  • Never liked Borderlands, it doesnt feel like a real wasteland plus I barely feel like im role playing and not having a lot of friendly NPC interaction doesnt help.

  • Loved it but it got a little tiresome after a while

  • next time i see a Toyota Camry im gonna laugh at it.

  • not fun to me. its similar to my type of game but its just not fun

  • lol i got bored of this game like 10 hours in. It wasn't a fail, or a win. It just succeeded in taking 10 of my precious hours of my life. :(

I wish games were more enjoyable like fallout instead of repetitious like this or call of duty :(

I don't know how or why, but i have about 50 days combined in all cod games. That translates to about 1200 hours of my life :(

  • I was playing borderlands for the same reason my character was: to get to the vault. But what happened? You KNOW what happened.

  • Everything he said is pretty much true. It IS very repetitious and if you look at it from that angle, it can be very boring. But I've played this game multiple times, on PC and 360, and it's still a really fun game to me. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time.

But if it didn't have the random gun system, it would be boring. But because of that system, you could be using the same strategy you've been using since level 1, but then you can an accurate corrosive shotgun, and shit changes.

  • Very smart Link..Very. I never honestly noticed this cycle as you did.

  • Great video, awesome game.

I think BL is the best item-based game since Diablo2... Can't wait for BL2 and D3, lol... item craziness!!!!

  • BORDERLANDS IS THE BEST MULTIPLAYER GAME EVER MADE! You newer people just can't see that yet play 200 hours with all the DLC and your friends then say that

  • I really enjoyed borderlands having played through it 3 times with two different classes, but i eventually found the single player boring, an the multiplayer lobbies are just full of modded equipment. Great game overall, shame i never finished any of the DLCs.

  • Truly a great review of the game and the concepts its build on. Well done!!

The Skinner box, or more precisely, the basics of operant conditioning, and radical behaviorism, are truly worth noting in any gaming environment. Altho they are the very basis of many games these days, not many understand the system behind the system.

Sometimes its not much needed to deeply activate huge amount of players, as long as you understand the behavioral functions behind them.

Thank you for the great video =)

  • i hate boredrlands, i think its repedetive and boring and you have to read all the quests and they're all a like

  • i consciously know borderlands is probably the most repetitious game i own but i fucking looooooove it

  • borderlands is 1 of the best games ive ever played. it might be the best! i met almost

the half of my frendslist in borderlands. if u still havnt bought it . get it or i will go to ur house and steal ur fridge

  • It's a unique game and I love the concept. Have taken the platinum trophy on this game. But I'am still some worried about how GearBox seems to be to much locked into this must choice of character in Borderlands 2. I still think they should give players more option of choice and keep the core gameplay aspect untuoched in Borderlands 2. Because I think the Borderlands IP have a lot of potential to grow bigger, only if GearBox giving more options to players to make own characters, for a example.

  • I got bored until I got modded weapons my friends can drop for me and I use the DLC fighting cromerax to rank up

  • borderlands bored the shit out of me after an hour :|

  • love this game to death mixed fallout with halo for me thats where i got hooked

  • i got this game for christmas and i loved it i thought it was going to be crap!

  • Also the story didn't do it for me, again using Bethesda as an example the majority of their RPGs have very well written stories and side quests that really add to the game feel.

Borderlands just feels like a saturday morning cartoon. Oh there's this vault lets find it gang! Oh no! These militants just turned on us! Oh well we'll use the power of friendship to combat them!

I guess the only thing that I really loved about Borderlands was the Co-op.

  • I didn't like Borderlands the second time, it just felt boring and bland.

Unlike most bethesda games multiple run throughs are not interesting as you see and do the same stuff you did last time as opposed to again Bethesda RPGs where you can almost always find something new each time you play.

For example I could play Fallout 3 with a small guns char and go through the game quite easily but then choose to play a melee or unarmed character for more of a challenge.

  • Wasn't very fun to me since I wasn't motivated by the level up or loot systems and I may have been playing torchlight at the time as well

  • i hopped on the borderlands bandwagon for 1 reason....GUNS

  • oh, you watch Extra Credits don't you, yeah, i know you do, skinner box, uhum, everybody knows that...

  • @WatchOutBR

I know about the "Skinner Box" because of psychology classes I've taken...

