  • Of course most of us know Dan Spivey as part of the Skyscrapers with Sid Vicious then Mark Callous aka The Undertaker but not many people remember him as Barry Windham's replacement in the US Express with Mike Rotunda. which was a young but very popular team in the WWF at one time.

  • @chorse70 I remember...I especially remember being disappointed b/c Windham was better looking...LOL..and I missed the episode where they explained why the switch.

  • Is there any other Promos by this GENIUS of a character?

  • dangerous dan spivey, lol.

  • i remember this, i was 14 and i didn't get the max cady joke, as i only saw cape fear for the first time a year LATER, lol.

  • see this is what I initially saw in Wade Barrett until I saw his finisher and everything else that followed. I saw him as a suave debonair type character one minute he's all class then next he goes jack the ripper on your ass, but no Nexxus happened kept a little hope for that then bam nothing so yea. That Wasteland move of his just kills me when I watch it's like a set-up move for something bigger that never happens.

  • the truth is ive read dan spivey say nash's powerbomb had very little to do with it, he said his body was so fucked by that stage anyway he couldnt really carry on

  • Kevin Nash, Waylon Mercy is comin' for you nigga! Ya know what I mean???

  • Waylon Mercy has Cena's life in his hands....You know what I mean?

  • Fuckin' Kevin Nash... I didn't understand this gimmick back then but looking back, it was pretty awesome. I didn't know it was based on Max Cady from Cape Fear... I instead drew parallels to Reverend Jim Jones from the Peoples Temple Mass Suicide.

  • When I think of the Waylon Mercy gimmick I think of what could have been.

    Ahh classic WWF stuff. ..

The debut of Savio Vega! LOL!

  • i trash owen for screwing up austin and dan severyn. but i'm in the minority---i don't think eating turnbuckle should get you off the hook for effectively killing stone cold.

  • What's with the heat with Diesel ending his career? Accidents happen in wrestling, it's not always fake. Owen Hart broke Austin's neck and nobody trashes Owen. D'Lo Brown ended Droz's career and nobody trashes him. Brock Lesnar broke Holly's neck too. It's not like they did it on purpose.

  • @juanbotello1 To be fair it wasn't D-Lo's fault. The mat was wet and he slipped

  • @partypack29 That's what I'm saying: it's not like if they did it on purpose. Accidents happen, especially in sports.

  • @juanbotello1 Don't know where that rumor was started but the reason he didn't last that long was his knee's were shot. Anyone that knew Dan Spivey knew his knees were jello... Nash never hurt him. I don't think they even wrestled.

  • @maddogwrestlingfan They did. Mercy & Nash had a match which went to a DQ to protect Mercy's credibility for a future title shot. Come to think of it, I think Mercy may have won via countout. Anyway, Nash after the match gave him a rather unprotected powerbomb and he never wrestled after it.

  • @NeptuneNetwork Oh ok thanks for the info. I didn't know that...

  • @juanbotello1 Actually Lesnar later admitted in a shoot he did do it on purpose to let the 'court' know that he wouldn't be pushed around.

And as a result, Holly lost a year of his life, and his wife divorced him, so yeah, I do blame Lesnar for that. I get your point though.

  • @NeptuneNetwork Holly sand bagged that powerbomb that is why his neck was broken.

  • @juanbotello1 yeah fair point, in fairness though i don't think anyone gives a shit about bob holly, he's a notorious bell end, and that was also his own fault for being a stubborn old bastard

  • @juanbotello1

No one trashes him anymore because of the tragedy. Austin certainly wasn't happy with him.

Owen's become way overrated after his death. He had a great period when he turned heel and was feuding with Bret. He showed that he had a lot of potential on commentary one time, being as funny as Heenan or Ventura even, and that's high praise because those are my two favorite color commentators. But when Owen became a background without push, he wasn't that over. A great worker though

  • @jackiedegracia: Those shitheads in DX calling Owen a "nugget" didn't help anything.

  • I think it's because Nash is a known backstage politician so everything he does is suspect to people in the business. Whether he booking shows or ending careers, people always question his true intentions in hindsight. I like Nash, too, but I think that's what it's all about. He fucked a lot of people over supposedly. I mean, no one here really knows what happened, that's just my theory.

