  • my teacher from the US told me about this tv show.thank you for uploading this lol

  • X people wouldn't know an entertaining song on Roman Numerals, even if it hit them right between their II eyes.

  • Woke up this morning with this song in my head, hadn't heard it in in 20 years maybe? And now that I'm almost 30, I only wish I could see all the outtakes of them messing up and swearing profusely (and of all the other sqaure 1 sketches). I was much more clever when I was 10.

  • 5:12 makes me fall over. I always forget that he does that.

  • I I heart this

  • This is actually a catchy tune.

  • "Tony, time is drachma." XD

  • The stats were burrrrnnnniiinnnggg I-I bright!!!!!!

  • They need to rerun these

  • Does anyone know which song had the line "somebody bring me a mirror?" It's been driving me crazy cuz I can't find it!

  • @LiciR Fraction Rap

Hey Lar, hey dude, you got to hang tough

‘Cause this a-fractions stuff can get really rough

But like I told you, dude, I’m gonna help you out

You got no good reason to sweat and pout

‘Cause I’m the King of Cool and I’m a whiz at school and I look good!

    Hunh?

Somebody bring me a mirror. Yeah.

    Now wait.

  • great song i watched this when i get home from school in chicago

  • Dude, we need more educational shows that were this entertaining.

  • Gimme an "eye" and an "eye-eye" and an "eye-eye-eye" ...!

  • I wonder if Larry Cedar is actually singing that. It sound like he is.

  • What?! How did he know M was 1000? He never learned that...I think he was messing with the other guy the whole time!

  • Ahhh haha the black dude singing bass is Mayor Carcetti's advisor on The Wire

  • @MrKaneShadow That's Reg E Cathy

  • I always loved this show when I was little. Usually you can criticize things you loved as a kid. But I haven't seen it in 20 years or more, I never knew that it was actually this good.

  • I mean, that's just a great song.

  • for a kids show that was a pretty good "numeral"

  • We need shows like this these days...

  • @HingDaiMike I agree

  • came home from school watched this show raised my grade

  • Thank you very much for uploading this video. It brings back so many fond memories. Those were good times... :)

  • "ready backers? ready uppers?"

    AHAHAHA!!!!

  • i grew up watching this show should be on dvd

  • So far this video has had XCCXXIX (91,329) views. CCLIX liked it, but X disliked it.

  • It's not a number it's a NUMERAL! Never gets old.

  • "We'll all be back in Phoenicia singing to the sheep." I always thought it was "singing to the shapes." As in, Tony's saying I-I-I for three, so Cassius would try to sing the shape of the numeral 2 or 3. Which would be impossible if you'd never seen those symbols before!

  • III words...LOL!!!

I had shuch a crush on the singer when I was younger! Those tight black jeans! Ahhh!!! Loved it! Still kinda cute today!

  • III words...LOL!!!

  • I ship them.

  • even i was a kid, i never understood how he knew that M = 1000

also, i never noticed that the studio guy is REALLY flambouyant... like... REALLY

  • OMG I remember watching this when it was new

  • The funny thing is that when he sings "III words," he sings it as a triplet, which is lost when sung as "3 words."

  • I night the stars were glowing II hearts were overflowing III words hit like a bolt from above (bum, bum, bum) IV arms were hugging tightly V times I kissed you lightly So goes the mathematics of love I, II, III IV-ever I'll keep on counting the ways M nights I'll hold you And love you all of my days I night the moon was shining II hearts were intertwining So goes the mathematics of love VII, VIII, IX, X-derly I'll hold the memory of The I night II hearts pondered The mathematics of love
  • The ending part would've sound awesome if Reggie said, "O Solo Mio". in his singing voice. Two thumbs up!

  • I used to love this show when I was young. I wish I could find more of this

  • hey, they didn't teach him "M" yet, how'd he know that was 1,000?

  • LOL IV heart. Need a blood transfusion?

