@heroheroic The song is sampled from Michael's song Father Figure, but...you don't really think that him in this video, do you? (The last time I checked, George Michael wasn't black.)
OMG...and here I was thinking I was the only one missing the artists from those days!!! Thanks guys, brought back sweet memories from when music really could be felt, had a taste and a color to go with it.
@novemberrain719 -fantastic story, mate. i can totally envision that cause i was the same age then and can imagine how incredible a night that must have been.
This was a good time for music...I was a 90's brat and a grundge junkie, but I always loved PM Dawn singles...they were different, just really melodic you know?! Anyway, sweet 16's turned 34 here, holy crap I'm irrelevant! Bring back the 90's and the girl I let slip away, HOLY NOSTALGIA!
@Rhyminology101 Hey bro, I'm glad u identified w/ my comment, it seemed in the 90's we felt music on a different level; it was such an integral part of our life and experiences. I wish I cud go back and never let her go! In Crystal Baller by 3 Eye Blind, he goes "I wanna be your crystal baller / Wanna be your diamond ring / The one I never gave you..." Great stuff, give that one a listen if you never heard. Oh well, enough of my pining, happy holidays guys!
@nickynice7111 LOL, man i hear ya. They could have been maybe one of the last great innovators of pop R&B. And I especially hear ya bout what good times and memories cherished due to the 90's.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! I have always been a fan of this unique group. This is my fav by them...i think....it's hard....I love them all....never get tired of their music.
P.M. Dawn were simply without peer. Prince Be had this unnerving knack for melody, and his lyrics, delivered in that soothing, questing, aching tone, challenged the brain as well as melting the heart and affecting the tear ducts. Unquestionably a pop/rap classic, unlike the po-faced douchebags that followed.
They were pretty amazing, but this song was nothing more than a Michael Cretu knockoff. Listen to the stuff that he did when he recorded as Enigma in 1990 with his wife Sandra Cretu - this just sounds like "Sadness" with an urban twist.
1993 - Senior year of high school, 17 years old, Grad-Nite was @ Disney Land with a bunch of other L.A. area schools, they closed down to the general public @ 9pm then reopened at 11pm till 6am. Bunch of HS kids running around Disney Land all nite and we got to see PM Dawn perform near Space Mountain in tomorrow land, This was my jam! I remember dancing to this song having the best time trying to talk to this girl Megan. We ended up at Tarzans tree house for awhile later ;) Best times!
@novemberrain719 Hahaa...I can picture your story in my head brotha, this was a song that always involved romancing a girl; Us 90's brats always took something from music, it actually meant something to us, the words and the way the melody invoked a special mod!... I wish to god I never let her go! Be well bro!
@mitchikaboola Explains why I love them so much, I never really thought about that lol. Tears for Fears is pretty much my fav band, I love George Michael (Father Figure used as a sample here), and I love PM Dawn.
I've told this to Doc and Prince Be before..I was afraid to open my "the bliss album?" cassette, because I knew I'd spend spring and summer of 93 locked in my room in deep thought because of it. I hope Prince Be gets better. I know this sounds selfish, but I want more from them. This is clearly so much more than just a "hit" from the 90's.
Love that this vidoe has classic hip hop images and he's wearing lace over his eyes......show security and confidence in his originality....like prince.....its HOT really.
@WilliamYoung74 as soon as he gets better i am his youngest child Mia:) and i just had to reply i love all the comments i read about my dad!! thanku!! ill be sure to tell him what u said:)
"Looking Through Patient Eyes" is my favorite song of all time. Listening to it takes me back to when I was ten and my aunt used to work for Kinkos in East Lansing. She used to take my sister and I to East Lansing quite a bit and I remember hearing this song on the radio because it was pretty popular back then.
Cathy Dennis? Is she the woman in the veil (or at least the voice)?? The chick who sang "Touch Me All Night Long"? I never knew and I grew up in the 90s!
Aaahhhhh! It´s with stunningly talented and beautiful english singer Cathy Dennis who had many hits on both sides of the Atlantic in the early 90´s and has written "Can´t Get You Out Of My Head" for Kylie Minogue and "Toxic" for Britney Spears but is way better herself!
Love this! Sublime lyrics from Pm Dawn mixed with a legendary George Michael sample topped off with some great back up vocals from Miss Cathy Dennis x
okay so we all know that meaningful, poetic lyrics are the best form of song. But when a black man starts rapping like Shakespeare that's crossing the line
it good to see someone do a remix of a song and not use F*%K, Bitch, whore. I miss the days when music included thought provoking and meaningful lyrics. I use to listen to this cd (Yes no ipods) over and over. The greatest generation will always have it best.
@Martingwolf I hear ya. It seems like right after this everything got really foul. I cant really see anything even coming out like this nowadays. As a child of the 90s I saw it happen but I guess I didnt realize what was going on. Things are so much more crude nowadays and I wonder why that is, and where things changed?
@heidilally DJ Minute Mix left the group in the early 2000's and was replaced by Doc. G, who is a cousin of them. Also, Prince Be, who has had a lifelong struggle with obesity and diabetes, has suffered two strokes and had to get his paralyzed foot amputated.
I remember seeing the film clip for this song when it came out and I also bought it on 100% Hits Volume 8 but until recently I never suspected that Cathy Dennis was featured. I miss the days when Miss Dennis was a singer. :)