  • @Linkthe1st to me this game had about 50/50 good and bad, its good because the gameplay is fun,the story is amazing, but playing it 3 times to get to max level is retarded, so i beat the game once already and got to level 30ish, now i gotta start from scratch just to get to like 50, then a third time to get to max level, that's where i think it loses its interest since i already know whats gonna happen, just the mobs are gonna be stronger. share your thoughts

  • this is probably my favorite game, tied with fallout, its like fallout but with multiplayer, and me and my friends love playing it together, we've all beaten it, with every character more than once, its also fun, because its not like a fps like cod, where you just rage quit half ther time because of bs, we can play and have a lot of fun without getting mad

  • Dude, If I met you anywhere, and you talked to me, I would have to give you a handjob and some cash

  • Borderlands was good but it had a crappy story that had no direction and an empty world

  • linkthe1st sence you've done this B10g review have you got to level 50?

  • Borderlands was fun for 15 levels then got old

  • you should do a blog about wow i think that would be intresting unless you already have please tell me how to find it

  • Borderlands is a fun game because it combines the action from FPS which RPGS lacks with RPG elements, making it addicting, fun and not boring.

I specially like it cause of the co-op. One of my friends is one I like to really play co-op games with. And this game is really fun to play with friends.

  • I bought this game in a secondhand shop and I regret my few pounds spent on it.

I don't understand how people find it great; I played with a friend and after 2 hours we were just simply bored... No real plot and the levelling up system doesn't differenciate the characters as much as it could of done..

However, this is just my opinion and would love to like this game.. hence my reason to watch this video (=

  • I played this almost exclusively on multiplayer, but my thoughts on it are: the quests felt pointless, the story felt pointless, the leveling up took too long to distract from the grind, and the guns and enemies seemed too much like the next to make me feel like I was using something new. Overall, I hated it, and even had times when I didn't want to continue playing with my friends due to the lack of interest I had for it.

  • Yo man, you seem pretty educated on alot of RPGs, do you know any other games that use the skinner box technique?

  • @Javis586 the COD multiplayer system

  • everything you said in that video was like one huge intervention for me. i never noticed anything you said but it makes absolute sense now.

  • Oh, man. I love one thing you DIDN'T mention about Borderlands:

    PLAY-THROUGH NUMBAH TWO! :D

Yeah. Borderlands has it. Lv. 36 Soldier named Sig, ventures off into a Deja-Vu fest that is still fun for me. Yeah.

Anyways, reasons I keep playing games mainly are: Achievements, different outcomes (not all the time though), leveling (of course), and pretty much just how much I enjoy RPGs. I noticed it was like Diablo, because of the way the loot system works. Just got it, getting DLC soon! :D

  • they should make a new borderlands but less easy to mod

  • i found it a tedious game, where i was grinding with mates to reach there level the experience was lacklustre and tiresome. However the controls are tight the ascetic is pleasing witch make up for the poor story and "grind feast" that makes up game play.

  • My 2 cents: Cool game, liked it a bit and may go back to it, but it didn't capture me in the end; I felt bored by the repetitiveness and the general atmosphere of the charred cartoon waste was a constant downer.

(Tho Im a fan of Fallout's wasteland...so go figure :S)

  • I just got Borderlands for the PS3 as part of that whole deal they offered. Let me say that I am enthralled and everything you said is true but never the less keeps the game very fun. I understand that once the story ends, you can restart will all of your level and gear. This replay value is something I really enjoy in a game with role playing elements.

  • i love the game my only problem is that i cant redownload it

  • it's a love/hate situation with Borderlands and me.

  • i love borderlands, and now i realise why xD It's probably my favourite game of all time

  • i know what a blog is. a review and i know what a review is, it's a blog. I actually watched the video you posted before this one, and read a comment, and i thought it was clever. But, is it intentional?

  • @elcamo11

I don't intend to talk about games in a "was it good or bad" manner. I try to talk about the nuts and bolts of games that makes them succeed or fail. The little picture in relation to the big picture if you will.

So don't ever ask me to review games, because I don't review, I blog. Two different things that cross paths, but never start or finish in the same places.

  • I F**KING LOVE BORDERLANDS!!!

  • i have over 1000 guns in this game but its anoyyning to scroll all the down

  • My experince with borderlands: First, i haven't completed it (fallout 3/new vegas took my time away) but it's an awesome game that pushes the player's greed-button. Meaning you want to get more cash, a better shield and a kickass weapon. And then try and find an even better version of your favorite shield type (rapid healing/resistance or just have a shield that soaks more damage) and a weapon with a little more kick. For my last words, i really like the comic-like graphic.

    :)

  • Borderlands fans! Gearbox has recently copyrighted the title 'Borderworlds'! Holy shit.