  • What a great character

  • Mercy was the most peaceful and merciful man in wrestling history. A moment of peace, please...

  • too bad it was over before it could start :(

  • Most underated gimmick EVER

  • i loved waylon mercy. he's just a peaceful man. do you know what i mean?

  • The template for No Country for Old Men, and for Jericho.

  • Nash didn't end his career!!! go to wwe dot com, go to where are they now and loom for dan spivey, he says and i quote “I couldn’t do it anymore,” Spivey admitted. “My football days and my wrestling days added up and I wore out.”

  • @wrestlingluva Nash messed Spivey's back up with a Jacknife, forcing him to retire soon after that

  • @Swype87 nah, he says it wasnt an injury sustained from wrestling.

  • I asked for his autograph and he was so polite.

  • Best gimmick in an era that had a clown and a garbage man. We never got to see a Skyscrapers match between him and Undertaker. :(

  • Too bad he had to cut it short. This character had great potential.

  • Too bad Dan Spivey retired before this character could take off. It had so much potential.

  • Way ahead of his time!

  • Wasn't he the bad guy on Walker Texas Ranger at one time??

  • You knew this guy was a heel right away. Sometimes in these pre debut vignettes, it was hard to get a handle on whether they were going to be a heel or face, but with Mercy, you knew seconds in he had heel written all over him. They should bring this gimmick back and put it on someone new

  • OH SHIT............I remember WALYON MERCY!! Great heel persona, should've kept him around longer.

  • Kevin Nash broke his back, and ended his career...

  • Would have like to see him team up with Jake "The Snake" Roberts.

  • @jackball2 Yes they should have.

  • this guy took wrestling to a whole other world. a world not seen very often in wrestling, an often imitated but never duplicated place

  • you know what I mean?

  • Danny Spivey is a legend, one of the greatest and most under rated big men in wrestling history. I heard he was offered the part of Kane before Glen Jacobs. He would have made a great Kane, especially with his history with Undertaker. Waylon Mercy was a fantastic gimmick that would have smacked it as a main event heel.

  • What an awesome underrated gimmick. A nice charming easy going guy one minute..and the next a crazy psychopath. I believe the gimmick was based off Robert De Niro's Character in Cape Fear. It sucks that Diesel pretty much ended his career prematurely, who knows how far he would've gone.

  • Vince claimed he based Mercy on a man-child in his school when he was young, he'd been held back in grades for years and spoke like Mercy, slow and stirring.

  • @EricV1

The Waylon Mercy character was based off of DeNiro's Cape Fear character & yes Nash ended his career

  • He almost looks like Austin...

  • peacful1.........YA>. !!!!!!>>>>>>>>>>

  • see this bug on my hand thats not very peaceful!

  • It's a DAMN shame Waylon Mercy never stuck around. He was awesome!

  • Kevin Nash messed up his back with a powerbomb and he had to retire. I met him in Tampa around 1996. Very nice guy.

  • lol i got him on my WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 game on Xbox 360

  • It´s gonna be peaceful!!

  • Not to be against spivey, but he could of stayed in the WWF/E in a non wrestler role, like a road agent or something

  • he was the shit fucc'n bret hart buried him yell

  • poor danny spivey. diesel had to ruin his career

  • waylon was danny spivey? what year was this? and how did diesel ruin his career

  • yeah, he was danny spivey. this is 1995. diesel botched a powerbomb during a match between them on a house show and spivey had to retire.

  • it Was 1995,During A SuperStars Match, Diesel Powerbombed Mercy And It Some How Messed His Back Up.

  • aww this is old school. "lives are gonna fade in Wayon Mercy's hands ha ha ha you know what I mean"

  • Thanks for this vid. Nice five stars.

  • An interesting character in retrospect, it's a shame that he was injured and retired. I would like to see where this would've gone for him.

  • Yeah, this character was really ahead of its time.

  • this guy sounds like billy ray cyrus

  • haha i remember watching that when it first came out. very cool
