) Shannon Ham. Thats from what I've heard from Death. Probably they could have another that I don't know. But They where all amazing guitar players.
Ah, a Koelble fan! Most people forget about him. You're also leaving out the legendary Andy LaRocque from Individual Thought Patterns. There's Rick Rozz from Leprosy-era Death, as well, but...it's not that he's not a good player, it's just that I don't care for his playing style.
@gst013 Believe it or not, I actually think James outdid Chuck on Spiritual Healing. Probably a combination of Chuck still trying to solidify his style (Spiritual Healing features the only sweep picks Chuck ever played) with the added fact that Chuck finally had a guitarist that could actually play at the level he wanted.
@blodiapunchingjin Haha strong words, but you might be right. His soloing on Spiritual Healing was awesome. It was really amazing to see how the level of musicianship went up on that album with the addition of Murphy, then again on Human, especially with Sean Reinert replacing Bill Andrews.
What makes me respect Chuck is that he didnt know music theory and he didnt have an interest in ever learning theory, yet he writes alot better songs than schooled guitarists! True talent right there! RIP.
@MetalHybrid Nah. A true genius doesn't rely on music theory. It's called "schenkerian theory". Great writing doesn't come from following rules, but knowing how to break them. Many theoretical giants are great, as are many who don't even know that it exists. Paul Gilbert is a great guitarist, and me must have studied music theory. Chuck didn't, and he's just as great.
I think if this song would have been finished by the other musicians in control denied, probably it would have been the best song ever written by chuck....his solos are so deep adn emotional in this song, his soul come to us through those notes.... RIP CHUCK
Chuck was the greatest musician who ever lived in my opinion. Those laser fast riffs, those awesome melodies and the most amazing emotional solos ever made. Richard Christy was his perfect drummer and Shannon was the best guy to be his 2nd guitarist. Obviously Steve was always his favorite bassist. Its a shame he finally found a lineup he could stay with forever and he died. We miss you Chuck. You'll always be the best. "Keep the Metal faith alive"
Death are my favourite band since 1991. Yeah, Human, that masterpiece, 8 October 91. What an amazing Control Denied Album that may have been. RIP. Forever in my heart.
No really, i've listened to all 4 of the available demo songs now and they are VERY good. It's really unfair that the album never saw the light of day.
I like the fact that you can hear the progresion of Chuck's abilities while at the same time he always kept that incredible sound that made him who he is. Spiritual Healing redefined music for me. It had an unbelievable sound that left me dying for more. Thought Patterns, Perseverance, Human...they were all perfect. I was amazed at how he always had excellent musicians to play with and they always fit in with him perfectly.
Yeah it was amazing that every album since leprosy through to perseverance just got better and better, and then the control denied work just topped it all off. Most bands get worse with time, Chuck and his bands always got better.

I love this song, especially the intro. It sounds so peaceful. Long live Charles Michael Schuldiner! His body may be gone, but the legend lives on!

@gst013 Murphy's solo on Within The Mind at 1:53 is badass. Love the legato, progressive metal-ish style he brought to that album.
