Just to be clear. I'm not necessarily opposed to the testing. Great test objectives, awesome capability. Just tell me what I'm supposed to "believe." The video is obviously targeted at something, so when ATK was presented with the idea for this video, why was this the theme? After the test is complete, what will I now believe in?
Resurrected from the ashes? The Ares I first stage at the very least has been considered a treasure trove of knowledge for NASA in developing new launch capability, and the Senate’s NASA authorization act for 2011 preserves the solid rocket motors moving forward. Obama’s plan to cancel Constellation was a *proposal* that has garnered bi-partisan opposition, which has already led to back peddling on the part of the administration.
The Senate Bill is definitely pushing for SRB's. No doubt there. From where we stand now, SRB's are the best we can do with limited funding. No way we can afford more efficient, less costly, easier to handle LRB's right now. So I'm good with SRB's.
Are 5-seg SRB's required right now? Lot's of debate on that, but I can accept them (if for no other reason than to make an HLV politically acceptable).
However, nowhere in the Senate bill is the Ares-1 endorsed. That's all I was saying
@kenny00869 Well, you probably know there are many reasons for having a test. It wouldn't be to prove ATK can "make" a motor. There are many design objectives and instrumentation channels. The propellant has been cooled to nearly freezing - data will be evaluated to determine performance at the lower limits. Results of this test will help with solid rocket motor development regardless of the purpose. Watch and see. It will be cool in more ways than one!
Good work ATK 12 more test to go to prove Obama Wrong

This comment has received too many negative votes show
What exactly will we "all believe?"
- That ATK can make a 5-segment solid booster? I don't think anyone doubts that. They are a very talented group of engineers.
- That we need a 5-segment booster for SLS? The DM-2 test isn't going to change anyone's opinions on that. I'm not going to get into that debate.
- That Ares I will resurrect from the ashes? Hmmm...
Don't get me wrong; I love a big rocket test, and I wish ATK all the best. But the point of the video escapes me.

I was waiting for the rocket test to begin while the engineer was standing in front of his. Probably would have affected the rating, though.

No he is one of ATK's engineers, not an actor. He represents all of us that have worked on this program.

I'm really excited! With another successful test, the Ares rockets will have a lot going for them.
It'll look cool, too.
