  • Just out of interest how many smoke generators do you use on the layout.

  • Brilliant, just brilliant. This is my favourite episode so far and I can't wait until the others come out!

  • I hate to ask since I am a musician myself, but what is the title of the Holst being played at the beginning?

  • @reedman9

    It's Jupiter from the Planet's Suite :-)

  • @DoctorTankEngine That's what I thought it was. I must have a mental block. I'm kinda embarrass that I couldn't figure it out. haha. Thank you though. Great videos by the way. Your layout is beautiful.

  • Wow thanks 4 subbing me Doctortankengine your videos are so interesting if u hadn't subbed me I'd never have found them, thanks I have train videos on my channel from various railway visits if you fancy a look

  • is that a 9f on passenger at 1:09 coming out of the tunnel or was it a britania class loco? also how do you make the smoke effect? if you use a smoke machine where did you get it?? :)

  • <3 the intro

  • I have to say this must be the best video I've ever seen, so well put together & the icing on the cake is it's a region with locomotives I love.

    Thank you.

    Mike.

  • @1964mikem

Thank you for your kind comments Mike.

I now have a HD camcorder so footage should look alot clearer. Over the next few months I will be doing some North Eastern Steam shorts, called North Eastern Steam Spotting, which will be shots of these superb locos in action.

    Tom

  • This put a smile on my face, great atmosphere. Well done!!

  • I stumbled upon this video while looking up excursion videos. Excellent, spot-on work on your part. I especially love the chat between the cleaners. Your attention to detail is magnificent!

  • @ronthecyborg

Thanks for your kid comments :) Episode 4 will be released at Easter (postponed from February)

    Cheers

    Tom

  • Awesome video :) Love that music and btw, wicked subtitles :) The video is so realistic, but is it your model railway?I'm currently building an OO gauge model railway. Its basically a loop line with a fiddle yard. Keep the videos comin'

  • i have a question i live in Texas and want to get my hands on some Double O scale trains and tracks how would go about doing that

  • Very nice video!!! xxD

  • I may have said it before, but the clip is outstanding, very beautiful.

    Rob

  • where did you get hold of mons meg?

  • Comment removed

  • It's amazing how realistic this looks.... I may at some time attempt something like this (only on an American railroad, probably the Pennsy or NYC...

  • Awesome episode! You're masterful at creating a realistic atmosphere.

    Well done!

  • are these shed still there?

  • Great video mate! How do you get so much steam?

  • Say Tom, you ever considered featuring your layout in a model railway magazine?

  • @NewController01

Funny you should mention that..... more news closer the time ;-)

  • @DoctorTankEngine What, you've considered it?

  • like the music it makes the vid sound very poetic :)

  • Beautiful images and very nice model. Congratulations.

    Superb work. Philippe

  • haha love the mention about the dirtiness of the Gateshead engines a very true statement which lasted into the BR diesel days. But...a dirty loco is a hard worked loco.

  • @xtremewrestling4eva

Many thanks chap, indeed you are correct, never a truer word spoken.

I know I have said it already, but welcome again to PW Forum :-)

  • Absolutely brilliant... :) :) :)

  • @BasicModelling

Most kind chap...thought you would like it ;-)

    Tom

  • @DoctorTankEngine I missed it the first time around, but as I check your channel on an irregular basis, I normally catch up at some point.. :)

  • this is the very best video portrayal I have yet seen! the wisps of fog throughout lends to the idea that it is early morning...I like the narration and the conversations that take place...In 1960 I took a train from near Prestwick, Scotland to London..I recall opening a window and having a taste of the soot so it must have been a steam loco :) and I quickly shut that window...it was a night journey so I had to have slept most of that trip..thanks for this grand video :)

  • A streak of excellence. The effects were very superficial, I felt like I was actually there within the dust and leftover smoke from the engines. Very believable, and so realistic. The wonders one can do with some OO trains and a video camera.

    Amazing. 5/5

  • I haven't heard of a gate set loco before what is that?

  • That's 52A Gateshead, one of the sheds on the North-Eastern Region.

  • Are you saying that Gateshead is actually a shed on the North-Eastern Region?

  • According to my Summer 1955 Ian Allen ABC of Locomotives, yes, though given that this is set in 1961, it might have changed in the interim.

  • @sonicxthomasexpert

yes it was, it's the sheds that pretty much served Newcastle

  • I thought it was Newcastle. Thanks for confirming it.

  • 5/5 Great ONE!!! :D

Full of atmosphere of The Golden age of Steam!!! Look forward to see what happened in the next episode!

  • 5*S great video

  • Excellent production as ever Tom, wonderfully atmospheric scenes around the shed

  • Well done Tom, And i have joined PWF but neverless a outstanding series. It could go for a BAFTA

    Signed

    M.Gitsham

  • its so realistic love the smoke

P.S is the turntable hand power vacuum or electric

  • @ShaurntheSheep

    Thanks chap

I'm guessing you mean if it was real what would my turntable be.

