  • so you got 4 effin' SSD's, and you wasted them on a MAC to only get 548 mb/s read and 273.2 write? Hahahahah, my single Crucial M4 SSD can do better.

  • /watch?v=-Ojm5eY-i_Q

  • amy winehouse...mac.. what the fuck dude!

  • WASTE to use SSD on a MAC! and wtf is up with Amy Crackhouse gay music?

  • mac. lol. mac.

  • OCZ has a single drive thats faster than this raid setup now.:)

  • i hit 600mb read with 4 intel x25v core i7 920 onborad ich10r controller.

  • Good vid horid music

  • Dude that's sick, what's it like playing games?

Oh wait you are using a mac...

  • ROFL that’s like putting formula one racing tires on a mini van WTF is the point

You will never realize that power on a MAC only High end pc gaming could use that effectively 2 drives in SSD raid would have been over kill

  • wow you have nowhere better to put your money.... putting ssd's of this caliber into a mac is like putting a 6 liter V8 on a lawnmower.

  • WOW>.. 4x SSD intel.. amazing huaehuaehuae got money :P

  • What strip size?

  • I get 243MB/s Write and 627MB/s Read with "only" 3 Intel SSD's in my Mac Pro. Overall 3 is faster than 4. I read some reviews, and you can see the same results online. Don't ask me why!

  • Intel's actual specs on the 160gb version are 270 read 100 write.

With 4 drives you should get about 1GB/s reads and 300-350MB/s writes. You've lost about half of your performance.

And even at 500, your OS should load a lot faster than it did in this video.

Those macs... they're just too expensive to raid properly :P

  • I do love the setup though... Fellow Intel Mac Pro SSD homie!

  • I have a 2010 Mac Pro, 4 core. I "only" have 2 x 160GB X-25M's. I have to disagree with khunbon. Yes you can insert the SSD into the slot, and it will dangle there. However, I completely disagree that it is secure. They could definitely come out if a dog ran into your tower or something. I bought two of the MaxUpgrades sleds. They are $50 each, but that is a drop in the bucket compared to the price of a new mac pro + SSD array. Just do it right.

  • @bneyens lol... $50 for a piece of metal or plastic to hold your drive?

  • @Aslapacrosstheface its a piece of solid aluminum milled down to exact specs. $50 is retarded, but IMO its the only way to do it right.

  • @bneyens You sound like the kind of person that doesn't care how much things cost

  • @Aslapacrosstheface when dealing with something as expensive as a Mac Pro, I think of it in relative costs. $150 for 3 SSD sleds is nothing compared to $1000 for 3 drives, or $2500 for the computer itself.

I originally used boxing tape, and a piece of wood as my mounting piece. It actually worked fine, but when you look at a professional machine it just seem right. Its like owning a Ferrari and putting on hub caps! It will work, but...

  • @bneyens BEHOLD!

    xpcgear.com/scythe-2-5-to-5-25-bay-rafter.html

  • @Aslapacrosstheface I beheld. That would not even fit into the mac case, let alone line up in the exact manner necessary. I can tell you haven't seen the insides of a Mac Pro. They have sleds that have to be exactly lined up. Intel SSD drives come with a FREE 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor, but the problem is that they dont line up exactly. And close doesn't count.

  • @bneyens What sort of drive bays do you have?

  • nice video. i like it!

  • What a waste of SSD's. Let me know when you can right click.

  • @HavoCnMe

    U mad?

  • @HavoCnMe You have been able to right click on a mac for at least a decade now. I let you know!

  • @HavoCnMe 15 idiots give this idiot's comment a thumbs up. You can, and always have been able to, right click on a Mac. (The biggest selling point of a Windoze machine is the ability to right click- Ha!)

  • Why is there gay music playing?

  • @aptsys Amy Winehouse is awesome, even if she is a drug attic. But that's beside the point, what I'm trying to say is, Fuck You!

  • @aptsys i cant bet that it is better music than what you listen to.

  • mind sending me one?! :D

  • lol... mac fail.

  • @Aslapacrosstheface right, i was like wtf is bs

  • wow, you saved so much cash by scoring an old television out of the dumpster, that you could buy 4 ssds :-) :-) nice setup man, just joking. but seriously... you need a 30" cinema badly :-) (I'm waiting for them to update the old beast... hurry up apple, I need 30" action asap)

  • FUCKING GAY MAC

  • ok i now what raid 0 means i think

4 fisical drives but to the os is only 1 rigth? but

what is raid 1 raid x etc

    sorry for my bad english

  • Use W7 mac os sucks!

  • @Keroque haha, what do you know about Operating systems?

