Helium is perfectly safe as long as you do it quickly and only once, and then ensure you get some oxygen back into your lungs. Provided there are no contaminants, it's not toxic but it WILL asphyxiate you from lack of oxygen if you overdo it like this girl did.

No one should do this without first understanding how to do it safely.