  • Yous Romans is the bestest

  • there's so much talent that went into this show, even in their cheesy fake lesson songs

  • All right. Take V.

  • I loved this show! Loved this song so much!

  • LOL. i.v. arms.

  • Indeed Larry Cedar is made of awesomesauce!

  • omg, i remember this song as a kid. thanks for posting!

  • With a little retooling this song might actually get over for some pop singer.

  • Wouldn't It Be Awesome If The Cast Of Square One TV (that is if any of them is still alive) would be the guest hosts of "WWE RAW"?.

  • @DimeraFan28 I would LOVE to see that!

  • I've always loved that scene around 5:19! He doesn't know 1-10 in Roman Numerals, but suddenly knows that "M" is 1,000!

  • Tony, baby... you're retarded :{

  • time is drachma.....LOL

  • haven't seen this in years!! as soon as it started, i remembered the whole song! loved it as a kid!!

  • It's not a number! It's a numeral!

  • wow i was starting to get EXTREMELY impatient to hear the song... all those interruptions

  • This was my favorite song from the show back then!

  • I, I, I love this clip.

  • I love it even his backup singers can't get the words right. (If you listen bery carefuly to take 2, one of the singers sings "one heart" instead of "one night"

  • a black dude in Rome? WIN

  • i always find it hilarious how he stumbles on every roman numeral yet nails 1K w/o having to do another take

  • It was more than 20 years ago when I watched this program and I still remember the tunes and the reff, even I only heard this song once!

  • "Allright,Take V" lol!

  • WOW!! This skit has been ingrained in my memory since the first time I saw it! I am so pleased to see that there have been comments posted as recently as yesterday!! What an iconic educational skit!

  • I LOOOOOOOOVE this show! Can they PLEASE make dvds!? Kids these days are missing out!

  • Why don't they make awesome shows like this anymore?

  • Just had this song stuck in my head this morning, thanks for taking me back to my childhood

  • I remember sitting in 1st grade watching this! Thanks for he memories.

  • oh my god!!!!! I REMEMBER this!!! This song has been in my head for YEARS and i thought i'd take a chance and look it up online. This makes me so nostalgic. Sigh!!!

  • This was back when shows for kids were actually entertaining as well as educational.

  • This clip used to drive me crazy as a kid because when he writes "VIII" you can see that the column he is writing on isn't actually a square column, but a flat wall made to look like a column. It is STILL messing with my head.

  • Yes, that drove me crazy when I was a kid as well and still does! I guess it makes sense that people who are into the orderliness of math would be driven crazy by such a thing.

  • You can actually see it on the III part sorta, but it's been plagueing me ever since too.

  • @razordu30 that's actually appropriate. trompe l'oiel often used roman architecture.

  • @razordu30 Dude, not only did I NOT notice this in the 80's, but I didn't even catch this time around, and I'm twenty-freakin'-eight!.....Or XXVIII, I guess!....THANKS SQUARE ONE! lol

  • its totalus bizzarus!

  • This is hilarious!! I don't ever remember watching this growing up... But this is hilarious! LOL!

  • this was one of my all time favorite segments

  • I thought that this skit was really funny. And, It teaches a good lesson about roman numerals.

  • god i miss shows like this on PBS.

  • so it means M is 1000 cool gotta do this for my maths test i can just sing it;)

  • "M Nights I'll hold you..."

    Cassius:"TONY!"

  • and the "ix, that's what this song gives me, the ix" line always cracked me up as well :)

  • Hmm...technically, 1000 nights would be somewhere between 2 and 3 years...so within 3 years he won't be holding her anymore? :-P (yeah I'm a geek, and that was kind of a joke anyway)

  • Also it's curious how tony knows that "M" is 1000, and doesn't know that I is 1 :P lol

  • Love the song but the mistakes are...questionable.

  • 3:59 lol

  • the black dude is in "Airheads"!

  • and the mask, and the wire...He is in a lot of stuff

  • He was in Seven too.

