Not to mention they may not have room, may not be allowed pets where they live, or can afford it. I'd rather give an irresponsible owner a toy they can turn off than a real pet they'll abandon because they didn't realize how big of a responsibility it was. After all, that's the reason so many cats and dogs are on the streets in the first place.