  • @XxShadowOfAgesxX borderworlds isfake

  • @XxShadowOfAgesxX Hehe, "recently" isn't really the word I would say. They did that about 2 years ago I think

  • Do you have any plans on making a comprehensive borderlands class guide? I know it's a bit late now, but it would be awesome!

  • My Borderlands Experience: When i started Borderlands: =D, mid way through: =), when i started fighting Crimson Lance: =|, when i started fighting the aliens: =(, when i got to the Final Boss: =D, after i beat the Final Boss: =C, when i got money to buy the DLC: =D, after DLC1, 2 & 3(zombies, Moxxy & Knoxx): =D, after DLC4(Claptrap): =), when i realized no more DLC: D"X, Now: MAKE MORE DLC OR A SEQUEL!!!!!

  • I didn't enjoy this game nearly as much as fallout.

  • call of dudy make FPS sux

  • And tons of fun with friends

  • Borderlands FTW

  • I believe the reason players keep coming back is that constant chance (albeit very slight later on in the game) that you can get better and better equpment...It makes players want to keep coming back in hopes that they will find new and exciting weapons and equipment to kill waves of enemies with your friends...or by yourself. It also reinforces playing with other people in that people are able to get more reward by playing cooperatively.

  • @Quick2Snipe100 You also get more cash, more exp and BETTER loot when other joins the game (though enemy difficulty raises as well).

  • I just like Borderlands, but unfortunatedly I noticed the running around thing, doing same kind of quests and got bored at level 37

  • Huhooo yay i missed this and got two linkthe1st vids at the same time foos!

  • skagfest 2008

  • Your voice is better than sex.

  • @RAPTORGORAWR and thats why im masturbating

  • @RAPTORGORAWR lol

  • @RAPTORGORAWR you're creepy.

  • its like a world of warcraft shooter

  • Hey Linkthe1st...Do you like empire building games and i mean real ones, not rome total war like i mean Europa universals lll , Hearts of iron and Victoria. Note that i mean real hardcore strategy games where every day you have to think that are you soppused to make an all frontal assult on the enemy, thus risking an ambush or making an surprise attack by navy and not games like warcraft or empire earth. I just wondered since what i have learnt from about you, you like to do tactics.

  • The game is good...though grinding for hours upon hours in that game becomes boring after awhile...still fun though.

  • border lands is the most addicting game i ever made

  • thumbs up if this game made u want to play this again!!

  • This game is one of THE BEST games of all time along with fallout 3 and Mass Effect 2.

  • Borderlands is a good game.

  • Heres my two cents *insert 2 cents here*

  • i love rpgs but borderlands showed me the differences between good ones and bad ones borderlands is an example of the ones i hate because of the running around in a circle doing the same thing over and over again

  • Love it

  • yep, this sure was a fun and addictive game... you are right, the loot and leveling up makes the game much more fun....anybody know if there is a sequel to this title coming out anytime soon???

  • All expansions and two playthroughs, im way too addicted

  • Borderlands is my favorite game, and after seeing this video i kinda regret that my friend talked me in to sell it, i hav the save with powerfull guns and my powerfull charachter, not many people like the berserker class, but hes my favorite^^

  • well id have to say I FUCKING LOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEE THIS GAME!!!!!

  • Yo I dunno if u take suggestions or anythin but can ya make more oblivion vids? Like how to make spells n shit

  • RPGs are amazing. FPSs are great. RPG FPSs are epic.

  • great game, not to keen on the art style though

  • Subscribed :D

  • love your work dude.

  • Can you make some sort of strategy guide for this game?

  • I couldn't stop playing when I first got the game, but then I beat it and that took the whole point out of the game for me.

  • I found a lvl 50 requirement gun at lvl 12 >.>

  • I believe that it is a great game because it utilizes RPG style gaming with action first person shooter into a great game. Combat is fun, being able to determine what guns are good for what type of field, the stats of a gun (RPG Style) and the massive variety of guns just in there is increadible. Overall score?? 9/10

My only problem is that it takes a few seconds for the graphics to load... but honestly, who cares? The game will suck you in and make you almost completely forget it.

  • I love borderlands! its so fun i have had it since it came out last year and it has kept me busy with the dlcs im glad it raised the level cap and had 4 different characters that i just now stopped playing it to find out that the second borderlands is coming out next year

  • And co-op was the only reason I got this game.

  • you still doing the Let's play?

  • dude you're such a fantastic narrator. i'd listen to you read a phone book. Please put out more videos.

  • I fucking love RPG what you tawkin bout fool

  • @simplyrandom12

I never said anything bad about RPGs, what you talkin bout foo?

