yumm yumm this vid just made me hungary and why didn't you give your dog some he looked hungry too! lol Def going to try it, Nettles and Pigeon breast.... humm awesome!
Sorry better question would be to ask "Why" you would want to eat a pigeon... Rats of the sky... They carry so many disease and are down right nasty. I eat many things I am not timid but Pigeons I'll pass.
I've tried looking it up and people say that city pigeons are edible but they should not be your entire diet. So can I eat a city pigeon once in a blue moon since you know, times are tough? If not anything else that is common in the city of Las Vegas? I've walked around in the actual desert parts some and sometimes see lizards and rodents. But they are fairly small. Also, what else should you use to improvise as a cooking plate? Since tin cans aren't a common find in the middle of nowhere.
@ITReviewer I could also pick up some spare underwear while I'm there. I hate it when you find yourself in the middle of nowhere and when you escape and all of the world cheers for your miracle... That's when you realize you weren't wearing any pants.

theres alot of morning doves in vt where i am and shure enough there a game bird here. is there any health risks in eating them greater than in a wild turkey on partrige because i eat those all the time. i was just wondering if doves have any parasites or bactearias i should worry about. my spelling sucks but u get te point
@infiernoboy1 Yes you should drink your own piss it will make you smarter if you do, try sharing it with your friends too so it will help them as well.
@DragonFalls141 there are many different pieces on the bird you could eat, anything that is meat or what looks like meat is eatible, it might not taste that well but it will provide you with what you need to survive, but as they said before the bird is very small and harvesting more then the breast meat would be difficult, best to get more then one if your really hungry.
for those wondering why he's wasting the rest of the bird, he's eating the best part cause it's tasty, not because he's surviving. good video. made me hungry. only thing tho, the coffee can fry pan and stove are too heavy and bulky.
Looking at the scenario, if I were in a survival situation trying to survive in a world run over with anarchy, hiding and scraping my existance in the urban ruins or out in the woods, I really wouldn't care much about the lead content of the bird. Cooking it in the first place would be a huge luxury. And yes, I would feed my dog too. He would be my absolute best friend in that situation.
It would be nice, maybe in another video, to see you share even a small portion with your dog. If it came to where I only had two crackers to eat...my pup's gettin one of them. Just an idea for ya. :-)
@TheDumnAs bear grylls is a fake...iv seen him teach stuff that is gona risk someones life...this guys and ray mears are great, but each to there own i guess
Any wild pigeon who has lived a healthy life would be fine to eat, ie wood pigeon has not sat half its life sucking car fumes etc down it. Try it if you die let me know.
City pigeons like city people have far higher levels of lead in their blood, I would advise against it unless you have no alternative, Ducks on lakes should be fine.
@Danielmorgan1976 danny what i think happend is the ball hit a branch on the way up then hit the bird. You can see the bird fall just before the fist clip stopped. Have a look mate all the best.
Will Rubbing alcohol work as fuel for the losenger tin? Whats the best / easiest to find denatured alcohol?. Im not even really sure what that is. Haha all the alcohol in my house is "natured" and about 80proof which goes well with ice n cola. I enjoy the vids thanks for posting. Very cool.
I found your video to be interesting, but when you use the sticks to pick it up, I was like damnnnnnn! How dumb am I , I would have never thought about doing that! Thanks yo! I sub to you also, never know when I may be stranded!
In hunting grouse I have in the past peeled back the feathers on the breast.. Then grabbed the base of the breast with my thumb and lifted toward the birds head.
It will snap the breast away from the bird.
No need to gut it and you have all the meat.
I can see you had a limited cooking area so it was necessary to cut it but if you didnt the whole breast would have been a clean and easy choice. Give it a try sometime.
What's the hygeine concerns with urban birds? Aren't they supposed to be "rats with wings"? eat vs. being sick is always a concern...birds are a hazy topic.
Is it dangerous to have the altoids can right on the ground, or does the fire pretty much stay in the can? Incredible video by the way :) I don't think I'd have the guts to cut a little bird open... unless it was a survival situation... but then, I am pretty much just a wanna be survivor. Thanks for posting this!
what were you using for fuel in what to me looked like an altoid tin? And I kinda feel bad for the dog he started wagging his tail at the end like Oh boy am I getting some bites too? Very interesting though. I liked this video a lot
@MrEddrox As an ex soldier you use the tommy cooker/ hexy burner upside down on grass and mud as the prong prevent it slipping arounf when you put you pot on top.
@maladettagirl For gods sake man, if its fiberglass dont burn it! The fumes are really nasty. From wikipedia ' Fibreglass resin fumes are an irritant to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Inhalation of vapors and/or absorption through the skin may cause liver and kidney damage and could possibly lead to cancer'
A little harsh on MrEddrox, I think he was just saying... Loved the video, very interesting, I look forward to watching more. I wish I had your skills...
I like that mini cooker, I saw it in the last video, you must be partial to it. Seems lightweight enough, mine requires fire-starting and some setup. how long will that burn for? It use methanol?
@uncoolkid2 Yes but I wouldn't.Though they are all edible, most of the birds we see, especially in cities, have being exposed to, and concentrate, pollutants that cooking does not remove.I would also worry about parasites that all these animals have. With good cooking practices, it is rarely an issue, however, the man in this video cross-contaminated his knife on many occasions, making a significant risk of parasite infection. Great care has to be taken with wild meat, especially that of birds
What do you think about these new cans that have plastic liners? I have heard that when this stuff is heated it turns into Estrogen hormonal drugs and leaches into the food or water heated in it.
Good idea, i'll have to dust of my old black widow gat and get hunting , how long would I have to cook the nettles for so I don' t end up with a big fat tongue, also what are you using for fuel on the hexi stove?
