What Ford should have done is import the Ford Terrirory SUV from Australia. It's based on the REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE Falcon platform and is powered by a 4.0L DOHC inline-6 with about 300hp stock and 400hp turbocharged. It's a unibody, but at least it's RWD as God intended. F**K FWD! FWD is for sissyboys, momma's boys, and soccer moms! Real men drive REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE. And that's how it is folks.

My '94 Explorer 4x4 has this system. So does my sister's '05 Explorer. They both have low range transfer cases and when 4WD is engaged, all four wheels drive the vehicle. Hence the term "Four Wheel Drive".

@quatlen I take my Mountaineer (Explorer's sister) off road It's shorter and not as long as the Expedition making it more manageable in woods and in the parking lot. It's a more sensible choice I love the Excursion and the Expedition but they are just to much car for me.
@MrSponge1985 I have to agree I've been in both the Excursion and Expedition and they ride like typical large SUV's. I have an Excursion that I use to tow my camper, it does 7MPG while towing and 11MPG while it isn't towing. That is part of why the Excursion was discontinued and also why the Expedition is expected to be discontinued in 2013.

( ranger) in -12 degrees F. The truck started right up with out any hessitation or long start period. the jap car would always start intermently in the winter and actually in any kind of weather just more so in the cold weather.

Its not like its uncommon for auto companies to get into trouble the only reason why Toyota didn't take a bail out is because Japan and Europe bailed them.
Atleast they honored their debt and paid it.

This thing has a similar 4WD system as the Escape. Since I use my Escape as an off roader, it's yet to let me down.
But, a 4WD system doesn't have anything to do with getting out of mud. That all has to do with the proper tires.

Its totally pointless trying to disguise a concept American car. The European and japanese cars that have been on the market 10 years are already ahead of this. It will have terrible build quality, poor design and reliability. This is why the US gov has to keep throwing good monmey at bad American car companies to keep them afoat. @DevPack , definetely. ive had a jap car and a well repsected one at that. but i will not say the name of it because im not trying to bash any car companies here but i must say i have a ford now and it is a tough truck. ( ranger) in -12 degrees F. The truck started right up with out any hessitation or long start period. the jap car would always start intermently in the winter and actually in any kind of weather just more so in the cold weather.

I wouldnt say the real explorer is done yet. I don't think its going to look like a ford freestyle. Ford could possibly come out with somthing nice. Everyone is going crossover now. The grand cherokee and durango will be crossovers too in 2011

i agree, a unibody? if i want that i will get a car or an escape, one of the main points of getting an suv is so i get that ladder chassis, which is good for offroading and especially hauling, this would be a big mistake if ford did this.

Toyota's new CEO Toyoda admitedly blames the previous Toyota CEO for the shameful loss in quality standards over the years. Ford is also slowly churning out a profit thanks to Alan Mulallys leadership at Ford. I'm a Honda guy myself. I currently own a RSXs and love it, but Ford is no longer junk, kid.

Its not like its uncommon for auto companies to get into trouble the only reason why Toyota didn't take a bail out is because Japan and Europe bailed them.
Atleast they honored their debt and paid it.
G.M. already said they won't pay back the bail out money.

Do you know what subsidies are? They are not loans like the "bail out" was intended to be for GM and Chrysler. GM not honoring their loan is a totally different matter from that of Toyota. The USA is a free market economy.
Toyota did not accept "bail out" money. They are subsidized by their government, like auto manufacturers in other socialist democracies, to protect their industries.
It's a matter of economic security and national pride for their engineering and manufacturing sectors.