  • @Linkthe1st fool you all use fool to much fool

  • @MrGmod13 Fo shizzle!

  • @Linkthe1st lol

  • @Linkthe1st I love how you describe everything, usually I get bored with watching these kind of videos but not with yours. Also would you also describe borderlands as a cell-shaded fallout 3?

  • shexy voice

  • I only just got borderlands and I can't say I'm too hooked in it. I can see that it's certainly unique, but the art style is something that I do not fancy. It's like they made outdated game and decided to add cell shading to brush it up a bit. Like releasing something like Morrowind today with cell shading.

I didn't think the game was bad though, and I'll certainly be playing it more.

  • This is one of my favourite games, although some quests are repetitive but it is still very fun to play, especially in co-op, also, i like the graphics because i'm getting bored of realistic graphics, because almost every game follows the same damn thing!

  • I liked it a lot, but my problem with it was that it lost its feel really soon, already considering that I play 3 other (MMO)RPGs almost exactly like Borderlands.

  • The older FPS's and RPG's are the best, although a few games are exceptions...

  • Is it wrong to like both FPS and RPG?

  • Its a fun game on the first couple of playthroughs, but quickly loses its luster and intrigue after that

  • never tried it, i did not like the whole theme and look to it

  • so far i have been in the lower levels from 20-25 and some guns are still hard to find, in all i like to play as a vault hunter but fallout is my game of choice hope to see some new vegas dlc revews soon.

  • Just a tip to everyone: DO NOT EVER use modded weapons. I promise you it ruins the game =/

  • most like boringlands...

  • it was fun with 4 people, not so much solo

  • i got bored with it the first time i beat it

  • ironically i just bought this game 2 weeks ago LOL nice!

  • borderlands is a great game, espeally the four add-on packs for the game

  • Is this game worth buying? I love fallout games.

  • @puppetmaster4149 I love the Fallout universe as well, and I really want the game. It seems extremely fun, and like he says, the rewards are, well, rewarding. I would recommend this to Fallout fans.

  • what are your thoughts on mass effect 2?

  • great video whats the specs of your computer

  • well i beat it with every character two playthroughs each after that it finally lost value

  • A bit too repetitive for me, the only way to be refreshed was too start with a new character, and even that stays fun for a little bit. Great game, not as much replay value as I thought it would have

  • Borderlands could have looked so much better and with the looks alone it probably would have gotten better ratings from people. I loved that game, the co-op was amazingly fun even when there was a massive level difference between you and your friends. I just wish the developers would have kept the original, realistic art style.

  • borderlands was an awesome game for a while till i level capped. but fallout 3 is still the best game ever. they need to make another falout

  • boraderland kinda hurts my eyes is there a way to make it less harsh?

  • I loved this game and I still do beat all 3 playthroughs and dlcs :D

  • Love this new series.

  • I played this game for ever i am a level 69 (last rank in the game) and i come back to my game and my save file was gone! ALMOST 30 HOURS of gameplay GONE! -.-

  • rpg/ rps are getting huge if you have xbox or ps3 look at the top rated games to download on xbox the #1 spot is fallout 3 #2 is oblivion!!!

  • I love Borderlands, I was having fun with it until I got my hands on modded weapons, after that it wasn't fun.

  • I think the mix of RPG and FPS make for one hell of a great game in borderlands. How ever like many game wink use skinner box Mechanics I can only play it for so long before I get sink of doing them same things over and over. How ever the game feel rewording and i come back to it mouths latter . what it need was more variety in it game play .

  • @Linkthe1st you should do one of these on Mass Effect 2. I'd like to hear your thoughts on that game.

  • @NailsAndGasoline I think he's only doing it on games that have wide spread mixed opinions.

  • Borderlands is like a mix of diablo and fallout

  • Borderlands for me, was a great game . Not only it intoduced me to RPG mechanics, which for me a long time ago was the stupidest and boring thing ever, but also was something unique from the (also) ever repetitive FPS in the market.

  • We need borderlands 2!!!

  • Deus Ex.

  • im a call of duty and FPS and 3PS or any shooter like game but i do play RPG's i love mass effect 2 fallout 3 and new vegas final fantasy and even tales of veperia and borderlands may not be my fav game ever that belongs to uncharted 2 but it is my most adictided game its juat one of those games u dont wnt to put down

  • The problem with borderlands is that all information about your character is stored client side. This allows for creating your own godlike overpowered weapons and armor enhancements that make you into a god. Borderlands is a loot based game as all you're really doing is scurrying the lands for better loot. This feeling is ultimately lost when you have people coming into your game with shotguns that 1 shot anything and everything.

