At 0:45, the guy with the black base mask takes a step forward, one back, one forward, then back, that makes you wobbly, a real blow on you in that position, and you would be knocked to the ground. Every step has to match the movement/blow you are planing to make, don't just think "I'l hit him whenever I get a chanse" make up a plan, and practice what steps belong to what blow, in what position your body should be in to give your blow power. It is very important basis if you want to practice.
Hmm...a few tips. When you attack with your arms, as in holding a weapon, it is equaly important to know what you are doing with your feet. If your stance is wobbly, you will not have any strength in the blow, both of you really need to work on your feetwork, as well as how you use your stomach muscles. Remember that the strengh comes from a secure stance, and working with your legs, waist, and then the arms, not the other way around.
Although the swords are steel they are also blunt. The main body armour is coat of plate - leather outer with steel plates inside, as are the upper thighs. The legs and vanbraces ( forearms ) have the splints ( strips )on the outside.
You can definately feel a sword blow and the day after you find some curious bruises but nothing serious - however bear in mind that although the weapons are steel they are not sharp and having seen sharp weapons used i wouldn't feel as comfortable facing them. I have copped a spear to the middle which dented one of the plates - again non sharpened
quite well. By todays steel you can feel safe in plate armour. The middleaged steel was more elastic and to be easly torn apart so that is the difference between todays plates and the ones of those days. I'm also looking forward to put some my fights at youtube. The XIII century RULES!!!
thats not a fight

Nice going, but the shield is not only used to block. It is used to harrass the enemy.
Have your left foot forward, while keeping your right in the back, so you make a less of a target (so you're on your side, facing the enemy)
Great going though :P

None of this was choreographed, but this was more us having fun than trying to be competitive.
