A friend of mine told me his Rat Terrier killed a groundhog and that the groundhog was just as big as the dog. I always wondered how it was possible, now I know. People who own terriers (like me) know them to be BOTH ruthless, relentless killers AND loving companions.

@flamedrag18 The groundhog was caught off guard as this Jack Russell is quick with a lock bite and does not release.

I have seen him go after raccoon with the same technique.

Not a scratch with the groundhog fight. Although he chewed and swallowed so much hair that he acquired a giant fur ball in his gut and he could not shit!

I fixed him with about 1 -1/2 ounce of olive oil that acted as a laxative. He exploded out of both ends and was happy.

I have a girl - Sassy Britches. LOL, and is she ever. LOVE these dogs. Also work with Russell Rescue. Not any old person can handle a JRT lol, they will own an owner in a heartbeat. lmao. and GRIN while doing so. heh heh.

this breed was bred for killing. i just got bit by one of them on my face as i was playing. got 6 stiches and consider myself good with dogs. THis is not a breed if you have babies around up to 6 years old. They will bit you and bit deep.

I loved how the jrt disappeared and then all you saw was the pile bouncing around @ 1:35 - like something you see in a movie, LOL. My dog (American Bulldog) has dispensed of his first two groundhogs this week. Its startling the first time you see it, and I worried that he'd get hurt. But he seems pretty good at it - grab, shake, and its done.

Not if the owner of the dog had a gun on him. This is considered pest control. The rule states you must have the "intention to shoot the wild animal" whenever possible. In this case, the groundhog was captured by the dog in the shed, thus there was never a clear shot. Even the first time the groundhog came out, the JRT was going back and forth so fast, you wouldn't risk a shot. As long as the owner carried a fire arm with him, this would be a legal kill in Britain.

Groundhogs do terrible devastation to gardens and can dig treacherous holes. They decided that a groundhog warren was responsible for a sinkhole in a local road. Keep your Jack Russell at work, doing what he is supposed to do: rid the area of burrowing vermin!

I wonder if the pathetic little bleading heart chick holds the same blind compassion for cattle and horse who routinely break legs in pastures that are riddled with holes and setts dug by these pests? JRT's were bred to go into fox dens and run them out, not to kill groundhogs, though they do that pretty well don't they. My Jacks are tough as nails. They can take an unbelievable amount of injury and show no signs of feeling pain. A scratch on the nose from a cat will make most dogs squeal and run. Jacks are badddddd...
