Not a lot of people know this, but Germany isn't the only place with no speed limit roads. Montana in the USA has no speed limit on its freeways and once you are outside of Douglas and the small towns on the Isle of Man, there is also no speed limit. No speed limit on 30 foot wide country roads (not freeways). Ob the Isle of man you will see a round white sign with a black diagonal line through it. That means no speed limit in the I.O.M

german driver license is so hard to get, u have to overcome countless theorethical and practically tests. At the end get proofed by an Inspector, and for one tiny mistake (depending on the inspector) u screw up. Overall u pay roundabout 2.000€ for your licence (up to 10.000€!!!)

For all those making wrong judgements, avg speed on overtaking lane is about 160-180 Km/hr (110-115 MPH) while the M6 was crusing at 311Km/hr (194 MPH)

@Maserati7200 not disarguing with that. just saying: IF unlimited speed would be allowed in america, there would be many accidents. not because of "maybe" u who can drive, but there are enough people who try to go higspeed and cant handle it. i drove an american car (chrysler stratos) (maybe its not the best example) but it drives like shit on the autobahn comparing to european cars. (just speaking about handling) . if u drive for example 1 hour it gets really hard to drive straight. ^^

@CrankFrank00 Shitty cars in general won't do well at high speed. Not all Americans have American cars, in fact both my cars are Japanese. I agree that most American cars were absolute crap from the late 80's to the mid 2000's. That Chrysler Stratus you drove (it's a dodge status, here) is indeed a piece of shit. But lately GM and Ford have been churning out some high quality vehicles. Chrysler not really, but they're better than they used to be.

BUT it wont happen. because of the safety-facts. here in germany there is only 50 percent unlimited and its getting less... but we have porsche, mercedes, bmw, audi and vw. and because the auto-industrie has too much power in governement the autobahn wont get full limited. ^^ thx god für the powerfull industrie xD. -> unlimited is and will be sth. unique

thats possible in germany because germans are the best educated driver in the world.
german driver license is so hard to get, u have to overcome countless theorethical and practically tests. At the end get proofed by an Inspector, and for one tiny mistake (depending on the inspector) u screw up. Overall u pay roundabout 2.000€ for your licence (up to 10.000€!!!)
So... not every bum in germany is allowed drive on the autobahn ;)

The reason 10 People die per mile of highway in the USA (46,526 Deaths/year2008) And ONLY 1 death per mile in Germany! (less than 8K/year) IS BECAUSE OF NO SPEED LIMITS!
People don't assume others will be driving a certian speed because there is NO Limit so they drive alot more cautiously= Less accedental deaths!
US Highways need to follow Autobahn Laws to lower the Death Rate!

2) Reducing travel costs also benefits the consumer as the overall project costs are lower due to the shorter travel times.
3) As for developing Superhighways in America, the automotive manufacturing sector could itself be revolutionized, producing many new jobs for years to come. New design, engineering and manufacturing process could be devoloped as a result.

I life in germany near cologne and you must be carflully in germany now because on some places they take speedlimits for 100-200 meters and between them is now very often radar control ! Thats sucks but sometimes not legal in germany! Very often on A555 and A553
In my area is the best highway A1, A3, A57, A52 and A61 there can you blow up :D ! but the patrol in germany is very expensive on time ist the price by 1,35-1,43 € the LITER!
