  • Watch at 1.18 his confidence in guiding the ball in between three fielders.... simply amazing.......

  • Damn I wish I was alive in the '70s and the '80s...DX Quite marvellous!

  • Gawaskar was a much better batsman than Sachin Tendulkar. Because Sunny never wore a Helmet. He always kept his brilliant eyes on the ball hence was able to keep even the fastest balls away from his head. If Gawaskar could played today,s rush of cricket, he would made tons of scores than other players scoring now. He is great son of India.

  • A message to all SMG fans:-

Sunny's episode on 'ESPN Legends of Cricket' is up on the cricinfo website. It's fantastic. Check it out if you haven't already. Cheers!

  • was that david lloyd at 0.46

  • To all those who think that Gavaskar was unsporting ... He was given out incorrectly .. on top of that the English abused him ...Gavaskar walked off not happy .. but he only called off the non-striker on being abused .. not just because he was given out ...

  • Just a correction. It wasn't the English, it was the Australians and Lillee abused him.

  • What a little cry baby. He got a bad decision, big deal.

  • As a cricketer Gavaskar emerges unique. To Indian cricket, he added steel and spine, apart from the runs and hundreds, of which he made plentiful and everywhere in all kinds of conditions and situations.

But in the Indian context, Gavaskar meant more than just runs and hundreds. His very presence in the middle provided emotional and psychological security beyond the cricket field. Like Tendulkar, he was not just another player, but a metaphor of the country's aspirations and hopes.

  • Being Pakistani, naturally I'm a Pak fan but I'm also huge fan of Sunil Gavaskar - a Master class batsmen with impeccable mannerisms. Yesterday was his 60th birthday so happy B'day to the legend.

  • I think he is the best.

  • sunil gavaskar is the one of the world best batsman ever produced.. also great test opener..

  • Sunny is a star as Richie Benaud, Tony Lewis, Bob Willis and Ray Illingworth have pointed out.

  • y would u say that about a guy who score over 10000 test runs

  • Sounds like you are on a political agenda!

  • You can trust your life on Sunil Gavaskar 's bat. Watch him bat and you would learn the classical way of batsmanship.

  • checkout the stroke at 0.54sec & pause at 1:02. I have always believed that as a batsman for temprament , technique & the singleminded pursuit of runs, he had just one equal..Sir Geoff.

How many times did they save India and England ? Countless times..any takers?

  • Sunny was one of the technically best batsman in cricketing history

  • Pause at 1:02 and you'll see why he was called the "Little" Master!

    Great batsman!

  • I am australian cricket fan , I loved to watch sunil bat wonderful batting action great gutsy player , I always admired his batting talent, bring back the 1970,s please.

  • I am an Indian cricket lover...Great player Gavaskar was... But your Chappell brothers, Doug Walters and Allan Border were excellent as well.

Indeed, back to the 1970s..Oh wait, I wasn't even born then :)

  • man him and tendulkar were born in mumbai just like me i feel so proud lol

  • What a wonderfully talented batsman....pity his legacy to the game of cricket will be remembered for his ridiculous walk off after a decision he didnt like and his outlandish statements of opposing nations and underperforming Indian cricket teams....bitter twisted man.

  • Is Lillee remembered for his antics on the field and aluminium bat etc .. I dont think so and so will not be Gavaskar for just being frank. My father has been a journo for the last 30 yrs. He tells me time and again about how English and Aus cricketers and journalists wud come and make fun of us. You guys dictated terms in cricket. All tours were decided at ur own will. Indians never had a say in anything. And now with our emerging and confident middle class, we want to dictate terms.

  • Im not sure where SA tours fit in with my comment, but I wont detract my comments re: Gavaskar- he was a brillant batsman, but he does have a history of making outlandish statements that dont help the game at all. As far as dictating the game goes, well that should only happen on the field and India have a wonderful cricket side at the moment, no one country should run the game of the field, all cricket nations should be represented and have a say.

  • I find it funny how two countries that even supported playing SA during the apartheid era even claim to choose a higher moral ground. Our sense of history is very different from urs. Respect shall be met by respect and villainy by villainy

  • hasmuj, oye Behen ke lode, Austtralia mein kya maiya chudwane aye ho...................