I'd say Vacuum, I will add something at one end of the table to show this at somepoint.

    Glad you enjoyed :-)

  • yeh I'm pretending (because its so realistic) I'll watch the next ep

  • Simply amazing, bravo!!!!

  • K1's? You have a model of a K1?

  • GASP! BE STILL, MY HEART! O_O

'TIS YET ANOTHER ONE OF TOM'S SUPERB EPISODES OF "NORTH EASTERN STEAM!" *SQUEEEAL*

Awesome, wonderful, superb, outstanding, amazing, excellent, mind-blowingly good job on episode three, Tom! Kudos to kudos to kudos to you! :D

  • @Trensahnethetram

I guess you liked it ;-)

    Thanks mate, much appreciated!

  • brill job on the episode

  • Sy Tom, have you ever watched a model magazine video series called 'Railscale'?

  • @NewController01

    can't say I have

  • Well, I'll ask a friend to copy it 2 disc and I'll send you some clips of it if you like

  • Well done, I loved this!

I've been waiting for this episode for a while now and i'm not disoppointed! The music, the smoke effects and the bit where the cleaners are talking, it just gives it the sence of realism

    Well done

    Andy From St Andrews Road

  • Wonderful video. Great atmospheric shots, commentry and music. Well done.

  • Great video, 5/5

  • I would wish they bring back, real trains. Diesels, and steam locomotives. Trains with class and style in their design. Not just boxes on wheels. The art of design has been lost amongst the mechanical engineers. Any idiot can draw a box with windows on it. wouldnt it be hard to fit some nice curves, add a bit of style, not just fibre glass and lumps of metal.

  • fantastic! brillient!

one of the best if not the best!

also do you use dc or dcc?

will you be doing a documentry on Eatscote Central Station?

  • Nicely done! &

    Thanks

    ☻☺☻☺☺☻☺☻

  • thanks for the link BM

  • You've really put a lot of effort from the usae of music to the overall atmosphere for this installment of NES mate, I love it!

Also, the scenes with the cleaners talking were a nice touch.

  • That was a proper docudrama.

    STUNNING!!!

  • amazing, I love the opening theme. This episode is the best yet.

  • Silurian, fantastic. I can see where you got the name from!

    Kind Regards,

    Tom.

  • @Cromford88

i know what your thinking ;-) but it was a member of the class. But yes great name.....not sure the 3rd Doctor would agree ;-)

  • @Cromford88 actually meant to say 3rd Doctor would probably like it....typo

  • Very, very moving.

The image at 2.58 says it all... well it doesn't really, the whole things was beautiful.

    Rob

  • I have to say, this is my favorite episode of your series, I like the fact you focused on a railway shed

  • Fist of all Tom I must congratulate you on this amazing piece of cinematic work. It represents one of the finest videos of a model railway I've seen. You have captured the true essence of the steam age, not only in the North East but Nationwide. It does without a doubt set standards that most of us can only dream about...keep up this fantastic work Tom, it's truly inspirational..Thanks very much and a 5*+ from me....Bob

  • Great episode and video. Are you a YouTube video partner?

  • This is epic. Love the steam and sound FX!!!!

  • Very Good!Your series is VERY good mate!:D

  • I haven't seen a series better than this so far,apart from the BRWS.But still good!Excellent Mate :D

  • Fantastic! Loved the history involved and the way it was presented! Loved the figure in the shed at 2:30 being "smoked out"!!

    Thanks for the enjoyment

  • Very good,

I've been waiting for this one for quite a while and i'm not disoppointed!

The steam effects, as i've said so many times they give it that sence of realism

    Well done

    TGF09

  • amazing video, i was just amazed, welldone, i got to do loads and loads on my layout, but that was really good. 5 *

  • That scene with the engineers arguing over which region is better is my favorite part. It almost made me laugh.

  • ALL I CAN SAY IS WAW

  • Great episode Tom. (:

  • Very well done. You've put quite a lot of detail and work into this.

  • Truly state of the art and it's quite a move to do a Documentary style series :) You've handled that superbly and heh heh it actually reminds me of watching the video I have coincidentally called "Steam Supreme" :) Haven't watched it in years as I don't have a video machine but I still have the video.

  • Holy Christ, Tom! :O

This was absolutely fantastic. You've outdone yourself with detail - each and every scene looks like something out of an old documentary clip from the yesteryears of steam. If I may, I'd like to stress the shot from 2:41 to 2:48 - no matter how many times I watch that clip, I always think it's real.

I love it, Tom. Your series is mucho mejor than most on YT.

    Richard

  • @Skarloey123

I'm truly touched by your comments chap! Thanks mate, although it was alot of hard work putting this one together, it was really worth it I think :-)

  • Oh my God, Tom you have truly out one yourself mate, this is by far one of, if not the best model railway video I have ever seen. The scenery, the atmosphere, the music and sfx, the narration, everything is really superb.

It is THE most realistic model railway I have seen to date. Well Done Tom