  • The amount of bugs in this game... that's all I've got to say. XD

  • Love the blog, that "Or is it?" at the end just killed me. As for the game,(PS3 experience) well it's just flooded with modded guns with most of them being waaay OP(Shotgun shooting midgets) but the thing that bother me is connection quality, I play mostly with US gamers and being in four ppl party only one from EU connection can be very annoying with delays and all that. Overall game is awesome and recommend to everyone but nonetheless this game got some issues.

  • there was nothing outstandingly wrong with this game, the only thing i didn't like was that it can take literally days to hit the lvl cap.

  • i liked the game but playing alone seems boring and i cant connect my console to the internet so i can only play couch co op wich is fun but that tiny screen can make the game a lot harder especialy for someone like me who has bad eye sight

  • i loved modded guns and co op great game

  • I didn't play it =)

  • I loved this game when it came out. It occupied my interests for well over 2-3 months and i would play it with my friends for countless hours. Although i started to get extremely bored with it which is hugely disappointing because it is a very fun game.

  • The thing that kept me coming back was co-op

  • this game gave me a very unique experience, when i started out i was very clueless and weak then i started getting better and started to look up guns and saw the chimera, i was obsessed with this gun and spent months trying to find one, and that was my only hook to the game. Now when i try to play it i cant get through the claptrap dlc without getting bored and its a shame too cause this is a great game.

  • It is a good game, but I did not enjoy it as much on my second playthrough.

  • the game is good during the mainstory line, but after that it lost its luster

    a 8/10 is what i say.

  • I never did play this game, but the only reason was because none of my friends were interested in it, and I didn't want to play solo, or with random little kids online. It looks really cool though, I may play Borderworlds regardless.

  • I honestly got really tired of finding the same old weapons over and over again. While you do find something that is amazing occasionally, it's not enough to keep me hooked.

  • Borderlands was quite enjoyable for me, the combat was pretty cool, leveling up gives you a sense of reward, and obtaining rare and powerful items was also it's own reward as well. The amount of enemies mostly consist of humans or raiders, which is disappointing since your on a hostile alien planet. Borderlands gives you a sensation of being an actual treasure hunter without being a treasure hunter. Searching for mythical vault while leaving bodies of crazies and bandits, is borderlands.

  • it was ok plAYING through at first, but it gets really boring really fast. its true that they have some things that resemble WoW, such as dueling and talen trees, but its not as fun because majority of the time its a large desolate wasteland that turns into a bother to walkthrough if someone blew up your caR

  • loved it until i completed it and realized past the zombie dlc nothing would be new about it and after 10 playthroughs in like 2weeks it was stale

  • I loved the game it was a bit short even with all of the dlc. I think it would've been a far better game if it wasn't for all the modders and hackers influencing the community.

  • Awesome vid bro

  • borderlands is somewhat unique, i wouldnt favor it but its a good game

  • i loved borderlands, but you did point out a lot facts i would never have noticed otherwise.

  • I personally love borderlands, you summed up almost everything i would have said about the game so you did a great job commentating this video. Although I felt really bummed after i finished the game simply because I WANTED to carry on this cycle of leveling up and finding better loot, and after i reached top level during the DLC's, even when i had not finished them all, I quickly got bored and saw no other reason to play. Because of this I never finished the cl4ptp revolution DLC

  • why do you do older games?

  • @jchildhuntings What "GOOD" new FPS/RPGS/ANYTHING are there now. Lets face it. all this black ops and that just aint that good. I mean like look at machinima go on REALM: atleast 1 black ops video every day RESPAWN: nearly all of it is Black ops. And the same with original machinima

  • @TheEcospark and its sad since Black Ops is one of the worst online multiplayer games Ive ever played, with the worst spawning system in any game Ive ever played.

  • @TheEcospark i was not saying that it was a bad game just that its from 2009

  • Once you get through the game's story, you've pretty much seen all there is to see in the game, so besides trying out a new character, there's no reason to go through it again. If Gearbox is planning to make a Borderlands 2, I have no problem with it. I personally want to see some engaging storyline that is different depending on the character you chose. I also want to see more than just three types of environments, since Borderlands only had barren wastelands, shanty towns, and snowy mountains.

  • I think RPG's are amazing games, they're much better than FPS's.

  • @VWVwacko i dont think so in most RPGs you just swing a sword at a bad guy till you or he dies.

  • :D
