@az0959122 basically,. the only person i knew personally was my friend Albert from Taiwan. even the four people i jumped over were just good acquaintances that i met that day. very kool of them to let me jump over them, hehehe. Albert was one of the only people that made the jump, but not without a few good crashes. kid had some guts for being his first time sledding ever. no real significant snow in taiwan.
@Kramer45042 Sorry for the reply delay. holidays get me distracted. Yes I am Strapped to the board. it is a kneeboard as used behind a boat. the strap fits over your knees and can be as tight or loose as you want it. I think I will have to do a video showing off my board some day... especially since not all kneeboards work well. some of the super cheap ones have textured bottoms that don't slide very fast. that is the only thing to look out for really when looking at kneeboards for snow
what kind of sleds are you guys using because me and my friends made a ramp about the same size on a hill about that size and we werent gettin air any where close to what you guys are gettting
Just a cheap, smooth bottomed, plastic kneeboard like the ones used for water behind the boat. i would bet i was getting more speed due to the sled style and/or the hill angle. some of the crashes in the video were done on other sleds. and those sleds could not clear the gap. there were two kids that had a flexible foam kind of sled, but they had to get a running start and also i filled in the gap a bit by the time they came for safety since kids were not clearing it
1:30 to 1:40, 1:57 and 3:12 are shots of the "flexible foam sled" that i mentioned that could make it too, BUT ONLY with a running start. the crash on 1:57 is an example of that style of sled with No running start. no initial significant speed/momentum was necessary for the kneeboard. check the other comments bellow too about the kneeboard and the snow specific mad river rockets
Check out the record for sledding grind on a mad river rockets and a whole bunch of others vids at zenbynature on you tube. Mad River Rockets are so awsome i can stop on a dime just like snowboards and skis. LOL those boards are so funny you might be right on the faster thing though but the control thing makes up for the lack. Mad river rockets are definately faster then most sleds but those look fast
nice crash in your vid zenbynature. my rail skills definitely aint up to par and probably never will be. there might be a possibility i judged the mad river rockets as "slower" when i was actually just feeling uncomfortable, or rather just not feeling used to the ride.
Yeah im not sure if they are or not theres a video we have up also where we are flying down a hill real fast in the woods its called extreme sledding 3 you should check it out under zenbynature. do your sleds turn or only go straight in fast speeds, cause they look fast and id love one for racing people lol.
just a cheap plastic kneeboard i got at a garage sale. look for ones that are smooth on the bottom with not too many bottom features. i've never tried to turn a lot with it actually. always focused on building and hitting the ramps. I steer probably half and half leaning and dragging a hand on either side. the two jumps starting from 0:39 in the video i do a sliding stop. that would be the best example of THAT board's ability. maybe the fancier kneeboards are better? but im not dropin $ 2 c
It is just a cheap plastic O'Brien Kneeboard with a smooth bottom (avoid the textured bottom ones) I think they are easy to handle, but most everyone else that got on it experienced otherwise as you can see in the vid. I think it is because they didn't ease their way into it and just went for it. Mad river rockets are built on the kneeboard concept but specifically for snow... but i thought my kneeboard was faster in my opinion. plus you can use the knee board in the summer on the lake!
Ohh and cheap kneeboards like the one i use in the video are often easy to find for a couple of buck$ at yard sales or used stores. that's where i got mine. a foam ball or some foam fun-noodles can be sandwiched behind your knee between your thigh and butt for extra comfort and shock absorbtion. and to keep the heels of your boots rubbing and potentially tearing into your snow pants
i can steer the kneeboard quite a bit actually. not as much as skis or snowboard, but deffinately more than a conventional sled. have to give a Mad R R another try if i run into someone that has one again.
thanks. maybe i'll get out and make another this year. livin in the desert (lake powell) i dont get to sled often... which is one reason why i use the kneeboard.
I tried one (mad river rocket) once on the same hill, but to the side of the jump for a trial run. It did not feel like it was going as fast as the kneeboard i was using so i did not trust it, not on my jump anyway. I was being really conservative with my jumps (li'l to no tricks, just controlled straight airs). i worry too much about getting hurt i guess and recently my daughter was born. couldn't have me all banged up with a family, work, and school. ;)
I have also seen this "new" (but expensive) binding that mounts to any snowboard that makes it like a kneeboard... kinda kool, but i am not around snow enough to buy that gear. I like the idea of the mad river rockets but i keep thinking that a better design could be made, like something with more flex in it, somewhere between the existing product and a snowboard or something. but i also do recognize it is a new thing, so i can't judge it too harshly. I'll have to give one a try another day
note to anyone who watches: for some reason this video has a bit of a glitch, it pauses half way through. just make sure to press play again. You don't want to miss the crash section!!
So funny if the sled went through the jump and owned the camera mans face !!!
