I was at the wheel when this was filmed. The cup holder in these cars doesn't fit a super big gulp very well and I was steering with my knee trying to shift left handed while holding my beverage. That may explain the missed apex.
It was like autocrossing a station wagon. I was the one driving it. I had a passenger and just ran out of elbow room, when it started to step out I just could not move quick enough without breaking her ribs.
Is it just me or do some of the down shifts sound really amateur? its like hes not even blipping the throttle and just letting the clutch out slowly. Nice video though!
I remember circa 1974, there was a porsche 917L for $25k and a 917-30 (with spare engine) for $60k advertised in the back pages of Road and Track magazine.
Certainly one of the greatest cars ever made.
Great to see it running again in Canada

The Porsche 917... Overpowered, Twitchy Handling, and Unsafe. This is truly a real driver's car.

mission raceway is not a very big track. Man that car is overkill for the track.

I still think it's the most evil, nasty, best race car ever produced.

Why do people have to talk when they have no idea?
Porsche with the 917 and Ferrari with the 512 used a loophole in the rulebook building 5 litre "prototypes"
The sense of the rules were production cars, which was achieved by fitting a suitcase in some part of the car and 25 units had to be build at least.

O melhor carro de competição de todos os tempos.
guerra302v8 4 years ago
nope, it's a flat12 and it's losely based on 2 fused 911 eleven engines.
AND learn how to spell dumbass.
blokjekaas 4 years ago 2
Actually it's based on 1.5 of the 908 8 cylinder engines, not one single part or design is 911 based.

he blips the throttle more then enough.
As said, the 917 is nothing like a modern car, let alone youre daily driver
then again, its so valuable
