I'm not familiar with the original form of this work that Corelli composed. If you could be so kind as to tell me which version on YouTube is the correct one, I'd be pleased to hear it, because I've always been curious.

As to Shumsky sawing on the violin, I'm not sure what you're talking about. His articulation is great and could hardly be called sawing.

dziady1 is referring to the interpretation of this piece. most people favor the interpretation that is more in style with how it was played at the time, or how the composer meant it to be played. However interpretations are as varied as the artist, and over time the borders have been washed away. I agree with dziady1 in that i think this artist ruined the song. he plays it in His style. not in the style of the composer's day. For a better, in my opinion, version try MILSTEIN's

Sawing away? Are we listening to the same violinist? Shumsky may not have had the high-profile career, but his interpretations certainly have a uniquely musical nature. His sound can certainly be a little sharp in this recording, but it doesn't seem to detract from the music any, it still possesses a melancholy beauty...
