  • That drop at 1:28 was awesome. how the fuck do they do that so good jesus it sounds like GAWD bhjdvcskje awes...awes...awesome sauce.

  • 2.47 more or less: is that only me, or the rhythmic part looks like a Gentle Giant's piece? O:

  • then cut your hair and become like maynard james keenan dork.

  • The singer said in a magazine that he doesn't listen to heavy nor death metal music. What an a.ss!

  • most of the 192 who liked are sheeps!

  • They completely lost it. Most bands do great music when they don't have a lot of money. It's like Maynard Keenan...he got rich, years got by, his music changed for the worst.

  • @jeromed2 This is not "most bands". This is Opeth. And they have always been doing what they love. They are not going to keep their style as it is just to fit your musical taste. Get it? It's their music, they do whatever the fuck they want with it. Now shut the fuck up, grow a pair and listen to their older stuff if you don't like this.

  • @RealityCommodity

One of my point was: they have to cut their hair now. I kinda liked damnation, but now, honestly, I'm open minded, but this is gay as f uck.

  • @jeromed2 Honestly, I could care less about which records you like and which you do not. Also, the fact that they released such a record clearly demonstrates how THEY could ALSO care less about whether you find their record gay or not.

  • @RealityCommodity

su ck my co ck, how about that you dork?

  • @jeromed2 Don't get angry little boy. I knew I'd win the argument before I even posted my first comment. No need to further prove how much of an ignorant asshole you are.

  • @RealityCommodity YOU ARE GAWD

  • I really like that vocal melody. 2:05

    :)

  • I feel lucky to love a band that is so diverse, giving a very progressive sound that matches to the likes of Porcupine Tree, but even has the older sounds that compare to the likes of Camel... Rock sounds that remind me of Deep Purple... And then change gear into metal riffs that are technically and musically sound, and not just 'brutal' alone...

But when all of these sounds are put together.. They don't sound like other bands anymore.. They sound like OPETH!!!

  • @Mitchellmiester Oh so you just named all the basic influences on Opeth and made it look like you know something about music, i applaud you.

  • @MrJoeysan I didn't make myself look like I know something about music on purpose? I'm only 18 years old and merely just said that i feel lucky to have come across Opeth through discovering Porcupine Tree, and having a father who influenced me through the likes of Camel and Premiata Forneria Marconi...

I was clearly complimenting Opeth by saying that despite these influences, they cannot be compared to another band as a whole...

Go pick on a Bieber fan or something. Not one of your own. Tit.

  • You can check my channel for this song with lyrics

  • People that really love progressive won't be disappointed by this album. All, music and vocals, are pretty amazing in my opinion.

  • its strange its makes me think of things like old houses and shit like that

  • @Stoneworks100 Same

  • The chill-out THEN freak-out song :) Alot of metalheads went "WTF" when this song was played live but some of us prog-lovers (who are also into metal) think it is pretty cool !

  • <3 this psychedelic album

  • Very very good song.

  • I'm really enjoying this 'new opeth'. Kick ass song.

  • so, it is progressive rock/metal, right? I like it btw

  • 3:30 one of the best solos on the album

  • @frostcleave Agreed

  • @frostcleave Not as good as Hope Leaves (Live in Royal albert hall.)

  • I was hoping for a cover of Sentenced :(

  • masterpiece!!!

  • As ridiculous as it is, this album made me a Opeth fan.

  • Wow boring.. what happened to opeth ?

  • @texasproof Maturity.

  • @Opethfullcovers So do you like this music more than their older stuff?

  • @MisterTownsend I like Opeth, quit saying old and new.

  • @Opethfullcovers

So making good music is immature now ?

  • @texasproof You asked it. If you do not like the answer we can't help. It is not what was said. If you don't believe the truth try to listen to Moby or Nick Cave or Therion from first to last. Age changes the people, it's called maturing and either we like it or not, it's what life is

  • @texasproof And I guess it would be boring/anti-music money greedy to make more than 20 years all the songs in a same style, even if it is good

  • @texasproof

Mikael once said in the Deliverance Making Of that he was not interested in doing the same stuff over and over. To me, this is a nice change. I like Heritage and I'm also a fan of the old Opeth stuff, this new album is an example of how versatile they're and how much they've grown up music wise.

  • @radioactivetoy89 yes indeed. this record is going to be a classic in coming generations. in the way that we look back on deep purple. which, if mike could read this. he'd be very proud. haha

  • @texasproof Are you retarded?

