@crumbnick That is absolute nonsense. I ride a sport bike with an inline four and recently bought a '74 Moto Guzzi Eldorado. The only time you feel any gyroscopic effect is when you rev it at idle, and it's barely perceptible. The myth of the engine "steering the bike" is perpetuated by people who either A) have never ridden a Moto Guzzi or B) people who have no riding skill.
And technically speaking, it's a longitudinal engine, as the crankshaft runs parallel to the driveshaft.
