Nowhere in literal Babylon did they use the Greek language to arrive at 666. If they had done so, we would do the same. But they counted their gods instead, so we count the gods as well. If the church-state combination were not called Babylon, then it would not need to be done this way and the Bible would probably give some other instruction on how to arrive at some number, which would likely be different than 666. But it is 666, so we count the gods. Show me that it must be different.
Rules are great for finding things, but in the case of the beast of Revelation 17, I need to have a verse that shows us that we are to use Greek to find this number. What we do have is that the beast is made up of 2 components, church and state. The church is Babylon. In literal Babylon, they had the number 666 also. They counted their gods to derive 666. Someone in the comments said that no Catholic believes that the popes are God. That probably is true. But the popes have claimed to be God. Pope Pius V said "The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth." Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Chapter XXVII, p. 218, "Cities Petrus Bertanous". He was not the only pope to make claims of this nature, but his was probably the most blatant one.
No pope since then has refuted those kind of statements.

Go to the web site, 666man.net, and look there. The popes are all accounted for. Also, though the total right now is 680 (which we are well aware of) with Benedict XVI, that is not going to be the total even before he dies. He will change his name to a new name not used before and the current name will disappear from the count. Only the name that they have when they die counts, and that one will be the new name, thereby giving the total of 666.

Come to think of it, not sure bout Benedict as you say, Rev 17:10 indicates to me at the time of the vision John was seeing the 6th Pope king who would be JP2.
The 7th lasts a short space of time, that's Benedict.
Verse 11 of chpt 17 seems to indicate a copy of the sixth that once was, meaning JP2 clone.
Going back to Rev 17:8 also indicates he'll be a demon mascurading as a human Pope very much like JP2, if not claiming to be him.

Nowhere in literal Babylon did they use the Greek language to arrive at 666. If they had done so, we would do the same. But they counted their gods instead, so we count the gods as well. If the church-state combination were not called Babylon, then it would not need to be done this way and the Bible would probably give some other instruction on how to arrive at some number, which would likely be different than 666. But it is 666, so we count the gods. Show me that it must be different.

Where are the instructions in the Bible to use the Greek alphabet to count the name to arrive at 666? Show me where it says that Greek must be used. The Bible says to count the number of the beast. Daniel 7:17 says that beasts are kings, and Daniel 7:25 shows that kings represent lines of kings. Therefore, to count the number of the beast, count the number of the kings. Someone in the comments said that no Catholic believes that the popes are God. That probably is true. But the popes have claimed to be God. Pope Pius V said "The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth." Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Chapter XXVII, p. 218, "Cities Petrus Bertanous". He was not the only pope to make claims of this nature, but his was probably the most blatant one.
No pope since then has refuted those kind of statements.

Go to the web site, 666man.net, and look there. The popes are all accounted for. Also, though the total right now is 680 (which we are well aware of) with Benedict XVI, that is not going to be the total even before he dies. He will change his name to a new name not used before and the current name will disappear from the count. Only the name that they have when they die counts, and that one will be the new name, thereby giving the total of 666.

@atflirtech When Benedict changes his name it will vanish from Vatican record and his new name will take precedent. To read the Bible as it reads and follow as stated shows the number count. As of John Paul II the count stood at 665 and yes Benedicts name makes the count go over. But remember it says the 8th Papal name since 1798 is the Beast "yet is" and it does say he comes from the 7 Papal names. So if we were on count 665 as of John Paul then yes Benedict is the one.

My favorite thing to do in the evening is to do Bible Studies on YouTube. I have found that the most insightful & blessed of God's truth, are those given by Seventh Day Adventists. I have considered that they in their zeal for the book of Daniel, took note of what sort of man Daniel was. Well this is something that the Kings of Europe never knew. And yes the German Emperor Henry IV stood in the snow at Canossa, but some years later he got his revenge and that pope was deposed.
And popes were regularly imprisoned by angry Kings of Europe, eg Charles V in about 1516, and deported to Avignon by the Kings of France in about 1307

the world doesn end before the last pope dies.There just wont be a new pope, so somthing major will happen. why does he need to change his name? Prophecy already identifies him as the last. We cant pretend every single event we've been trained to expect to pan out in one day. I know alot of christians, both real and role players, who expect to be swept off the earth out of the blue one day, and writings clearly show that no one envisioned that. Not until the very end at least (after armagedon)

Listed are only 14 popes named Benedict. The current pope is the 16th Benedict. Which messes up your entire 666 number. I didnt count the other popes I just know the pope right now is Benedict XVI.

Their are 7 Papal name's since 1798. John saw the vison during the (one is) 6th the first five name used after 1798 were 1. Pius 2. Leo 3. Gregory 4. Benedict 5. John 6. Paul and 7. John Paul. Benedict is the pope out of order. The 8th Papal name since 1798 is the Beast returned, he is (of) Greek word orgin of the 7 Papal name's. It was general understood during reformation times the 5th and 6th trumpets were Islam. The 3rd Woe or 7th trumpet is Islam also. It will trigger the Mark of the beast. Benedict will have to make a move quickly as Islam will take over Europe soon. This prophecy was understood in 2000 then 9/11 hit. Their are no more pope's, he is 83 years old. There is Mystery Babylon and there is Ancient Babylon. Ancient Babylon counted their gods like this 1+2+3+4 all the way to 36 =666 The same princpal is applied to Mystery Babylon. Their are 7 Papal names since 1798 each name has a certain number of popes as a monarchy. Like John Paul I + II adding 1 +2= 3 Pius has 12 individual popes add 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12= 78 you do this with each of the 7 Papal name's getting a count of 665 as of the 7th Papal name John Paul II.