  • the record is ok, its not my favourite but i love this face of opeth

this track is amazing and mikael maybe cant growl like before but he sings beautiful

what i really hate is the cover of the album, opeth artwork is so amazing but this one is really weird

  • Geek2Geek(dot)Com is jokes, fucking nerds need to die.

  • One dislike? Nice try, Justin Bieber,

  • Is it just me, or does the 4:04 - 5:10 passage sounds very similar to a terran theme song in Starcraft 2 ????

  • Its funny how they went from really heavy black/death with Morningrise and Deliverance to waaaay different styles of music later on.

  • I believe that someone disliked the song, so he can comment on that person and get 1532 thumbs up from the best band in the world fans

  • This song is so amazing live. watch?v=jnUuiMj0NKg

  • What does he sing from 4:46 to 5:09?? LOVE that part!

  • My top Opeth albums are Morningrise and Damnation, so you can see I love the talented range of Opeth's style, but this album may be a little too weird for me. Although I do still respect their open mindedness and the fact that they do whatever the fuck they want.

  • how can you not like opeth!?

  • I like dancing to this fucking track. Great Drums!

  • do they relate to sentenced?

  • Hope would fail me in the falling snow and slake a wish inside.

Friends would leave me in my darkest hour, yet, trust me with their lives.

She would haunt my dreams and feed my demons.

    They,thell me to [go]...

    Opeth.

    Superior.

  • the 2:40 mark reminds me of primus :D

  • My fav on the new album!

  • It's hard to pick up a favorite track from this album... each track has its own magic touch. I totally love it :).

This is such a peaceful track... smooth and relaxing.

  • I like how Michael acquired his metal super group to do his jazz album, lol. Still really enjoyable. You can only subdivide 4/4 for so long, then you need a few new tricks. I really like Heritage, it has a 70's type production about it that's very pleasant. Oh yeah, and they still fucking rock out!

  • ill be honest here and say that this album really isnt my cup of tea. i wouldnt have minded if they made a few songs like these and put them in to a more "typical" opeth album. imagine a song like folklore in the midst of a heavier opeth album. it would be great and it would stand out really well. now i feel like its just drowning in big sea of "the same". i listen everything from jazz to techno but i was still expecting a bit more from opeth.

  • Has a Led Zeppelin type feel to it.. AWESOME

  • Comment removed

  • Saw them a few weeks ago. Mikael said "and now we're going to play a song whose title I cant even pronounce properly. Enjoy".

  • 00-2:24 is some good ol' Opeth melancholy. However, 3:50 on is one of my favorite parts of the whole album. It's sexy.

  • Best track on the album by far....

  • nepenthe is a mystical medicine for sorrow in greek mythology

  • fucking epic these guys can do no wrong

  • The middle bit reminds me of Primus.

  • Martin's making those drums cry, and Martin's bass is sympathizing. How anyone could have a problem with Opeth dedicating a whole album to their influences is beyond me. Especially when the result is like this song: the best goddamn porno music in existence.

  • the first 3 seconds is heavenly

  • opeth is getting some dark 70s psichedelia sounds...

  • Anyone who dismisses opeth because this album isnt heavy is an asshole, mikael has an amazing voice they need more albums like this

  • @NOBAMAftw Not just an asshole but a close minded little turd. An album does not need to be heavy or have death metal vocals to be good.

  • @NOBAMAftw You are right and wrong at the same time; Yes, any one who dismisses the album based on how heavy it isnt, has clearly NOT heard Damnation (Fantastic album in my opinion) which allows Mikeals voice to be truely appreciated.

BUT! Anyone who wants Opeth to continue down this path of music which is generic and hollow is a moron who should listen to Opeths previous albums and see just how dissapointing this album is in comparison

  • @HosTehNoob Sorry, first sentence is "Anyone who dismisses an album based on how heavy it is/isnt IS an asshole

  • @HosTehNoob There's nothing generic or hollow about this album. Disappointing? Maybe to you, but hey, that's life. People who think Opeth should go down whatever pre-defined path should just shut up about it and realize that Opeth will (and should) go down whatever path they want, and whatever it is it will most likely result in a masterpiece, as usual. If you don't like it, don't listen to it, but stop complaining. Go listen to what you do enjoy, and be grateful for it. Peace.

  • @NOBAMAftw I really like this album. It's like a cool glass of water, very refreshing.

  • @NOBAMAftw I agree with the first part, but disagree with the second.

Music shouldn't be all about vocals. And furthermore, Opeth are reknown for prog rock combined with black and/or death metal. That's why having another album with no extreme metal whatsoever is kind of a big thing to take in for fans.