  • What always bothered me about this, as a kid, and I know this is a nitpick, but when he writes the numbers on the column (3:18), the edge of the number goes off the the 'other side' of the column, showing that it is a flat two-dimensional piece of cardboard which is shaded to look like a three-dimensional column.

    But still, great song.

  • omg....how did i never catch that. dude, the fact that you caught that rules! XD

yes, the song is totally awesome, i even paused the video to check if the chords on the sheet music are right, and they are :P (actually you need to transpose to start on C major but the progression is still right)

  • now THAT makes for good nostalgia! That show should still be on, re-runs or new!

  • It was on Noggin for a while a few years ago, I think.

  • "IX....thats what this song gives me- the Icks" lol classic

  • OOOH my sister and i used to sing this but i could never get the lyrics right! i miss square one tv and mathnet :(

  • hi mrs. nagy's class

    this is zeus

  • One thing I found a bit..."Off" now is that the singer can't figure out that I is 1 and II is 2 BUT he knew that "M" was 1000!

    Odd? Just a bit!

    Still a good bit though

  • OMG Plot holes! D:

  • I totally thought I had made this up as a kid. I'm so glad it's real!

  • Y'know, I was just listening to "The Ten Commandments Of Love" the other day and I thought "wasn't there a Square One song based on this?"

I actually kinda like this better. The original is a little heavy-handed for a love song.

  • They don't make educational shows like this anymore. I am so glad I have a child so I can show her what daddy watched when he was younger. lol god i'm old

  • this was a staple show of my childhood

  • 1,2,3,4ever! the mathematics of luv! oh, how i loved this show! 7,8,9, tenderly! *classic*please show this to your KIDS!

  • This was the staple of the show

  • lord jesus... i remember this shit

  • God I miss when children's programming was this good.

    Thanks for uploading.

  • I like the way Tony starts off the song: A 5, 6, 7, 8! Or in this case A V, VI, VII, VIII!

  • Comment removed

  • Oh man, I remember this from 1993, I was in 2nd grade and I knew a few Roman numerials thanks to this kinds of show!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I hadn't seen this since 1987, and it was one of my favorites!

  • I wish there were more shows like this. I have in 20 years not forgotten anything i have learned from this show

  • Biggest monstrous.™

  • OMG I love square one. I remember this like it was yesterday!

  • this song popped into my head this afternoon... I'm so glad you posted it here ^_^

  • It's meant to be a fun and educational way to teach Roman numerals. Don't diss!

  • Good point. But this is a children's show and this sketch is intended to introduce roman numerals to American children using Phoenecian numbers.

  • i remember this from when i was really little.. this is actually where i learned roman numerals for the first time

  • Ha! At 3:19 you can see the pillar is actually flat, and not actually a real column.

Also, this song has been stuck in my head for 20 years. thanks for uploading.

  • YOU TOO?

I don't think this song has ever left my head. It just steps back for a year or so and lets a lot of other songs have the mental spotlight for a while.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha..i loved this skit like madddddddd...hahahahah

  • The song (for a kids show) was pretty good.

  • Har har har.

  • You idiot! he's making the shape of a V, which is 5 in Roman Numerals!!

  • LOL RETARD ITS A "V"

  • ROFL!

(that's seriously the funniest thing I read all week)

  • lol, he made a V with his fingers. its a roman numeral. maybe you should have paid more attention to this show when it was on.....lol

  • dude stop being jealous i mean your just bored of your own life so ya your jealous ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hahahahahahaha ha ha ha peace to you to jealous mann! :(~

  • I Night...

  • And... I never noticed it but... the guy was a total hottie!

  • I preferred the I I I lyrics, they were catchier, haha. Where can I download this song?

  • got realplayer? you can downloaded it there and it goes on to your video downloader!

  • You know what was really great about everything CTW did back then? The little touches that almost no one would ever get but they went in anyway.

0:35 "Tony, let's just try it... Time is drachmas!"

  • this is my ultimate fav video of the whole series... its soo fun to sing :P
