I get a kick out of Rickson Gracie when he does uddiyana bhanda, agnisara dhauti, and nauli. Not to mention that Rickson Gracie is quite flexible. Love it when he does Ginastica Natural also.
anyone who counts training matches on their record is a tool, including rickson who is an incredible grappler. His opposition in mma was a disgrace so hed be better off not mentioning that.He actually would have had relatively few competitive grappling matches either since they were infrequent in the late 70s and 80s when he bothered entering.
the majority of martial arts coaches know very little about how to condition, they just copy their instructor without understanding, rickson is no different. Its changing a bit nowadays but this was in the early 90s.
What I've noticed about Rickson and other old-school guys is that they don't necessarily train to be short-term top-level athletes. They train to have functionality throughout their life whether they are in their 30's or in their 60's.
@billysue2 Yeah you obviously dont know much. He was actually very innovative in his drills, conditioning. he did alot of plyometrics, strength, flexibility, endurance training.. ppl today dont even do as much as he did. he is great and legend for a reason.
@BlackLotus07 ive a degree in exercise physiology so I know a bit, also ive grappled for 15 years.Hes clueless about conditioning as are 99% of fighters.Rickson at this time wouldnt even know what a pylometric was let alone do them. The vast majority of his training was stretching and muscular endurance, which suited his style quite well,it wouldnt be enough in current mma.His training regime was childs play compared to modern fighters who commonly do far too much conditioning and overtrain.
@socalled47 he wasnt particularly fit nor even trained hard,in his matches the opponents were that useless he didnt need to be fit and strategy was very efficient v that level of fighter. As a grappler he was fit for that activity specifically.
@billysue2 His philosophies and way of thinking concerning preparing for matches are beyond you and me. Sports science degrees don't teach why his methods are the best. If he was fit for grappling, then he was fit for all types of fighting as he done wrestling also therefore stand-up training would not have been too difficult as you don't have someones weight on you.
@socalled47 i can assure you theres nothing special about his methods or strategies.Thats exactly what sportys science teaches.Standup wrestling, ground and striking demand different types of fitness. His wrestling is terrible by the way and so is the standard in all of south america.
@Kingmaconha certainly more than rickson gracie about strength and conditioning.Obviously hes forgotten more than i'll ever know about grappling but thats not whats being dicussed here.
@Kingmaconha lad, there is nothing about rickson gracie that could not be accomplished by a good athlete who spent his entire life on the mat,do you honestly think that theres anything complex about grappling, its relatively simple, the rest is just is smart practise and lots of good training partners. Its bullshit to think that pedro sauer for instance doesnt know everything rickson knows
@billysue2 hes the best grappler to ever live, hes never lost at anything hes ever done, that sounds pretty average... he doesnt have as many titles as roger because he didnt enter as many competitions, he stopped competing when his son died and even Helio said quote "Rickson is the true champion of my family." i mean if that doesn't tell it all then i don't know what does. best technique out of anyone ever period
@SouthTexasHeadbanger He's admitted he only says that to keep Rickson humble, apparently you missed the interviews where Helio says that there is no fighter to match a man of Ricksons ability .
@aknowneemus "He's admitted he only says that to keep Rickson humble, " <---Riiiight he said that ONLY to keep his son humble. He didn't actually think there was any truth to it. Well if he meant to keep Rickson humble then he fell short.....BIG TIME. Rickson for years has made absurd claims that he could enter mma at anytime he wanted and easily defeat Brock Lesnar, Fedor, Shane Carwin and virtually anyone competing in MMA today. Rickson is more unhumble than Chael Sonnen.
@GanzLONDON Then prehaps you should tell RICKSON GRACIE that he's "just PLAIN WRONG." Since he's the one he keeps trying to put himself in the same sentence as "ZUFFA CLOWNS."

@billysue2 But yet he had cardio for days? It's his philosophies and how he applied them is what made him so fit and healthy.
