umm Mazda has never contracted with KIA you are full of crap..Mazda has always been mazda until Ford bought them... Mazda is Japan....KIA is Korean so you F'd up the mazda by installing a KIA motor....why didnt you consider installing rotory power? it can be done. oh before you say no man kia builds motors for mazda your wrong i was a mazda salesman they dont! Ford and mazda do swap ideas and motors but not KIA

@alanrstepp1 first of all salesmen dont know more than mazda technicians. I am a certified mazda technician and the 1999-2000 Kia sephia is basically a mazda protege. It uses the same suspension/ subframes front and rear including brakes. The motor is a BP05 found in the 90-94 Protege LX , Miata1.8L, etc.the only difference on the motors is that Mazda casted Kia's name on the cyl head. The Kia sephia 5speed is a upgrade to the 90-94 cause the internals are stronger and axles are beefer

@alanrstepp1 Also the Kia sportage uses A mazda 2.0L FE3 motor which is similar to the 1.8L BP05 except its larger in overall size. The FE3 motor was developed in the early 90's way before Kia ever devloped any cars. Do some research before you talk trash about something you have not the slightest idea about.

@alanrstepp1 Ford Festiva/KIA Pride/Mazda 121. All the same car. The B3 in a Festiva is Mazda. The "KIA" motor this guy is using is a Mazda BP out of a late 90's KIA Sephia.

So is this the all Kia engine 1.8 or the Mazda BP 1.8? What year Sephia was this engine originally in and what transmission did you use? Was a special adapter plate used to connect the engine to the rwd transmission?

This Mazda has a Kia Sephia 1.8L engine mated to a Kia Sportage Manual Transmission and a little inventiveness to obtain the project!!
