don't worry.. if you have to fall down, it won't so hurt... i had afraid like you too.. but after i learned only 4 times with guru, now i can do it n just fun... i enjoy my weekend with my husband just for ski all day... it's fantastic... don't lose your time.. don't be afraid!!! :-))))))))))
Ya it doesn't hurt that much especially if you fall if you are new to skiing since you won't be going too fast. The better you get, the more painful the fall is. Just look at downhill racers at the Olympic - crashing at 100+km/h.
honestly, when you fall it doesnt hardly hurt unless your ski gets caught and your knee bends wrong, but typically the ski will snap off before any bad damage. The only pain you should feel will be the next day :)
Don't worry too much. I mean, you will probably fall over, but the first thing an instructor teaches you is how to go slowly. Falling over slowly is a bit like flopping down onto a grass verge, so understand "snowploughing" first to keep your speed down.
These videos aren't really for *total* beginners. Look for tutorials on snowplough turns, and expect to spend at least two solid days on nursery slopes and green runs.
Take it easy and you'll be OK. Don't let anyone rush you!
kinkyvietgurl, I've been teaching skiing for year and I have yet to have a student not be able to stop, go, fall down safely, get up again, and are begining to make turns by the end of a one hour group lesson unless they just quit. I've even taught blind skiers -- though because they trust what I am saying and not their own eyes, I've never had one of them fall -- so, I think you can do it. Pick a relatively warm day with soft snow (not slush) for your first time, and it will be extra easy.
I'm no expert skier, haven't been since I was 12. I live near a bunch of ski stations in the Alps now so I want to learn. This video doesn't teach the wedge, since it only seams to be a beginner move, is it wise to just skip it?
@TheCFTube learn the wedge, snowplow, pizza they are all the same thing. Master that before you move on to this. There is no other way to stop for a beginner. First, worry it about making down a mountain. Then, go fast and wedge. Finally, work on the methods shown here for expert mountains.
uhm? as far as Ive been told and allways been doing, the "up and down" movement should be forced by you switching the direction of the skis when exiting a turn. its really nothing you should "provoke" yourself...if u hit a bump when doing that motion at high speed ur fucked! your feet will then not absorb the impact correctly into your hip and, well...goodbye:P
Neither one is better, it all depends on your personal preference. Obviously, skiers are going to say skiing is better and riders are going to say snowboarding is better. I'm a snowboarder, but I can respect the refined skills of a good skier. I've been told that snowboarding is harder to learn but after the basics, one can improve a lot faster. Versus skiing which is easier to learn but harder to become very good at. (I think it is because skiing takes a lot of technique in posture and style)
SKIING! My friend did snowboarding for her 2 or 3 time, and she was on the bunny slope for days. Then my other friend did skiing for her 1st time, and she was doing greens by the end of the day.
i was doing blues on snowboard by the 2nd afternoon decently, snowboarding and skiing are both fun, even when its your first time. The learning curve is definitely steeper at first for snowboarding but once you can start linking basic turns, its soo fun, especially on powder.
wot th fuk is ur problem u dick. obviously im not a retard as u seem less interlectually capable than me from ur comment so i guess ur the retard and also it was A FUKIN SIMPLE QUESTION so u must hav issues in ur life if u get tht angry at a simple question musnt u. o yh and also i dnt think im th one with attitude here do u ?o and u mite wanna seek anger management for ur lil problem u appear to have. and this comment was for th person hu put th video on here um nt u lol.
This is a good and wellpresented series for anyone learning to ski, period. Some years ago french instructors tried to ban danish instructors from their resorts, but that was only because they felt threatened by the talented and friendly danes. That may be the cause of some of the more "serious looking" bad comments from "professionals".
I enjoyed watching these videos for tips, thanks for posting them! I would like to see some "how to" videos for getting back up on the skis after you fall, or get tripped up when you ski inadvertently into deep powder. I just take off the skis, get back up, and start over, but I know there are ways to avoid kicking off the skis in the process.
To be honest I think these little clips are ace, even though they make it look so easy and believe me or not after 10 months without practice, it takes a while to reach the level you had at the end of the last season. anyway nice one thanks for posting these .. off to snowzone now
type in "ski crashes" in the youtube search and click the video with stars in the title to be shocked!

haha, yeah, but they can still stand right up after crashing, if that shows you how much the snow really cushions the pain of the fall.
TKwarrior17 1 year ago
The course of downhill skiing is icy and hard. They spray water on the runs so that the skiers can go down at the maximum speed.
nickia88 1 year ago
in other words, it really doesn't cushion the fall, they're just a bunch of badasses? sweet...
