I just watched Anne's Shoe Tutorial(all three parts) and I think she had a good idea to model it on a real shoe(for shaping, etc) Christopher Garren has a beautiful platform shoe that he does that I wish I knew how to do. I think he had a mold made off of a, like, size 4 high heel shoe or something and they simply mold gumpaste platform, then heel and then work rest of shoe around it. I am going to go to payless and get a cheap shoe and try it with clay molding/putty stuff...will post if succe
Hi and thank you! Glad you liked it. I charge per serving depending on the type of decoration. If I remember correctly, I think I charged around $7/slice for this cake. That included the topper. :0)
Absolutely beautiful cake! I always enjoy watching your videos, you're a real inspiration. Could you tell me how you transfered the cake from the decorating table to the cake board without doing any damage to the cake or the icing on the cake board? I'm making my first novelty cake (a shoebox cake) next month and I'm worried about moving the cake once i've finished constructing it! Thx :-)
Hi & thank you! Well, besides being extremely careful (LOL!) I have a large Wilton tool that is a flat aluminum sheet and has a large yellow handle on one end. This allows you to slide the whole aluminim section under the cake and lift it evenly so that you don't damage the icing. You can find these in the cake decorating aisle at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. :0) Good luck with your cake! I'm sure it'll rock! :0)

Just thought about how the piece would look flat. Drew it out on paper so I at least had an idea what it SHOULD look like... LOL! Then I just tried over and over and over again until it came out. :) It was a HUGE challenge but it felt so good when I figured it ou! :)
Thank you! Haha! Yes, pinkboxcake put up their part 2 the day after I finished my cake.LOL! It wouldn't have been much help any way since the heel they made is a strappy heel. I"m just happy I was able to figure it out. :)
How in the world did you cut out that label??? It is so detailed. I have trouble cutting out easy letter to look nice. You just used an exacto??? It looks like it was done on a cutter (cricket) Nice job. Any help with the letters would be awsome. If you could email me that would be great. I love how you do our videos in an all black backround. Do you go back and edit a black backround? Thanks so much.
Oh, Didi u make a template for the top of the shoe?
Yes, believe it or not, just an Xacto knife! LOL! I just googled the Loubouton logo and saved the pic on a memory stick and went to my local cake supply where they printed it out on edible paper for me. Glad you liked it! It WAS a pain in the butt! LOL! For the black background I just hang some black material on a carboard project board. Sorry, no template... Just made it by pure guessing. :)
Hi! At first I had planned to make the tissue paper a lot wavier by supporting it with scrunched up paper towels and such. But once I started adding the gumpaste I realized that if the tissue paper stuck up too much, it really wouldn't look like tissue paper, rather more like a basket! LOL! So I decided to abort my plan. I had already colored the gumpaste and didn't want it to go to waste. I did make sure to tell the client not to eat it. Just to peel it off along with the box lid. :)
Well it turned out amazing! Can you tell me where you got the shoes and what brand they are in case I decide to try this myself? And did you use a smaller size?
Thanks a lot! The shoes were bought at some cheapo store. LOL! Almost like a swap meet or something! I paid $7 for the shoes. Can you believe it? You can literally use ANY high heel. The brand of these were Xotchil. :)
I'm trying to get caught up on videos and I see this one... Oh yeah! Awesome!!! I was so excited to see this girl! I am trying to make a shoe and the heel is difficult! I am begging for a tutorial:) Please:) Pretty please:oD A tut for the whole shoe? I haven't found a good one for the box either. I need a lot of details:)
Thank you for the tutorials you are about to make:D Luvya!
Hi Laura! Miss you too! I'm doing well and finally having some time to check out videos posted and to post one too (posted one of cakes i've made recently). Have a cake coming up but can't do a video because I lost my voice to laryngitis. Hehe. Glad to hear you're doing great! Tc!
Thank you Ariel! I'm SO happy you liked this cake! I will definitely be making a tutorial on the shoe once I get really good at it... If not it'll end up being on the funniest home videos! LOL! :)
I wish this video was made before the weekend cause my sister tried making the shoe on Saturday and was so frustrated over it! If we had the video, she would have been more prepared (she didn't end up making the shoe anymore and just settled with a shoebox).
Thank you! Glad you liked it! :) I've never made a ballerina slipper before but I have a feeling it should be a heck of a lot simpler than this high heel! LOL! :))
I have done a couple of shoes but yours is the most realistic shoe cake I have seen. I really thought it WAS the real model.
You did great! Unfortunately, I didn't have guidance for mine so I had to muddle through by instincts. There were lots of mistakes but my client was thrilled.
Right on Laura! What's funny is the shoe you made and the advertisment on the side of the Youtube screen was the same shoe! LOL! It looked exactly like it :)
Yeah, but there is a different advertisment everytime you come to this page. It just so happened that is was those the first time I watched this! LOL!
Awesome Cake Laura,Loved this one too.The shoe is perfect!! Maybe sometime you could show us a tutorial on Gumpaste shoe :) Am sure the birthday girl must have been thrilled to see her surprise cake.Great work!!!
Wow Laura, what a fabulous shoe! I love the entire cake and look of it of course, but I really am very impressed with that shoe. 9th time lucky! Can't wait for the second pat of the pinkbox tutorial, and looking forward to maybe seeing on from you too!
Thank you! Sure! I'll be happy to make a tutorial once I figure out what the heck I did! LOL! It was all a blurr to be frank. Thanks sweetheart! It's good to struggle because that means that each time we do the same thing, it's gonna get easier and easier and easier! Once you learn how to do it, you learn it for GOOD! LOL! Glad you liked this cake! :)

Hi Laura:
I just have one question: Why did you choose to make the tissue paper out of gumpaste rather than fondant?
Thanks!
LavenderLaneBakingCo 2 years ago