  • @weaponized666 : You feel "Cheated" by an album, expecting heaviness from it, when Mikael spoke out regarding Heritage being a "soft" album almost a year in advance. On-top of that, being someone who's listened to Opeth for over half a decade, This is hands down the best work they've done thus far.

  • I feel cheated by this album. Opeth teased me with the heaviness in ghost of perdition/watershed. Now they release this.

  • @weaponized666 So you would prefer that they write constantly in the same style? There's a distinct energy to this band that I can't quite put my finger on. Whatever it is, it's one that demands exploration despite the music industry's need to sell mediocre, recycled crap to idiots with your attitude. If you can't handle creative development and variegation, then I have to wonder how the hell you got into Opeth in the first place. Shut up, listen to the music, and maybe you'll learn something.

  • @Vismata This whole post reeks of a fanboy. You 'can't quite put your finger on' what exactly you like about the band, so instead you resort to trying to portray me as someone of lesser intelligence. You seem to be the one with something to learn. Your opinion is of equal value to mine - I'm sure any intelligent person would agree.

  • @weaponized666 My opinion is of equal value to yours, eh? Well I guess that makes you a fanboy too. Here's the thing: music isn't about projecting some predefined image so that disillusioned hipsters can have something to relate to; in Opeth's case, it's about taking a complex musical idea and making it seem simple. We, on the other hand, are a couple of simpletons trying to seem complex, arguing on the Internet over a song that THEY have provided us. I for one enjoy the stylistic schizophrenia.

  • well put

  • @weaponized666 And as for what exactly I like about Opeth? The empty spaces and unsettling transitions, like the one in this song with Akerfeldt's guitar. It starts off whispering, and ends up screaming. Then again, I've heard that's what nepenthe itself is like: takes a person from whimpering in sorrow to dancing in manic joy. Sort of like the works of Beethoven, every Opeth song is - far from a worn-out proclamation - a harrowing and absolutely chilling invocation. :) Regards

  • @weaponized666 If you're just listening to them for their heavyness, why not listen to better Heavy songs? But if you appreciate them as a band, you'd reaslise that they've always done this, if they release a particularly brutal album, the next one is mellowed. This is like if BWP and Dam had a baby. In my ear.

  • @weaponized666 Idiot...

  • Really nice track! I love the drum parts... are so expressive!

  • Right up there with Folklore for me, excellent song

  • i think opeth with age is mellowing out and leaveing that cream metal behind with the ex members and kinda going 4 a beatles sound but all good still has its mad solo's and metal ofc but more relaxing insted off 7 mins off screaming more relaxing solo's and they feel like they are enjoig the new sounds my opinion

  • @pglloyd1 Mikael writes it all, it's just him writing what he wants to hear, he isn't aiming at anything, and as he said, who knows, the next album might be way heavier.

  • @pglloyd1(second reply) Opeth has ALWAYS had these elements, and even a full album, named Damnation.

  • Honestly, I really don't like jazz as a single form of music, something about it just doesn't connect... but mixed mith prog, or even metal, it works somehow. Can't explain it. It works here, 'nuff said.

  • amazing track, from an amazing band, i had drifted away form opeth the last cpuple of years, but this!! this is art, its beautifull, this album is a master piece and this song is the icing on the cake...i love u opeth

  • For a second I couldn't remember what genre I was listening to xD!

  • this song have an influence from gentle giant for sure, great song, the solo in 3 : 31 is amazing

  • very hendrixy

  • This is by far my favourite from Heritage. That melody is somewhat unusual but I love it so very much. Very emotive.

  • Sounds like 70ies' Chick Corea and other great Progressive Jazz musicians!

  • @chgoessler sounds like gentle giant - proclamation

  • @erikneoland yes indeed, especially the instrumental part starting at 2.34 !

  • Sooner or later Opeth will be a Jazzband! :-)))

  • What a fucking amazing track... seeing them tonight and can't wait. Flying up to Prog Metal heaven and back...

  • @RiotLignarius I think this track fucking sucks

  • @UnshackledMind86 and we give fuck why?

  • @UnshackledMind86 For an "unshackled mind", you sure are an idiot. faglol.

  • @BeefcakeMoney No, I un-like most of the fags commenting on this video have been listening to Opeth for over 10 years now and I don't like this new gay direction they've been going in since Ghost Reveries...this invites poseurs and faggots alike to say they listen to Opeth therefore they are metalheads

  • @UnshackledMind86 the new direction has been along time coming, get with it. If you want straight death metal listen to Death or Suffocation...

  • amazing track, one of the smoothest from opeth. up the funks
