Alternate palm mutes with open strokes, silence strings, combine fast picking with slow picking (all in 1 compass to give a sensation of rage, speed and paranoia).
The BEST guitarrist from my country (Paco de Lucía - search for him) states that "the right hand dominates the left hand".
Plus, it's only my oppinion... But I'd rather hear a slow feeling-packed 2 minute solo than a really fast shredding one... It's just the way I like it, though.

And practice more hammers/pull-offs, alternate-picking can sometimes ruin your tone

U'd be amazed at what I can play with using some skill with my right hand and a few movements of my left hand :P
