juat a quick message to the two arguing over the 'best French troops' For one: Statistically France has the highest success rate of campaigns in history. ( fact ) two: Until I see either one of you fighting a Legion trooper then you can both shut your mouths'! La Legion is 'elite' because the majority of its troopers are taught to fight on all terrains, not like specialist troops like the Naval Commando's etc. To try to compare is pathetic. Legion troopers are frontline fighters you fools!

Oh yes. I forgot about the French Commandos. They managed to board a Greenpeace ship 40 years ago. Mighty Heros all, This the only thing theyve done, and theyre very proud of it. As for the 25% French makeup of the legion, You really are either completley unable to interprate english, or your as thick as a whale omelette. Look. France's elite battalion is 75% + Foreign. This is because the Frenchman is worthless as a soldier and France accepts they need others to fight for them.

Foreign Legion is Frances attempts to make an elite battalion by not using Frenchmen. You cant fault them. They Realised that the french cant fight for toffee and recruit other, better fighters , like the Brits Krauts and Yanks to fight for them. Theres only so much you can do with a Frenchman. Far better to recruit from any other country.

i had the mad idea of joining the legion once, i was talking to a friend of mine about it who was in 2 para and he told me that 2 of his friends deserted it was that bad, which kind of put me off, i think it takes a special kind of person to join, someone whos had abit of life experience and has total determination to see the 5 years through, i certainly wouldnt be able to make it, i think i could take being hit and punched for doing something wrong but the training and dicipline would kill me..

Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to get into the Legion? I believe 1 in 6 get eccepted. But Can someone give me an Idea of what pre training I would need to do before I go, in late Aug/Sept. Much appriecated. A Friend of mine, thats in the Irish guards told me that I would need to be able to jog for about an hour non stop + probably 20 pushups/situps on top of that. What else would I need to do? Thanks.

Extremely hard to get into. 60 push ups minimum, hundreds or sit ups, 10-20chin ups. Run at least 10kms with ease. Ull end up doing a 200km forced march at the end of training as well as two other long marches. You need to be fitter then Brit infantry recruits :)

It is 1 in 17. They can reject you just cause u dont look good practically. All im saying is dont look at like joining the Brit infantry. You do need those standards. Its an eilte unit. Get incredibly fit and ull beat everyone. Means less trouble from the instructors and the other assholes who join with you. Plus ull get first pick of the regiments (2nd REP :)).

it depends on what kind of jump it is. low altitude (200m) round shoots which open immediately after exit. for higher free fall jumps they use those RAM shoots...