  • @myx0x3 Much, fag..

  • if i had that much money...

  • This just proves mac users are retarded. Amy Winehouse for a hardware review.

  • Hi, awesome setup! Just wondering what adaptors you used to get the 2.5' drives working with drive sleds in the Mac Pro.

  • @natony

Hi, SSD is so light that you can just plug it into SATA sockets inside Macpro i do not use any adapter, just plug it inside and it is quite secured.

Actually intel provides the converter from 2.5 -> 3.5 but it does not work for Macpro.

    Hope this helps!

  • i also made a video where i show my pc booting with a intel ssd x25-m raid 0 ( 2 elements) but i notice that the boot time is not so brilliant...

your boot time ( don't take it personally )is not so brilliant too

but on copy file, open programs and load games ssd rulez!!

  • I am doing this with 3 SSDs, And I don't know what RAID size I should use. 128K or 256K. Which would you recommend?

  • Apple gay, get a life.

  • u need better raid card u could have 1000mb read speed :)

  • in terms of boot speed i meant.

  • to be honest, my windows 7 with 1 SSD is about the same as your 4 SSDs in raid 0.

  • Well the reason the Intels are normally recommended for OSX is because they manage to get around the lack of Trim support due to some tech they put into their controllers to write the date in a certain way. They do not suffer from the same write amplification issues that the other drives do. That is why they make sense for OSX.

  • What block size did you use?

  • The writing speed of Intel SSD's are a bit crappy. There much more SSD which are faster than Intel SSD's and cheaper... Btw nice video dude!

  • Check the release date of video, please!!

  • What do you work with to afford this kind of stuff?

  • I've thought about doing a raid setup until I heard that garbage collection (TRIM) doesn't work on a raided setup. Was this a concern you had khunbon?

  • Yes please answer regarding this.. I am also concerned about this issue. Can you let me know how much it costs also to get a raid card for these ssds?

  • It all depends on how nice of a raid controller you want. I've seen ok raid controllers at $300 and awesome raids controllers $800+

I'm not sure what he's using in this video.

  • Well I dont want to pay 800 for a raid card.. so can you name me the best one around 300 dollars? And whats the difference between a "ok" one and a "awesome" one.. they still do the sam job right?

  • Hi, trim doesn't support in OSX so from time to time you need to run the maintenance program to bring up the performance.

I only use the software raid from apple since the most important factor to me is write speed so maximum write speed for my set up is 400 MB/s for both software and hardware raid. Of course hardware raid will give you better read performance out of intel SSD.

  • @khunbon whats that program?

  • I just wanted to add that someone corrected me and told me that garbage collection and TRIM are different. Garbage collection is possible on RAID drives but requires you to run the program. TRIM however is not and I think that TRIM runs at the hardware/firmware level for cleaning the drives.

  • I need SSD with capacity more than 500 GB so it is no waste. There is no single SSD drive that has capacity more than 256 GB so if you combine 4 units of intel G2 SSD is still cheaper than many other SSD choices. I also upgraded my G2 to a new firmware and now SSD's write speed is 400 MB/s. you can not get this write speed from any single SSD.

  • @khunbon yes there is even 1t of ssd. but 500gb u find out there more providers. just do a google. u will be impressed

  • How long have you had this setup for? I just bought an intel x25e and i think your setup is better.. but i hear there's a TRIM support problem for raided intel x25 m cards? Also what is the raid controller card u bought?

  • may u need less then 500 GB + a drobo S will be great.

  • @khunbon There have been terabyte ssd drives since years. Shows how much you know.

  • @khunbon the larger the SSD the less reliable and more likely they are to fail. Its inherit with the technology and has no foreseeable work around.. If you want the speed of SSD with the side of HDD your gonna have to wait till the next format of saving is invented cause SSD is not for you.

  • @khunbon The new VERTEX 3 will do the job for you,its reads more than 500MSec.Succes with it.

  • fair waste, they are just about as good with just 1.

Also what a waste on a mac, is like putting a ferrari engine in a ford festiva.

  • ??!? --> As long as all 4 are fine and at 100% performance? I don't know where the myth was born that SSDs don't profit from "raiding".

  • why Mac really is the best system and home user

  • i think your pc wil boot up on 10 seconds.

  • check 4 months after u full up the hard drive it will be very slow.

  • NIce. I think you would see an increase with a raid controller. But it probably wouldn't be noticeable. Try doing some windows 7 boots and tests on the same system.

  • Lol Aple...

  • AWESOME !!! how much did you spend ? about?4 grand? Only for that fast boot ?

  • Please comment.

  • shit , why would u need 4 of em
